Howdy wrestling fans, and a big thanks to Aaron Oster and James Montgomery for tending to the homestead while I was off for last week's Raw and Payback spectacles. And I have no idea why I'm aping cowboy parlance, or if that's even appropriate while recapping a show that went down in Omaha. But in the interest of corralling my thoughts, let's look toward Extreme Rules.

Less encouraging is that the go-home show did little to intensify most of the current beefs, nor drum up much more intrigue for matches without any hardware at stake.

For the WWE, last night's Raw represented some kind of fresh start in their cyclical programming, as several superstars either went back to the drawing board and/or returned from hiatus, ready to spark new rivalries and set aside any residual SummerSlam rancor. As always, in the interest of providing a service to you readers,...

Raise your hands if, like me, you assumed Randy Orton would cost Seth Rollins his win against Dean Ambrose in the Hell in a Cell main event, putting their feud front and center, while Bray Wyatt would return from retooling on Raw and pick a fight with Ambrose.
Raise the other one if, when Wyatt ran interference during Ambrose and Rollins' disappointing main-event blow-off, you said to yourself, "Much as I love nearly being right, and an enjoy an homage to Princess Leia's Star Wars hologram, what was accomplished here...

There have been better go-home shows. But then again, an episode of SmackDown still stands between us and Hell in a Cell, so all may not be lost. The folks in Kansas City did their darndest to put a promo-heavy Raw on their shoulders with equal parts passionate interaction and irksome subversion – poor Randy Orton – and the minority of talent who squared off in the ring (i.e. Usos, Mizdow, Gold/Stardust, Ziggler/Cesaro, etc.) ran circles around the night's plodding microphone work.

As was made very clear by Big Show's awkward references to "Hot Atlanta" and Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes' ornamental inclusion, last night's Raw did indeed take place in the Peach State's proud capital city. And convenient as it would be to suggest all three hours were the pits, that would be a fuzzy recounting of events.
For those who like their action between the bells, Raw offered its most filler-free installment in recent memory, buoyed by unexpected booking swerves that kept anticipation high from opening bout to main event.

For the first time since March, Monday Night Raw made its triumphant return to Brooklyn's Barclays Center. It's a journey that, going by surprise guest The Rock's Gps, necessitates touching down on the corner of Jabroni Drive and Cheap-Pop Avenue and trekking across all four of NYC's other boroughs before finally arriving in Bk to generate some heat and debut a vintage Mike Tyson varsity jacket.
Or, if you're the rest of us, it meant plopping down on a chaise lounge and plodding through three-plus hours of largely Herculean silliness.

From the sounds of swelling Cm Punk chants to the sight of what might be Justin Gabriel in furry-fetish attire hand-in-hand with former presidential candidate Jesse Jackson, last night's Raw did not disappoint.
Unless, of course, you're still smarting over Roman Reigns' momentum-killing hernia surgery, skeptical that Rosa Mendes can help carry the Divas division or yearn for a time when in-ring antics were more provocative than booby-trapped briefcases.

‘7 Assassins‘ is the latest adventure action movie directed by the veteran and more-than-prolific (credited as an actor in more than 225 films) Eric Tsang. Maybe you don’t know him for his work directing ‘Armour of God’ alongside Jackie Chan, because it wasn’t credited, but there you go. One might think that having participated in an average of almost 6 movies a year since the early 70’s, knowing how to make a good movie has no merit, as anyone could get the hang of film-making with so much experience, but that isn’t necessarily true; if it were, this wouldn’t be as popular a phrase as it is: ‘I prefer his/her early work‘. I bet you’ve used it more than once. I know I’ve done. And it’s no wonder: each year films get faster, but brains get slower; new technologies sprout every other day, but new neurons are evermore scarce…...

Masters of Sex Season 2, Episode 10: “Below the Belt”
Written by Bathsheba Doran and Eileen Myers
Directed by Adam Arkin
Airs Sundays at 10pm (Et) on Showtime
“Everyone has their own version of everything that’s ever happened.” There’s more weight and truth to these words Ann Dowd speaks than in any of the many speeches she got to deliver in The Leftovers. It’s an easy sentence to seize upon as a master key to interpreting the ideas in “Below the Belt,” but “easy” doesn’t mean “unintelligent.” It’s there from the opening scene, in which Gini confesses to her psychiatrist that she’s set all their sessions up as a charade to try to help Barb. It’s in the fundamental misunderstanding between Langham and Flo about the nature of their new sexual relationship. And of course, it’s at the heart of the episode’s biggest conflict,...

When Bill and Virginia meet a new test subject for their study, they start by asking about their sexual history. Much of this second season of Masters of Sex has inquired about Bill’s sexual history, and what may have caused his impotence. The last few episodes, which have centered on the prickly relationship between the fertility doctor and his estranged plastic surgeon and ex-alcoholic brother Frank, bring this messy past life to the fore. Aided by scene-stealing work from Christian Borle, the series has ended its last two episodes on prolonged arguments between the Masters brothers. It is a major highlight in what has been a good yet uneven second season, in terms of both tone and quality.
That wavering tone and quality continues to be an issue, but with such angry and affecting turns each week, Masters of Sex remains some of the best drama on cable television.

A review of tonight's "Masters of Sex" coming up just as soon as I do pelvic exams with a miner's lamp stuck to my forehead... "This is the way back! I'm broken, and you're the one — you're the only one — who can fix me." -Bill For much of his life, Bill Masters has defined himself by his relationship to his abusive father, who always wanted Bill to be more of a man, and the ways in which Bill tried to forge his own brand of masculinity by not fighting back and not crying. Bill has turned himself into a man he feels proud of, but in the last few years of the show's timeline, his split from Virginia has caused him to lose one of the most fundamental aspects of being a man, whether you're a neanderthal like Francis Masters Sr. or a sex researcher like Bill. "Below the Belt" is,...
