The Avenue has landed North American rights to the action comedy “Old Guy,” starring Christoph Waltz, Lucy Liu and Cooper Hoffman.
Simon West directed the film, while “The Last Son” scribe Greg Johnson penned the script.
The film follows aging contract killer Danny Dolinski (Waltz), who still believes he’s the best at what he does. Stuck at a dead end but vying for the love of club manager Anata (Liu), Danny is thrilled when The Company pulls him back in the field — but it’s only to train Gen Z newcomer Wihlborg (Hoffman), a prodigy assassin with an attitude. The mismatched pair is asked to eliminate top members of a competing crime syndicate and, in the process, uncover their employer’s true motive: removing the old guard in a full takeover. However, The Company didn’t anticipate that Danny’s experience, coupled with Wihlbord’s brilliance, could enable them...

Few things are more frustrating when you’re an actor than having your scenes cut from a project. Especially if the project in question is one of the year’s most celebrated releases. Unfortunately for Tim Blake Nelson, his part in Dune: Part Two is on the cutting room floor, and the film’s director, Denis Villeneuve, has no intention of sharing his scenes with audiences. It’s nothing personal; it’s just the way things shook out.
Speaking with Collider about editing the second chapter of his science-fiction opus, Villeneuve said he’s “a strong believer that when it’s not in the movie, it’s dead.” In other words, don’t count on the Blu-ray release for Dune: Part Two to have deleted scenes as part of the physical release’s bonus features. “Sometimes I remove shots and I say, ‘I cannot believe I’m cutting this out.

A Critical Look at “Don’t Worry Darling”: What are the plot holes? ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
“Don’t Worry Darling” takes audiences on a suspenseful journey set against the idyllic 1950s backdrop, introducing us to Victory residents Alice and Jack. However, as the film unfolds, it grapples with mixed reviews and leaves viewers with a myriad of unanswered questions. From plot holes to the mechanics of the simulated reality, the film’s open-ended conclusion prompts a closer examination of its narrative choices.
The Simulated Reality:
The film’s central twist reveals Victory as an elaborate simulation where husbands immerse their wives in virtual reality. However, the movie falls short in addressing crucial details, such as the mechanics of eating, pregnancy, and living arrangements within the simulation. The lack of clarity surrounding these aspects leaves the audience grappling with inconsistencies, hindering the overall coherence of the narrative.

The Beatles‘ Yellow Submarine is often cited as a classic children’s film. Despite that, Ringo said kids hated some of his character’s actions in the film. He also revealed that he felt more joy being in movies than the other members of the Fab Four. Regardless, the soundtrack of Yellow Submarine became a massive hit.
Ringo Starr said the Sea of Holes scene in The Beatles’ ‘Yellow Submarine’ upset kids
During a 1981 interview with Rolling Stone, Ringo discussed the way he was portrayed in The Beatles’ movies. “I sort of became the one who always got into trouble,” he said. “You know, kids never forgave me for pressing the button that shot me out into the Sea of Holes in Yellow Submarine.”
In Yellow Submarine, the Sea of Holes in an endless series of black holes. It’s one of the eerier settings of a bright, family-friendly film.

Chicago – It was another city in another time when Andrew Davis directed his first film “Stony Island” in 1970s Chicago. The film was released in 1978 to acclaim, but faded into the mist of cinema. Andrew Davis is back in his hometown to introduce “Stony Island” at the Gene Siskel Film Center on Friday, November 17th, 2023. For tickets and info, click Stony Island.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
Lovingly filmed on the gritty 1970s streets in the Chicago of Andy Davis, the film features his brother Richard Davis as Ritchie, a white boy guitarist trying to break into a Southside rhythm and blues band that cooks with its own brand of Windy City soul. Based a bit on his brother’s actual circumstances, the film features actual singers and players of the era, including a magnificent performance by Gene Barge as Percy Price, the centerpiece cat in the story who ends up in a fate of celebration.

The early 2000s was a wild time for Disney, as the studio delivered a string of live-action bangers. Sure, they weren't as bold or inventive as their '90s releases, but their relatively low-budget, family-friendly movies still made bank and struck big with audiences. And that is without counting their high-concept movies like Disney's only successful ride-turned-movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," "National Treasure," and the prescient "Sky High," all phenomenal movies that would not get made today.
In 2003 alone, the studio released hit after hit, with "Holes," "The Lizzie McGuire Movie," and "Freaky Friday" all being released in the same year (until "The Haunted Mansion" broke the streak). Funnily enough, two of these had great musical numbers that fans continue to talk about to this day. As great as the final song performance in "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" is, however, only the climactic battle...

Production veterans John Attard and David “Doc” Abbott have launched Showdog Studios, a content company based in Franklin, Tenn.
The partners are self-financing the business and have established a development fund to create their own content. The pair are at work on an anthology series, “Revive: Portraits of Redemption,” with producer Tom Evans that they intend to shop to buyers down the road. Another industry veteran, Robert Harris, has joined Showdog as executive producer to help shepherd “Revive” and other projects. Franklin is about 20 miles south of Nashville.
“Doc and I are extremely excited to have Robert join the Showdog Studio team. We want to create stories of hope along the lines of the stories I’ve enjoyed watching over the years – many of which were deftly shepherded by Robert’s steady hand,” Attard said.

