Annoying film crew
alex-fry25 August 2009
Part of this turkey of a movie was filmed two houses down from me. I came out to go to work and there were movie people blocking the entire street, not to mention hogging up my lawn. Looks like you all wasted your time and money filming this movie. Boring movie with bad actors. The girl's easy on the eyes, though, but apparently she now relies on her Backstreet Boy husband for life support now. Who can he count on now that he's getting old?

Note: the movie "Sydney White" (and the Seven Dorks) was filmed around the corner from my new house, but at least that was several blocks away so I don't have any gripes on that. Word on the street is that that was much better.

It's fairly good.
always_ktbspa9 August 2005
Like most, I saw this movie for the 10 second glimpses of Backstreet Boys, and because it stars Brian's wife. Overall, the acting was so-so, but basically everyone in it is unknown. The plot line is cute, but a little cliché, and is definitely more geared towards girls. I actually completely forgot about this movie until I just saw it on IMDb, so obviously it wasn't great enough to leave an impression. It will probably make you laugh. It's definitely a rent it...not buy it, but I would recommend it to Backstreet fans. Though the boys have very small parts, and they're not perfect, its cute. I'd give it a nine out of ten, because it keeps your interest, but doens't make you want to watch it again.

G*dawful

Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILER WARNING**** I do give away some plot points, but trust me when I say you will see them comin' down Broadway. No real surprises in this film... other than the fact that someone financed it. Now it begins:

OH. MY. GOD. I CANNOT believe I sat through this entire movie. It was painfully awkward from opening credit to closing copyright. It felt like some middle-schooler penned the screenplay and then suckered all of his or her family members to go through these horrible, horrible motions. The dialogue was as stilted as the actors, who seemed to be overgrown eighth-graders in a terrible one-act play that ought not be. I remain convinced that any decent commentary for this film comes from a crew's family member or agent. And let me say again I give this critique based on the product... I do not mean to personally insult anyone. Obviously if you pull off a movie at all you have some creative talent... in this case I just think it went to waste.

Was there a plot?? I don't remember seeing one. The story was poorly explained, poorly acted, poorly shot. The mother suffered from some vague "illness" that apparently had no visible manifestations. We never saw any reasoning behind why the main actress ever agreed to marry her selfish and philandering fiance, whose unfaithful actions were just as vaguely spelled out as the mother's illness. Was he a male gigolo traveling from town to town for "tricks," or did he manage to carry on three separate affairs on top of juggling a career (he did some sort of 'work' that required an 'office' and a 'briefcase;' that's about all we know.. wait.. maybe he was a lawyer and that fact came to light during one of the moments where I willed myself unconscious) and a fiancee? The sound quality was deplorable, often rendering the dreadful dialogue inaudible (which we soon realized was a blessing, in fact). The advertised appearances by two Backstreet Boys totaled about four minutes of on-screen time and one or two lines each. False advertising to say the least.. but maybe they had signed their names to the contract before reading the script, and in an effort to minimize the career damage, tried to contribute as little on-screen content as possible. It helps me sleep a little better to tell myself they had to realize how bad this film was... and yet, methinks they didn't.

I don't know if major lack of character development or bad editing is to blame, but this is hands-down THE worst movie I have ever had the misfortune of enduring (and that INCLUDES "Beaches" and the unfortunate "Who's Harry Crumb?") When the male nurse solemnly walked into the mother's funeral with a RIBBON-WRAPPED WATERMELON (because we saw ONE scene where the nurse "smuggled" watermelon to the mother in the hospital.... is fruit really contraband in a HOSPITAL!?!) I actually fell off the couch laughing, screaming, howling in humorous horror. Good grief... my friends and I REWOUND that scene just to make sure we hadn't hallucinated in our sorry celluloid-induced stupor. I don't think hysterical comedy was the director's objective. I would call the entire cast bad actors, but I must admit they did a darn good job of keeping a straight face during that embarrassingly maudlin scene. Now, I am sure everyone involved is talented, and God knows I love the Backstreet Boys, but I simply cannot in good conscience allow another human being to subject himself or herself to this cinematic sewage.

I am not suggesting we boycott any Backstreet enterprises... I still love "da boyz" and think it's theoretically very sweet that Brian Littrell helped orchestrate this monster, even helping write "Olive Juice's" theme song, so his actress wife could have a vehicle to spice up her career. Unfortunately, this whole enterprise was like some couple's inside joke or pet name thing that was never meant to be made public. Geez. Very few people can pull off an "LA Story" type of storyline... and even Steve Martin barely did it.

