Laugh out loud antics by silent comedy stars
I was lucky enough to get this tacked onto a Max Davidson DVD. I assumed it was a compilation done for early television and was surprised (but shouldn't have been) to find out that it was released theatrically in 1943. Although the print I saw was not that great, it was still a highly enjoyable compilation – and Knox Manning's narration was a hoot. Billy Bevan had a big part in it and I was interested to hear Manning pronounce his last name as Bee-van and not Bev-an as I had always thought it pronounced. All of the routines are funny including the Mack Sennett bathing beauties excerpt but especially the bakery revolving kiosk routine. I did not recognize Mabel Normand in the film and may give it another look. This comedy short is a keeper.