Labeouf would’ve gladly dated some of those co-stars if given the opportunity. But circumstances beyond his control sometimes prevented onscreen relationships from becoming a reality.

The hottest red carpet accessory in 2023? The influencer.
With the explosion of TikTok, content creators have become mainstays at big premieres and awards shows, popping up at events for all the major studios and streamers as well as at Cannes, the Golden Globes, Grammys and Oscars. Film and TV red carpets in particular have transformed into two-hour-plus events, with portions devoted to influencers and their content, taking selfies, going live on social or filming dance videos and elaborate TikTok trends against the step and repeat for the first hour, followed by the project’s stars making their way down press lines for the second. Some creators are paid, some are not; some have millions of followers, others have smaller but highly engaged audiences in a demographic that the studio or event is seeking. All this is making for a complicated, competitive business that goes beyond posting a photo.

One particular actor who has had a rather complicated, but fascinating career is Shia Labeouf. He was once a beloved child star who started out on the Disney channel, then made a great transition to 2003’s Holes for his film debut. Heck, I’ve been watching him since his days on the Even Stevens show. His breakout role in Holes was my introduction to his film career and I’ve been paying attention to him ever since. Eventually, the man would become a great leading man in some big movies. The year of 2007 was pretty much his year, as he landed

He would make his big-screen breakthrough in the form of director Michael Bay’s live-action “Transformers” franchise launched in 2007 as human hero Sam Witwicky, who becomes involved in a war between the mechanical alien foes Autobots and Decepticons.
He was recruited to co-star as Harrison Ford’s greaser son Mutt Williams in 2008’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” the fourth installment of the series directed by Steven Spielberg that is set in the 1950s. In the world of K-pop, an artist’s most precious commodity isn’t necessarily their angelic voice or tight double pirouette — it’s time. That’s because for the majority of male K-pop idols, looming in the distance is the guarantee that once you reach your late twenties, you’ll have to serve in the Korean military for 18 months.

A misunderstanding on set is nothing to get furious about.
Scott Eastwood recalled that while filming David Ayer’s 2014 World War II movie “Fury,” he butted heads with co-star Shia Labeouf and Brad Pitt had to diffuse the situation.
It all started after Eastwood spat on the tank in which the trio were riding. While the action was scripted, Labeouf didn’t realize Eastwood’s character was meant to do that.
“[Labeouf] got mad at me and it turned into a volatile moment that Brad Pitt ultimately got in the middle of,” Eastwood told Insider. “You’ve got to put things in perspective. This is make believe, it’s fun, and at times it’s serious and you’re doing emotional work and you give people space to do that in, but everything has to have its parameters.”

“Saturday Night Live” returned with its second batch of all-new episodes on Nov. 6 and once again, Covid-19 was the hot topic for the cold open sketch. Specifically this time, the NBC late-night sketch comedy series parodied NFL player Aaron Rodgers’ controversial comments and anti-vaccination stance and also included new cast member James Austin Johnson’s impression of Donald Trump.
Played by Pete Davidson, this fictional version of Rodgers appeared on “Justice with Jeanine Pirro,” with Cecily Strong of course reprising her beloved role as Pirro. He joined her remotely to discuss how the “woke mob” is now coming after him.
“It’s my body and my Covid. I can give it to whoever I want,” he tried to argue. He also said he never lied about his status, noting that he took all of his teammates into a huddle, “got their faces three inches from my wet mouth and told them,...

Mike Medavoy, CEO of Phoenix Pictures, is partnering with Mariel Hemingway and producer Sam Sokolow on a limited series about the life and times of Ernest Hemingway, TheWrap has learned exclusively.
The series will explore the famous writer’s life as often fictionalized in classic novels like “A Farewell to Arms” and “The Sun Also Rises,” and will also delve into the unexplored psychological trauma that haunted him until he took his own life in 1961.
Stephen Leeds and Mark Chambers penned the pilot script and will also executive produce the project, which is not yet set up at a network or streamer.
“Hemingway was a genius, a soldier, a spy, a revolutionary, and counter to legend, one of the most sensitive writers of his era.” Medavoy said. “He won both a Pulitzer and a Nobel Prize for Literature, medals for bravery in both World Wars, and even survived two plane crashes in one day.

Shia Labeouf may only be 34 years old, but his filmography already stretches back over 20 years and he seems to now be in the midst of the fourth distinctive stage of his always interesting career.
Having started off as a child star, showing up in productions like Even Stevens, The X-Files, ER and Holes, he soon found a steady career making big budget box office hits after leading Michael Bay’s first three Transformers films, Eagle Eye and Disturbia. Of course, along the way also came supporting roles in high profile efforts like I, Robot, Constantine, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
It wasn’t long, though, before he sort of went off the rails, constantly making headlines for bizarre and eccentric behavior. And though recent years have seen him reinvent himself as an acclaimed dramatic talent, it seems he’s now...