On one hand, I feel bad saying mean things about people who no doubt worked very hard and long at bringing this creation to fruition. On the other hand, I'll never get back those two hours of my life. Gone. Poof. My two friends who suffered through this film with me will no doubt echo my sentiments. Lord help us all... there are other movies that got TURNED DOWN so this one could be made!!! Of COURSE it didn't get national release.. I'm surprised it made it out of anyone's living room. The over-ambitious director tried to cram so MUCH 'symbolism,' 'comedy,' and 'witty banter' into what felt like little more than a bad, bad after-school special... except the only moral in this case is "Don't see Olive Juice!" EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Horrendous!

This movie was bad!! LKParkers comments summed it up well! I know why this movie never made it to the big screen??? Because it was awful!!! I can't believe I wasted $3.50 at the video store to see a couple of Backstreet Boys. As much as I think Brian Littrell has a lot of potential (he is very funny and charming in interviews)...., His lines strained. The whole movie is like that. It's almost like we are watching the making of the movie and the actors just read their script for the first time and haven't corrected any mistakes. It seemed like lines were forgotten and somewhere behind the camera the director etc... is yelling out the lines for the actors to remember. Nothing is consistant and the plot doesn't move smoothly. Some scenes don't seem to fit either. Leighanne Littrell left much to be desired. I don't think this role suited her.

LAME, LAME, LAME, in other words, LAME!
oldsenior18 June 2005
This movie is just awful. I can just imagine the "behind the scenes" dialogue while making this picture: "this is going to be such a cute movie, the story is so cute, the dialogue is so cute, the actors are so cute, the acting is so cute, no the acting is so dynamic, it's going to be such a hit with the audience: being so piquant and lovely, and yet so comical........" I don't know too much about the Back Street Boys, except that they're famous, now I realize they must have made some money and thought they were going to make a classic film, they were wrong, money doesn't always translate into good taste. The only thing going right for this movie, in spite of the script was the actor that played the lawyer/fiancé, otherwise the acting was non existent. The actor who played the lead was a little too old to be playing this type of "dork", he elicited no charm what-so ever, which was supposed to be the desired aim I suppose. An example being the sequence at the girls house after the first date to the bar, which was rather lame as far as the story and especially the acting goes. The actress who plays the lead was pretty, but was "no actor", the mother had the handicap of delivering bad dialogue, as did all the actors for that fact. The writing was "sooo" atrocious, I realize that screenwriters have a certain latitude when writing the story but, this story was pushing the envelope a wee bit too much: The mother starts in on a long diatribe on the matter of love the moment she meets the husband to be, also the cooking host on TV says this is a "family show" but continually uses the "F" word, or can you just imagine a man stalking a house in the bushes in broad daylight in an upscale neighborhood and all the neighbor could say was "you asshole", also how did they get the time to fix the truck and also not be seen, so it could stop on cue and how did Keeler get the time to get into the back of the van; where were the police and why was the couple moving themselves, don't lawyers make any money in Florida? (silly question). The passing the stone scenario was especially supercilious and a little too "ick/ooh-ish". What was the bit about the Back Street Guy as a DJ about, was that acting or what? Also why was the Host at the bar portrayed as being swishy, most gay guys are not swishy, stereo-typing for a cheap laugh I guess. And the bit about the cutesy type dog store was sort of gagging, but as I read the credits, was or is a real store in Florida, (up-chuck time). If you're going to spend a lot of money to make a decent movie, be sure to get a good writer and director, otherwise as in this case you wind up with this type of movie which I think can be best be described as "LAME".

Just Terrible
wadalicious13 March 2017
Awful movie, awful actress... lame. Please don't waste your time with this midget woman with an awkward face. Thank God she gave up acting. Rich people problems when your only talent is to have big ... Unfortunaly she's too old now to sell herself. I feel bad for the people who invested on this project.

