Who? Them?

Pat Rooney Jr. Wants to marry Sally Starr, but her mother, Dora Maugham, says she will only accept the third offer. Rooney persuades pal Herman Timberg Jr. To be the second proposer, planning to also be the third, but Miss Maugham can't count and accepts Timberg on behalf of her disappointed daughter.

This movie is enlivened by a bevy of bathing-suit-clad beauties, two orchestras, and some hillbilly music besides the eccentric dances Rooney and Timberg each perform. It's quite amusing, but for me the men don't have much charm, lacking individuality. The double act eventually broke up and each went his way.

Warning: Spoilers
Tim Herbert steals the scene in this two reeler starring Pat Rooney Jr. As a young man engaged to Sally Starr, the daughter of domineering business woman Dora Maugham who refuses to allow her to accept a proposal until she's got at least three. So Rooney, Starr and Herbert decide to fool Maugham by having the men disguise themselves as fools so Rooney can jump in and get mom's approval as #3. But she overhears and gives Herbert her approval even though he claims to have no potential.

Very funny and actually quite clever, this could have been expanded into a short feature. Herbert shows off his comical versatility, showing up at the engagement party pretending to be a hillbilly, resulting in a rousing song and dance to "Oh them golden slippers". Maugham is very funny too, quite imposing, but quick with a sarcastic retort. Definitely a winner in this obscure two reeler series.
