Vera Straightman misses her opportunity to appear as a contestant on Sale of the Century when she is abducted by Valkyries and taken to the newly nationalized Valhalla, which leads to industrial action by the dead Norse warriors. Norman Straightman attends a job interview in triplicate and is inducted into the civil service. The episode ends with a parody of Happy Days.

After the funeral of the Irish comedian, Pope Clement takes over his TV show. Norman Straightman is called up to appear on the South Bank Show to talk about Contemporary English Literature. In preparation, Vera Straightman visits a book shop which has only one book, while Norman attends an appointment with the nosetician for a sinus check-up. Esther Rantzen encourages members of the public to saw their legs off and offers consumer advice to Adolf Hitler.