Not Impressed...
heaven_leigh6 October 2001
The movie lacked in every department...the storyline, the characters, the actors...it wasn't even mindlessly entertaining... It is no surprise the movie never got a nation wide release...it bombed as an independent project...

not Oscar worthy, but a great chick flick
sb04nye29 April 2005
Now, I have to admit I am a HUGE Backstreet Boys fan (even at the age of 20), and that is what first drew me to the movie. I then assumed that it would be mediocre and I would quickly become bored, but that was not the case. The movie intrigued me, and made me cry twice, which only happens if it is a pretty good movie. Leighanne was surprisingly a great actress, and I am surprised she hasn't done anything more well know. The movie itself was pretty good, and having Brian and AJ from BSB just made it that much better. Its a great movie for a girls night or just when you feel you need to see a feel-good movie. To all you pessimists, just give it a chance. You may be pleasantly surprised, and if not, you only will have wasted a couple dollars on a rental. Plus, seeing Brian Littrell is priceless, so that alone is worth the rental.

why not to see Olive Juice!
Ellah7 January 2002
Although I am a great lover of all films romance, Olive Juice tested my patience a little bit. The sound quality and picture quality were not great (a little bit too grainy). The actors, a mostly unknown cast obviously didn't have anything to live up to, and I'm glad, because they didn't live up to any expectations at all! Leighanne Littrell was relying on her looks to get the movie going, as she showed no charisma on screen. The plot was thin at best, at worst, totally non existent. I think everyone should see it, so that I can be proved wrong, but it's definitely not the film for me!

Cool Video
mustangbaby848 May 2006
I've always been a big fan of the Backstreet Boys. So when I heard that Brian's wife, Leighanne was making a video, I was also interested in it. I found it to be very entertaining and funny. I watched it when it first came out and loved it. Apparently the first person who commented and found it lame woke up on the wrong side of their bed or something. If you have that much to say about the movie, and still found it lame, you obviously paid attention and probably enjoyed it more than you thought. Anyone who carries on like that is trying to cover something up that's for sure. Still, it was an excellent romantic movie, and I loved the cameo appearances of AJ and Brian.

Worst Movie of 2001
emily_littrell_bsb17 June 2004
Get a dictionary and circle every negative word you can find - that sums up this movie. I'm not saying this movie is bad just because Leighanne isn't my favorite actress. I originally rented this movie to get a good laugh anyways, but this movie ended up giving you a headache! The plot was stupid, the sound quality was terrible (especially during phone conversations, they never changed the sound effects and it annoyed me a great deal), and the acting was awful. It's my opinion that the ONLY reason it got ANY kind of publicity was because of the fact that 2 Backstreet Boys were in it (they're also shown on the cover as another way to persuade you to see it)..and the movie isn't even worth sitting through to catch a 2 second glimpse of them. Horrible movie...do NOT waste your time.

cute as cute gets
wildblandthebs21 July 2004
Aside from the bad audio dubbing, I liked this movie a lot. It's an extremely adorable love story, and has some pretty original ideas. Leighanne Litrell was the cutest thing ever and had me swooning and drooling the whole way through. The way she says fellas...it's so sweet. This is a pretty good try for a first film. It had great potential, some which was fulfilled. The character of Michelle was perfectly cast, the others were pretty good, but some of the acting could have definitely be better. The bad ADR made it almost unbearable at times, and I'm really curious why the hell they didn't find the money or the time to release it after it was all fixed. It really is the hugest downfall of this movie. Otherwise, I'd say rent it, or buy it really cheap. I got it for $1.99 at a video update blowout sale. It was worth it. If you're feeling a bit romantic, it'll be a good romp.

My comments
LilMackTruck10 October 2001
I'm not a movie critic, I just know what I like and what I don't. I happen to own my own pet-sitting business and found the story to be quite adorable. I got quite a few laughs, especially the crazy girl with all the weird stuffed animals. I also had a few tears. It's just a nice, cute movie, with a happy ending. Leighanne, you did great!!!! And Jay Love is a hoot.

There are far worse films than this one!
debs_ngie23 October 2004
In 2001 when I heard about this film - thanks to teenage music magazines and websites that carry a feature shrine to the Backstreet Boys - being a die hard fan of theirs, I just had to watch it. Now, having just finished watching the film a good 15 minutes ago, I can say...well what can I say? The relationship between Keeler (Berlau) and Michelle (Littrell) did not really develop enough in order for the audience to really believe in them - and to fall in love with them too. Secondly, what is with the ending? We never find Michelle catching her fiancée with his other woman - what's that all about? And she is too sweet of a character to just kiss another guy!!! I do agree that the publicity surrounding the special appearances of AJ and Brian were over-hyped. AJ should have been given some lines besides shouting "ORLANDO BABY" but his facial expression when his set dramatically stops is brilliant! As for Brian - cute as always!!!This isn't everyone's cup of tea but I can name far worse films than this one:- CROSSROADS, FRENCH KISS, CHASING LIBERTY ETC ETC. For a first feature film, Littrell did a good job but let's hope that this is not her break film!

