It seems as though Broadway will be chuck full of Dancing with the Stars alum during the break, as another one, this time season 7 winner Derek Hough, waltzes to appear on the production of Burn the Floor at the Longacre Theater on January 8. It's Hough's Broadway debut.
The Broadway production will close on January 10, but a world tour will begin in late February 2010, a massive one that will travel to 30 American cities. Created, directed, and choreographed by Jason Gilkison, Burn the Floor blends Latin and Ballroom dances. Hough, 24, is a former world champion in Latin American Dance, and we have Dancing with the Stars to thank for showing us what this guy can do on a ballroom stage.

With the holiday season upon us, new stage openings are sparse. What's worse, audiences have been sparse at several of this season's new shows. This week brought closing notices for two well-reviewed revivals, Finian's Rainbow (final performance Jan. 17) and Ragtime (pictured at left; final show Jan. 10). On the other hand, we received casting news on some upcoming productions (The Hangover's Justin Bartha in for T.R. Knight in the Broadway revival of Lend Me a Tenor) -- as well as word that Martin Sheen will return to the stage in February (at L.A.'s Mark Taper Forum) in a...

Words are, "Entourage" stars Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Jerry Ferrara have ended their romance. According to a source close to the 28-year-old beauty, the twosome who began dating in October 2008 have decided to go their separate ways. While the break-up was reportedly mutual, Sigler was said very distressed.
Still, the source stated that the "Love Wrecked" beauty is going to be fine. "It came at a good time for Jamie-Lynn. She was coming home to New York for the holidays anyway, and she wanted to do her own thing for a little while and definitely be out of Hollywood," the source told New York Daily News.
The split rumors first emerged when Sigler was seen attending the screening of Meryl Streep's new comedy film "It's Complicated" on Tuesday, December 15 without the companion of her actor boyfriend. "She came with a few girlfriends, and they drank wine all night. They looked...

Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Jerry Ferrara have broken up, New York Daily News has reported after being informed by a source close to "The Sopranos" actress. Break-up reports started to swirl after Sigler was spotted showing up solo for the screening of "It's Complicated" at the W Hotel in L.A. last Tuesday, December 15. "She came with a few girlfriends, and they drank wine all night. They looked like they were having a good time," a partygoer said, adding that Ferrara was nowhere to be seen.
Last Thursday, December 17, Sigler was seen hitting Susan Sarandon's NYC ping-pong bar Spin with friend Lance Bass. "Lance is a really good friend to Jamie," claimed the media's source. "He's been helping her out and giving her good advice. They were playing Ping-Pong and laughing, and it didn't seem like she was sad or anything was wrong. Lance was being really funny and entertaining her.

In the past week, two new shows have opened in New York City: A Little Night Music, a musical revival starring Angela Lansbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones (at left), and The Orphans Home Cycle, Part 2 -- The Story of a Marriage. EW reviewers enjoyed both of them. Thom Geier gave A Little Night Music a B+ and said that star Zeta-Jones comfortably commanded the stage "as if it were just another red carpet to be conquered." Meanwhile, Melissa Rose Bernardo also gave The Orphans Home Cycle, Part 2 -- The Story of a Marriage a B+ and made the powerful proclamation that...

After the judges spoke and America voted, a consensus has been reached that Russell Ferguson, not only thinks he can dance, he can. The krump dancer from Massachusetts was named the winner of season six of Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance." To reach the finals, Russell left his comfort zone to explore and master a wide range of dance genres, including lyrical jazz, the Paso Doble, and hip hop. Also on the finale, Adam Lambert returned to primetime television after his controversial American Music Awards performance. Jennifer Lopez put her Ama slip up behind her as well. In ode to the show, the high-heeled "Louboutins" singer featured contestants from the present and past seasons of "So You Think You Can Dance" as her backup dancers. Previous contestants, such as Chelsie Hightower and Lacey Schwimmer, have gone on to a pro dancing career on "Dancing with the Stars." Judge...

The past week saw the opening of two new shows in New York City. The first is a new play from David Mamet, Race, which EW critic Lisa Schwarzbaum awarded a C grade and called "a four-person dramatic tap dance about the lies blacks and whites tell each other about each other." The other—without a doubt, much lighter fare—is a lost backstage play called So Help Me God starring Kristen Johnston that EW's Jessica Shaw gave a B, commenting that "Johnston seems to relish every second" of her time on stage, "strutting around the stage in diva-worthy capes and lacy gowns,...

It's great to be on top! Just ask Dancing with the Stars pro Kym Johnson, who partnered with Donny Osmond to take home the season 9 mirror ball trophy last month. But Johnson isn't one to coast on her success. Less than 24 hours after winning, she was in rehearsals with fellow Dwts pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy for their star turn in Broadway's Burn The Floor. "Everybody has been so enthusiastic, so supportive," the Australian beauty tells People. "I've received flowers from people I don't even know. It's so amazing!"Starring on Broadway, Johnson says, "is the best thing ever. Performing in front...

