Hockey Match on the Ice (1897)
Edison short runs a brief 25-seconds but we get a few interesting things. Back in 1897 it was rather common for a studio to just set up a camera and let it film whatever went in front of it. The film shows a group of men on a frozen pond playing hockey but much of the footage happens off screen. Even with the limited action inside the frame we still get to see something interesting things. As a fan of early cinema I enjoy seeing how things looked all these years ago so it was fascinating seeing the old skates and the outfits being worn. It's also interesting to see the barn in the background and it's also obvious that the men on screen know they're filming and you can tell as they often look up at the camera.