I think this is a great comedy independent film!! The director & producers did a good job with the storyline and organizing the movie! I've been following the last half of the making of it about 2 years ago and looked forward to finally see the final cut!! The actresses & actors did a great job too! I suggest anybody else to see this; cute & funny!

The wait is finally over!
OceanRhythm11 October 2001
I have been waiting for several months for the release of Olive Juice, and now I can say it was well worth the wait. In her first feature film as a starring role, Leighanne (Wallace) Littrell is captivating, charming, and irresistible as Michelle Malloy. James Berlau exudes boyish charm and manly intellect as Keeler, doggy bakery owner. The supporting cast is quirky and amusing, and add to the movie's "real life" appeal. I enjoyed the cameo made by Leighanne's husband, Brian Littrell, and thought it was great that the producers had humor enough to spoof themselves and the actors. The story line itself was a refreshing escape from all of the depressing events of the past weeks. The only thing I would have liked to see would have been Keeler and Michelle passing Matt on the highway on their way to start their life together. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone in need of a laugh, a good cry, and a feel good love story.

Good Movie
BrianMoserITK6 February 2004
I thought this was a really nice movie. It deserves more credit than people give it, its really sweet and entertaining if you like love stories. Leighanne Littrell is a great actress, its a shame she isnt noticed as much as she should be, shes better than half the actresses out there today.

I thought that this movie was great I am a fan of Leighanne's I've seen all of her movies. I think that this is one of her better roles. I am also glad that she had a bigger role in this movie than her other movies. And I think that Brian and A.J. did a good job as well. I liked this movie so much I bought it!

The word horrible doesn't even describe how bad this movie is. I do not even know why I am wasting my time writing this. I just do not know why pop singers even attempt to make movies at all. They should stick to what they are seemingly good at.

This is deadly...
nyca0510 July 2003
It sucks, period. It's worse than a soap opera, and its even cheesier how they put those 2 boy band guys in there when its a little cameo. I would spend more time on this but I don't think this movie even deserve a big review, good or bad. It should just disappear.

More to a Book Than its Cover??
in-the-biz13 January 2003
Wow! What a great VHS cover. Problem is...it got my hopes up so I was only disappointed even more when I began actually watching the movie. I am sorry that this movie was so hard to watch, because I really want to see independent film flourish. We must all learn to hire actors who have experience and who can present their lines without it sounding like they are being fed to them off camera. The editing is harsh, the scene set ups are boring and the story...well, nuff said. I am glad they got it sold and hope they can make even more movies with the cash they get off this one. But...please, we low-budget filmmakers must be careful not to make movies that are not top notch. Get input on scripts, hire professionals in every position and remember, if your sound quality sucks...people will not like it.

Cute movie
PrettyKitty4230 July 2003
I enjoyed this movie. I got it on DVD as a Christmas present (hey, I asked for it), and watched it, and thought it was very adorable. I did notice the statement at the beginning of the film that the rest of you seemed to have missed where it said that the film was almost lost in a computer crash and had to be restored... yeah, maybe that's an explanation for the "crappy editing"? Yeah, whatever. I thought this movie was absolutely great, very cute. Leighanne Littrell is a wonderful actress, and I would love to see her on the big screen someday. To everyone who said this was bad, why don't you quit looking for some deep, intense meaning in every damn movie you see, and maybe just sit back and relax and enjoy a movie that is meant to be enjoyed, not overly analyzed. Great job to the actors and actresses that took part in "Olive Juice". My only pet peeve is that they really shouldn't have devoted so much cover to Brian Littrell and AJ McLean's cameos. Yeah, they're in it, yeah, that sold more copies, but it was just tacky (Backstreet Boys fan I am, yes, but still...)

Warm, funny, and refreshing
Rick-29610 March 2001
This film was fresh and thoroughly enjoyable. A basically unknown cast that proved themselves well in a funny and heart-warming movie. The plot is easy to figure out early on but doesn't detract from the overall experience. The two main characters are adorable, openly honest, and exude a wholesomeness not seen much today. Berlau is warm and funny without meaning to be and Littrell is charming, friendly, and easy on the eyes. There are several comical characters that round out the cast. The film itself appears to have been filmed on a home video camera as the picture is a little grainy and the sound quality could use some help. But once the movie starts and you get into it it doesn't seem to matter much.
