It's hard to believe this game is nostalgia already. At the height of the Sony Playstation's reign as the video game champ, it was churning out one memorable hit after another. One craze was the vehicular-combat genre, a genre sort of like a racing game combined with a fighting game, headlined by the "Twisted Metal" series, and one of its most memorable gems was "Vigilante 8," a vehicular-combat game set during the 1970s. It has a forgettable plot, about warring gangs vying for control of a top-secret military base in the American Southwest, and you can play as one member of either gang. What keeps "Vigilante 8" above water was the realistic destruction you could create in the fully interactive environments, the really cool cars, and the groovy '70s-style music that definitely made the game a time piece. Certainly a classic at Playstation 1's height, but the question remains about whether or not it will still have groove on its 10-year anniversary.