Shia Labeouf may only be 34 years old, but he’s been working solidly for over 20 years now and already finds himself in the midst of the fourth distinctive stage of his constantly-evolving career.
Having broken out as a child star and appeared in the likes of Even Stevens, The X-Files, ER and Holes, he became a fixture in big budget box office hits after leading Michael Bay’s first three Transformers movies, Eagle Eye and Disturbia, along with snagging supporting roles in I, Robot, Constantine, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
From there, he turned his back on mainstream fare and frequently found himself in the headlines for his bizarre and eccentric behavior, before reinventing himself yet again as an acclaimed dramatic talent that always fully immerses himself into his characters. In fact, he’s even been labeled as the finest actor of his generation.

Shia Labeouf may have risen to fame in Disney Channel’s Even Stevens before becoming one of the most promising actors of his generation thanks to a string of hits like Holes, I, Robot, Eagle Eye, Disturbia, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and the first three Transformers movies, but it wasn’t long before he took a turn down a troubled path that saw him quickly fall out of favor with Hollywood, leading to him walking away from blockbuster filmmaking and focusing more on indies.
There’s no denying that Labeouf’s behavior is often more than a little eccentric, but with the right material he can still be an incredibly magnetic and enjoyable screen presence. He’s well known for fully throwing himself into his characters and his next role looks to be no different in that regard, with the actor already turning heads for...

Shia Labeouf may have shot to fame as the lead of Disney Channel’s Even Stevens before becoming one of the fastest-rising young talents in the industry after starring in a string of crowd-pleasing box office hits like Holes, I, Robot, Eagle Eye, Disturbia, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and the first three Transformers movies, but he eventually turned his back on blockbusters in order to focus on his reputation as a serious dramatic actor.
While the 34 year-old’s behavior has been more than a little eccentric at times over the last few years, there’s no denying that with the right material he can be one of the most magnetic and watchable performers around. Even his co-stars have been floored by his dedication, with The Peanut Butter Falcon’s Dakota Johnson claiming that he could very well be the finest actor of his generation.

In order to promote health and safety guidelines in the wake of the novel coronavirus, Freeform is launching a multi-platform social distancing campaign called #StayTheFFHome, Variety has learned exclusively.
The goal of #StayTheFFHome is to encourage the Freeform audience to take state officials’ “safer at home” and “shelter in place” advisories seriously. To further entice young adults to hunker down wherever they dwell, Freeform has put together a special programming lineup to give them something to binge and will be running special PSAs on-air and across social media in which talent from the network’s shows talks about the importance of social distancing and flattening the curve. Additionally, Freeform will be branding billboards and other outdoor posters with the logo for the campaign.
“Freeform is a brand that is inherently built on taking a stand on issues our audience believes in — what is more important at a time like this than encouraging social distancing?...

The National’s Matt Berninger rides a bicycle to the beach in the video for “Holes.” Berninger covered the Mercury Rev track for the 7-inches for Planned Parenthood series, titled Vol.2-Pt.2.
Directed by Chris Sgroi, the clip shows Berninger recording the song as scenes of him on the bike flash by. He stands on a foggy beach, staring at the ocean. Originally released on Mercury Rev’s 1999 LP Deserter’s Songs, Berninger’s take is much more somber and delicate. “Holes, dug by little moles, angry jealous,” he sings over acoustic guitar.

If you were born in the '80s, chances are you have a cabinet in your house with organized VHS tapes of Disney classics. Although visually appealing to see all of those films lined up in their pristine cases, they're just decoration now that Disney has launched its own streaming service giving us access to our childhood favorites wherever we go. We have just one question: Where is The Lion King? We need our Donald Glover and Beyoncé fix, Disney.
Since Disney+'s long-awaited debut, many of us have been rewatching classics like Peter Pan and Cinderella, but we're still waiting for some our key films and original series to drop on the platform. As 2020 rolls in, so do more Disney classics like Cool Runnings, Proud Family, and Holes. January will also see the rollout of some of Disney's biggest blockbusters of 2019 including Aladdin on Jan. 8, and - drum roll,...

Netflix may get most of the attention, but it’s hardly a one-stop shop for cinephiles who are looking to stream essential classic and contemporary films. Each of the prominent streaming platforms caters to its own niche of film obsessives.
From chilling horror fare on Shudder, to the boundless wonders of the Criterion Channel, and esoteric (but unmissable) festival hits on Film Movement Plus and Ovid.tv, IndieWire’s monthly guide highlights the best of what’s coming to every major streaming site, with an eye towards exclusive titles that may help readers decide which of these services is right for them.
Here’s the best of the best for January 2020.
“Midsommar”
Despite its ritualistic terrors, slasher-inspired structure, and “Hostel”-like affinity for butchering self-obsessed American tourists, “Midsommar” is clearly a film that uses horror tropes as a means to an end. The sun-blasted story of a grieving young woman...
