Not half as bad as I had thought.

Can't really say that this is a great movie or a good comedy even but I do see it as a quite good one for a young crowd.

It's a quite simplistic movie but it's also a fun one to watch. Nothing really stands out but it basically serves its purpose well enough. Well, almost, fore I felt that the movie perhaps could had been more edgy to make some of its points come across as more powerful and effective.

It seems to me that the movie is trying to be a bit of an Italian social commentary on (illegal) immigration and the way Italians deal with it, as well as a commentary on today's Italian youth and how they get looked upon- and treated by the older generation. This all only seems to play somewhat of a role in the first half of the movie but after that gets abounded pretty quickly and the movie turns into a far more simplistic one, without any deeper meaning to anything. In that regard this movie does also feel like a quite pointless one.

It's already a bad idea to have Dracula walk around in modern times. This has never really worked out that well in any movie. This movie does feature some interesting ideas in it and it can somewhat be seen as a modern retelling and take on the Dracula story, with of course a less serious approach to it all. So it's not the worst movie at what it is trying to do but just don't expect a real Dracula or vampire movie when you're going to watch this one, since it actually has very little to do with anything horror related.

Still I liked the modern style of this movie and the entire way it got shot. It's a sort of new wave of film-making, that happens all across Europe, that gets aimed completely toward the younger generations.

The acting is quite poor in parts and it seems to me that most of the cast consists out of non-professional actors but the movie does still feature some good and likable characters in it, so the acting really is no big complaint, since the characters still work out well enough.

Can't say that this is a great movie by any means but it manages to serve its purpose- and reach its targeted audience well enough with its approach.

Kind of funny if you're in the right mood

Basically a light hearted comedy with some social commentary and satire thrown in. While I think it was mostly aimed at a younger audience, it could be fun for anyone in the mood for something different.

Not the comic!

Warning: Spoilers
You know who you should never let in? Vampires.

Count Dracula is sick of Romanian blood, so he leaves for a country that he knows from television: Italy.

That's a lot different than the comic book this was based on, Zora the Vampire, in which 19th-century aristocrat Zora Pabst becomes possessed by the spirit of Dracula and suddenly has a lust for blood and, well, sex. Instead of Catherine Deneuve, who inspired the look of Zora in the comic books, here she's played by Micaela Ramazzotti and is an artist who is not all that upset about Dracula being in love with her.

The Manetti Bros. Directed this and I've seen it described as an "unfortunate experience" for them. Luckily, it seems like they've recovered quite well, as they've made movies in the science fiction, musical comedy and horror genres. Their latest movie is a new version of Diabolik, which I'm looking forward to seeing.

The movie Zora is a strange thing. Imagine if someone made Barbarella as a children's film. But hey - I'm just excited to see any new horror movies made in Italy.

A good effort...
sgurgolo30 April 2001
A good effort to represent Italian Hip-Hop and the Roman underground in a different way. Manetti Bros tried to "keep it real", while describing the adventures of an old fashioned Count Dracula. The vampire will learn how hard life can be when you're discriminated twice: as a vampire and as a stranger. But he will also fall in love with a suburban graffiti writer named Zora. Will the rapper Mc Zombie and his fellow Lama be able to stop the curse of the vampire, before it reaches their friend Zora?

In the cast literally shines Lele Vannoli as the vampire's servant, Ivo Garrani playing the role of the mad priest works well, and the rappers Chef Ragoo and GMax work well as a kind of nowadays Abbott and Costello. The cast is also full of musicians from the Italian scene like James Senese from Napoli Centrale, Tormento from Sottotono and lots more. The soundtrack is also full of good hip hop beats you can move the head to while watching the movie. Definitely worth watching.