Stage fans, we find ourselves on a weekend where lots of the star-driven shows on the boards -- ranging from Oleanna and After Miss Julie to A Steady Rain and Hamlet -- are set to close. Single tear. But, never fear! A handful of great new shows have opened in the last week, too, so you're covered. Reviews of five new shows went up on EW.com this week: our critics' takes on the touring production of The 101 Dalmatians Musical (B-); and off-Broadway entries The Brother/Sister Plays (A), This (B+), The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (C+), and A Streetcar Named Desire...

Mary Murphy is the So You Think You Can Dance judge who keeps on crying...and crying...and crying. But her most recent tears have nothing to do with being moved by any Sytycd contestant. Murphy is set to make her Broadway debut next month in the ballroom show Burn the Floor. First up will be a one-night only gig on Dec. 22 benefiting a domestic violence center in her hometown of San Diego, followed by a monthlong run starting Jan. 12. She began rehearsals last week in NYC... "It's so surreal to me," Murphy tells me. "Ballroom dancers have never had this kind of opportunity before. I got up there on that stage and I just started crying." While those are happy...

Former American Idol contestant Syesha Mercado may be the biggest known name in the revival of Dreamgirls that kicked off its national tour at Harlem's famed Apollo Theatre this week, but it's an unknown named Moya Angela who's generating all the buzz as Effie "I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" White, according to EW's Tanner Stransky. Also this week, the booty-shaking biographical Afrobeat musical Fela! (pictured at left) opened on Broadway to widespread raves (including a B+ from EW), while a fine cast headed by a lifeless Matthew Broderick struggled in director/playwright Kenneth Lonergan's disappointing new Off Broadway comic drama,...

It was a busy week on the boards. Sunday saw the opening of a Broadway revival of the musical Ragtime (pictured right), which EW's Melissa Rose Bernardo calls "dazzling" and gives an A. Also on Broadway, Sarah Ruhl's provocatively titled comic play In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play opened to a decidedly lukewarm review from yours truly: "Ruhl's play could have benefited from a broader, farcical touch." Elsewhere on Broadway, the Julia Stiles-Bill Pullman revival of David Mamet's Oleanna announced plans to close on Jan. 3. Off Broadway, we raved about both Alan Ayckbourn's My...

This week saw the too-rapid close of the Neil Simon revival Brighton Beach Memoirs on Broadway, as well as the opening of three Off Broadway productions: The Understudy, starring Justin Kirk, Julie White, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar (above); Idiot Savant with Willem Dafoe; and Nightingale with Lynn Redgrave. Melissa Bernardo gave a B+ to The Understudy but dinged it for the cast's somewhat mixed on-stage chemistry. Thom Geier calls Idiot Savant "one strange, head-scratching evening" and gives it a C+. As for Lynn Redgrave's one-woman show, Nightingale, I gave it a C and took issue with the production because "the...

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and his then fiancé Karina Smirnoff made their Broadway debut last summer in Burn the Floor. But Chmerkovskiy says producers have only asked him to return, which he'll do right after Thanksgiving. The hunky hoofer says there's no way he would have gone back if Smirnoff was part of the deal. The two called off their engagement just days before they danced together on the Emmys in September. "I wouldn't do it if she was asked back," Chmerkovskiy told us last night at the Sony Cierge event at the Sls Hotel in Beverly Hills. Instead, another one of Dwts' pros will be joining him... Dancing With the Stars pro Cheryl Burke may be headed to Broadway this winter, sources tell People. Burke, 25, was spotted at the Ambassador Theater Tuesday night catching the musical Chicago. A source tells People that Burke is in talks to take on the role of Roxie Hart this winter in between Dancing’s current season and season 10. "It's always been a dream of Cheryl's to perform on Broadway," the source says. "She's excited to show off her other talents besides being a good dancer. She's been vocally trained and she has a great voice." Burke's fellow Dwts pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kym Johnson are definitely heading to the Great White Way this winter in Burn the Floor at the Longacre Theatre. Last summer Dwts host Samantha Harris performed the Roxie Hart role at the Ambassador. A rep for Burke could not be reached for comment. --Monica Rizzo Tell us:...

This week saw the opening of two new Broadway productions, both revivals: The Neil Simon Plays: Brighton Beach Memoirs, a comedy-drama starring former Roseanne star Laurie Metcalf (left), which I described as "a fine revival, easily the best show of a young Broadway season," and the musical Finian's Rainbow, which Tanner Stransky called "an odd, farcical muscial" that is "well cast and smartly performed." Welcome to today's episode of Splitting With the Stars. I just learned that the dance-happy duo of Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have uncoupled and called off their long-pending nuptials. "I am confirming that they did indeed break up," Karina's rep tells me. No word yet from Team Max. Word of the split comes just a month after they debuted on Broadway in Burn the Floor.
