United we stand. Divided we fall.
As Marvel fans know all too well, that’s the evocative tagline that was attached to Captain America: Civil War back in 2016, when Joe and Anthony Russo placed Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on a collision course with one another. When the dust settled from Marvel’s superhero event movie, and the Winter Soldier was granted asylum in Wakanda, it looked certain that Steve Rogers was ready to walk away from his iconic shield and essentially drop the Captain America title for good. But there’s more to this arc than meets the eye.
McU Exchange has compiled a report claiming that Avengers: Infinity War will see Chris Evans’ icon make the transition to Nomad, a character that gained popularity through Dimension Z from Rick Remender’s recent run. In the comics, Steve Rogers turns his back on a corrupted U.S. government, and decides...

If there’s one thing for certain about the foreign-language film category at the Oscars it’s that the Academy sure has a soft spot for films about World War II. Just this year alone there are three movies on the Academy’s shortlist that are set during that very tumultuous time — Denmark’s Land of Mine, Norway’s The King’s Choice, and Russia’s Paradise. How often has the Academy nominated or given the win to films based specifically during the World War II era?
According to Scott Feinberg of The Hollywood Reporter, the best foreign-language film Oscar race is shaping up to potentially only feature one of these World War II-set movies in the official nominations. So far Land of Mine is listed as a frontrunner along with Germany’s Toni Erdmann, Iran’s The Salesman,...

The greatest thing about the best foreign-language film category is the recognition of works from all around the world. Throughout the years, movies made outside the United States of America have gotten the recognition they deserve thanks to the implementation of this specific award. With the 2017 Oscars right around the corner, let’s take a look back at the distribution of nominations and wins across the seven continents that make up this big world we inhabit.
This year’s best foreign-language film contenders are: Toni Erdmann (Germany), The Salesman (Iran), Land of Mine (Denmark), A Man Called Ove (Sweden), Paradise (Russia), The King’s Choice (Norway), My Life as a Zucchini (Switzerland), It’s Only the End of the World (Canada), and Tanna (Australia). This site’s namesake, The Hollywood’s Scott Feinberg, lists the first five of those as frontrunners and the other four as major threats.

Films are being released in clusters lately each Tuesday and September 13th continues that trend with Captain America: Civil War, one of many sequels released that day. It’s safe to say this was the most anticipated new release of the week. It was released on Steelbook at Best Buy, which was an exclusive. It also had a 3D version with a beautiful slip cover and a standard version without a slip cover which I believe was very weak for the price; it had no digital HD to go with no slip cover for $19.99.
The Synopsis
After an incident that kills innocent civilians, political interference in the Avengers’ activities causes a rift between former allies Captain America and Iron Man.
The Review
I saw Captain America: Civil War twice in theaters; once in IMAX 3D on opening night and a second time which was a standard showing later that weekend.

Effectively transposing “12 Angry Men” into the most intense PTA meeting of all time, Jan Hřebejk’s “The Teacher” is a sardonic, richly seriocomic morality play that uses a delicate touch to explore why communism never seems to work out in the long run. Set in Czechoslovakia circa 1983 — when the country was just beginning to peek out from behind the Iron Curtain — and loosely inspired by true events, this crowd-pleasing standout from the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival’s competition slate leverages its hyper-specific setting to convey a universal story of fear and power. It’s a lot more fun than it sounds.

