Despite being a spiritual adviser himself, Reverend Daniel Cooper is trying to find his proper place in the world. In his quest, he accepts a job as the minister of the Hope Island Community Church despite not knowing before his arrival anything about the job, the island, or its residents and potential congregation. The church itself has been closed for thirty years prior to his arrival. In addition to finding where he wants to go, he is also running away from his past, with which he will eventually have to deal before he can truly understand what he wants in life. Part of what he wants may include the friendship and love of even the staunchest of atheists.
