A middle aged woman discusses her passion of cooking and how she has put in the effort over the past thirty years with her husband to try and open up his taste buds. However as she talks about her cooking we learn more about her life, in particular her relationship with her husband.
When this started I thought it was going to be awful. A middle-aged woman talking to the camera about food making terrible puns with a knowing look. Terrible! But the seconds went by and, although the talk stayed on food and cookery, we were told a little more about this woman's life. It was so cleverly written that the bigger picture formed without me even knowing it!
The direction made it look like a cookery show - but that made he impact of the dialogue so much more powerful. The lead actress does well - prim and proper but with past hurts just visible underneath thanks to perfectly delivered lines and words. She was good but to me the thanks must all be laid at the writer's feet - what a well written character and idea.
The film ends a little too tidily but it is no less enjoyable for it. Overall it starts well and grips you with a very well written monologue delivered with confidence - Talking Head's Bennett would be proud.
