If you already knew MJW has martial arts skills and haven't seen this film, you know nothing.
And that was exactly me. Through discussions with friends after seeing a recent movie with MJW, someone said no martial arts film would ever top this one with or without MJW in it, and shockingly, I never heard of it. I don't know what I was doing in 2009 to have not heard of or seen this film, but clearly I missed out big time. My friends were shocked I've never seen this and all insisted I do, and thus here I am.
I've always been a fan, and it's always great to see MJW do his thing, but I never understood why his martial arts skills didn't get him into A-films instead of constant B-films, and after seeing this film, that question is even louder. Another reviewer A_Different_Drummer nailed it in his review why this is one of the greatest displays of martial arts in a film since the Bruce Lee era. MJW deserves to be in the same category as Bruce Lee after seeing his stunning display of skills. I'm thinking MJW needs to find a better casting agency, because even though he is older now since this film, seeing his latest action scenes in his recent films proves he hasn't lost his mojo. He just needs to be cast in better films with better filmmakers to get out of the B-zone.
As for the story, it wasn't bad but still had plot inconsistencies and holes in it, so that alone I would've rated a 6/10. But also considering the amazing fight choreography and outstanding display of MJW's martial arts skills that for me now are on a entirely higher level, that is a 10/10 for entertainment and thrill value. So my average for this film is an 8/10.