A copy of the Captain America: Civil War Blu-ray was on display at the Disney Holiday Preview event held in New York City today, and thanks to Stitch Kingdom, we have a breakdown of the special features which will be included on the disc. Sadly, there's no sign of a Spider-Man centric featurette, but given Marvel's habit of not making much effort with this sort of thing, that's not too surprising. On the plus side, we're getting an audio commentary from the movie's writers and directors and a new look at Doctor Strange! Expect more details on those deleted scenes nearer the time of release. In its 2015 edition, attendees in Los Angeles will have an opportunity to personally meet the talented Czech director Andrea Sedláčková, who will introduce to the audience her recent drama “Fair Play” (2014, 100 minutes), a story of a nineteen year-old sprinter aiming for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984, who gets involved with the state-controlled doping program. Sedláčková´s latest feature was selected as the Czech entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 87th Academy Awards and received 13 nominations for the Czech Academy Awards (Czech Lions).
The program will further include daring dark comedy “Krásno" (dir. Ondřej Sokol, 2014, 119 min.) with an acclaimed performance by internationally renowned Czech actor Karel Roden and the politically-surged film “Burning Bush," directed by Academy Award-nominated director Agnieszka Holland. The festival will continue with the directorial debut of Jiří Mádl’s “To See the Sea” (Pojedeme k moři, 2014, 90 min.) with a 10 year old lead, who is investigating the curious behavior of his father.
Audiences will also have the opportunity to enjoy an explosive conversational comedy “Icing” (Zakázané uvolnění, 2014, 77 min.) by recognized director Jan Hřebejk (Oscar nominated “Divided We Fall”).
This selection of influential and emerging voices in Czech cinema will be presented at: Cedar Rapids (Ia), Chicago (Il), Cleveland (Oh), Dallas (TX), Denver (Co), Houston (TX), Los Angeles (CA), Little Rock (Ar), Minneapolis (Mn), New York City (NY), Oklahoma City (Ok), Phoenix (Az), Portland (Or), San Juan (PR), San Francisco (CA), Seattle (Wa), Salt Lake City (Ut), Washington, D.C. (D.C.),
The festival in Los Angeles is organized by the Czech Consulate in La and Czech Centers in cooperation with USC School of Cinematic Arts with the generous support of Milk & Honey Films, Prague Studios, Czech Tourism, with local contributions from the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles (Svu-la) and Elma (European Language and Movies in America).

The nine foreign-language films shortlisted by the Academy hail from three continents: South America, Europe and Africa. From South America, Argentina’s Wild Tales and Venezuela’s The Liberator made the list. From Africa, Mauritania’s Timbuktu did as well. From Europe, Estonia’s Tangerines, Georgia’s Corn Island, the Netherlands’ Accused, Poland’s Ida, Russia’s Leviathan and Sweden’s Force Majeure all made the top nine.
This year could mark the first Oscar nomination for Estonia, Georgia, Mauritania (whose film was the country’s first Oscar-submitted film) and Venezuela. Argentina, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden have each received two Oscar nominations in the past 14 years. Of those four countries, Argentina is the only one to win an Oscar, which it did in 2010 for The Secret in Their Eyes. If Russia lands a nomination, it will be the country’s second in the 21st century.

The 48th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Kviff) came to a close in the Bohemian town of the same name this weekend, with Hungarian WWII tale "Le Grand Cahier," based on the bestseller "The Notebook" from Agota Kristof, taking the Crystal Globe for best feature. The competition jury, presided over by Polish director Agnieszka Holland ("In Darkness," episodes of "Treme," "The Wire" and "The Killing") and also including Tribeca Artistic Director Frédéric Boyer, awarded Ben Wheatley's black-and-white oddity "A Field in England" their Special Jury Prize, while U.S. indie "Bluebird" from Lance Edmands, which premiered at Tribeca, walked away with a shared Best Actress award. Local arthouse veteran Jan Hrebejk, whose "Divided We Fall" was nominated for an Oscar in 2001, won Best Director for his latest film, "Honeymoon," which stars his regular lead actress Anna Geislerova as a bride who discovers an ugly episode in...

I am a movie buff. I follow shows like AMC’s Movie Talk via YouTube on a daily basis. I also check IMDb every day as well. Let’s face it in the culture of cinema; one of the most talked about things I’ve read about this year is a Justice League movie. This, of course, would be Warner Bros’ answer to last year’s mega-hit The Avengers. This film by itself went on to gross $623 million domestically and become the highest grossing film of the year.
We have to be honest, myself included, Warner Bros has not made the best films when it comes to their DC properties. Trying to bring Catwoman, Green Lantern and Jonah Hex in stand-alone films, have all failed in the process of establishment. Catwoman took $100 million to make but only ended up making 40% of its budget back in its total box office run.

As "Divided We Fall" continues, this Wednesday's Ultimate Comics Ultimates #15 will see Captain America take on a very different role in the Ultimate Universe. He becomes President of the United States. According to The Washington Post, Steve Rogers is a non-campaigning write-in patriot who wins by a landslide and agrees to answer, "the people's call." This is certainly a first for comics (although the DC Universe did once see the villainous Lex Luthor become President) and series writer Sam Humphries had this to say about the sure to be controversial decision. "We wanted to dramatize an extreme version of what we see in America today. In the face of all [this] divisiveness, what do we have in common? What does it mean to be an American? What can we agree on? And what makes America the place that it is?" In the storyline, the United States is in chaos as San...

Marvel has released an exclusive first look at the upcoming cover for Ultimate Comics Ultimates #19 via Newsarama, revealing that the Iron Patriot will soon be heading to the Ultimate Universe. Accompanied by the tagline, “Iron Patriot Wants You To Help Rebuild America”, the cover art is illustrated by the talented Adi Granov and shows off the sleek new design of the armor previously worn by Norman Osborn during the “Dark Avengers” storyline.
The new Ultimate Iron Patriot will be introduced in the “Divided We Fall” storyline in December and speculation has already begun as to who might be wearing the armor when he (or she) arrives. Many fans on the web have suggested that Steve Rogers (Captain America) may be the next individual to don the patriotic suit.
Who do you think will be wearing the Iron Patriot armor when Ultimate Comics Ultimates arrives on story shelves in December? Let us know below!

As a part of the currently ongoing "Divided We Fall" storyline, 'Iron Patriot' will make his Ultimate Universe debut in December's Ultimate Comics Ultimates #19. Newsarama revealed the cover by Adi Granov a little earlier today, although there's currently no word on who will don the armour. It's already being speculated that it will be Captain America, and that definitely wouldn't be a bad thing considering the awful costume they currently have him wearing. In the regular Marvel Universe, Norman Osborn (a.k.a. the Green Goblin) wore the suit during his "Dark Reign". Who do you think is behind the mask? "Iron Patriot Wants You To Help Rebuild America."...

July saw the start of the summer event of Marvel’s Ultimate Comics imprint ‘Divided We Fall’, the first cross over of the ‘new new’ Ultimate line, and Ultimate Comics Spider-Man provides us with part three of the story.
Before the issue kicks off, we get a recap of just how bad a kicking Earth has been getting in these books. Captain America has returned from his self imposed exile to find his country without true authority since Congress was turned into a smoking crater, leading to some states leaving the Union. Elsewhere, most of Europe has been obliterated, the Southeast Asian Republic has assembled a country’s worth of super soldiers who can also make use of Pym Particles (think tons of giant Captain Americas and you’re close), and what is left of America is under threat from not the brothers Zorn and Xorn...

Dear Steve Hafner:
Let me first say that Kayak.com is bookmarked on my computer. I think it's the best travel site out there. I've used Kayak for every single flight I have ever booked since 2005. And I travel a lot -- at least 50,000 miles a year. You provide a tool I use all the time.
So when I read your blog post defending your company's decision not to renew advertising of All-American Muslimon TLC, I was furious. I was troubled when anti-Muslim groups like the Florida Family Association (Ffa) began to target the show for depicting Muslim Americans as regular people. But I didn't think it would actually work! First Lowe's withdraws support. Now Kayak, one of my favorite companies?!
Now I know that you handled the matter differently from Lowe's, who openly acknowledged that it gave in to pressure. Instead, you stated that your decision, which came three days after Lowe's,...

Zurich -- "Kawasaki's Rose," Jan Hrebejk's political drama examining the misdeeds of the Czechoslovakian secret police and the legacy of Communist dictatorship, is the Czech Oscar entry for 2011.
Director Jan Hrebejk was nominated for an Oscar in 2001 for his Nazi-era comedy/thriller "Divided We Fall." "Kawasaki's Rose" is set mostly in the present day. It tells the story of Pavel, a famed dissent set to receive a national honor for his resistance to the Communist regime. But it emerges that Pavel has a dark secret: he once collaborated with the secret police. Some critics have compared "Kawasaki's Rose" to Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's Oscar-winner "The Lives of Others."
Menemsha Films has U.S. rights to "Kawasaki's Rose" and will bow the film Nov. 24 at New York's Film Forum.
