After Microsoft’s closure of the Activision Blizzard merger last year, Xbox is now one of the biggest publishers in the gaming industry, a far cry from just 10 years ago, when it had a paltry five studios developing mostly Halo, Gears, and Forza games.
However, things have massively changed now, as the brand has 36 game development studios under its umbrella, as well as ownership of legendary IPs like Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Diablo, and many more. With names like these representing Xbox in the future, where does Halo -the trendsetter that kickstarted the platform in 2002 – fit in?

Legendary Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and playwright David Mamet said that his children aren’t nepo babies and that they have achieved their success due to their talent. His daughter Zosia Mamet is best known for starring on “Girls” alongside news anchor Brian Williams’ daughter Allison Williams, Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke’s daughter Jemima Kirke and creator Lena Dunham, daughter of a pair of New York City artists.
Promoting his memoir “Everywhere an Oink Oink” over the weekend at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, David conceded that his daughters — including Zosia’s sister Clara Mamet — learned from spending time on set with their father, according to the L.A. Times. He noted that he felt gratified by that.
Speaking particularly of the successful Zosia, Mamet argued that his daughters haven’t benefited from any form of privilege. “They earned it by merit,” he said.

There is no argument in admitting how the Halo franchise has one of the largest fan bases across the globe when it comes to video games. The series and its characters have managed to have a huge impact on not only who experienced the game, but the gaming industry as a whole.
The main protagonist of the game, Master Chief, is an icon not only in the game’s fan base but the pop and entertainment culture as a whole. Unfortunately, many often forget the existence of one soldier, who was considered to be deadlier than Master Chief himself and paved the path for humanity to continue living till his very last breath.

This Halo article contains spoilers.
While it’s never pretended to be a direct adaptation of the classic video game series it’s based on, the Halo TV series has made some really weird alterations to Master Chief and his world, and the latest change to the story Halo fans know and love is the most bewildering yet. It comes just as the show finally sets course to cover the Fall of Reach, a pivotal event from the games and tie-in books that has somehow taken a season and a half to get to.
To be fair, there are a few things to like about season 2 episode 4, “Reach.” For one, at the height of its war-movie-style CGI-heavy action, the show finally feels like Halo and not a talky political thriller that only occasionally flirts with the spectacle of the games. That we’re finally at the Fall of Reach also...

For those who may be unaware, allow me to fill you in on a little secret: Gamers can be a pretty, er, passionate bunch. With superhero movies on the downswing and Hollywood's ever-imaginative bean counters frantically searching for their latest holy grail, video game adaptations appear to be the next Big Thing on the horizon. That comes with all sorts of sky-high expectations -- particularly when you're talking about one of the most beloved video game franchises ever made.
The somewhat hit-or-miss first season of "Halo" (to put it generously) often fell victim to that yawning gulf between expectations and reality. Bizarrely enough, the showrunners didn't bother adapting the events of the original game, "Combat Evolved," or even the hundreds of pages of material from the tie-in novels that detailed the origins of Master Chief and his cadre of super-soldiers. The story the Paramount+ series told instead was an oddball mix of head-scratching new material,...

The 2004 film “Spartan” has largely been forgotten, but the thriller will always have a place in history as the movie that made Val Kilmer hate David Mamet.
A viral Twitter thread has sparked renewed interest in the film’s DVD commentary track, in which Kilmer repeatedly insults his director Mamet for what Kilmer saw as pompous and occasionally abusive on-set behavior. The film, which centers around a search for the President’s kidnapped daughter, was the first collaboration between Mamet and Kilmer. Based on the actor’s comments, it’s not surprising that it ended up being their last.
“He’s cruel,” Kilmer said of Mamet. “He hates actors, having failed at the profession himself. There were a lot of tears on the set. It was tough, because you’d be playing a tough guy and he’d break you down. But in front of everyone too, he wouldn’t do it in the trailer.

1993 was an important year for Sylvester Stallone. After a long string of flops, Renny Harlin’s mountaineering epic Cliffhanger was the much-needed international hit Sly needed, with the film helping to reaffirm his position as one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood. But, before that movie had ever come out, Sly was shooting his second film of the year, once which, in the end, would make less money than Cliffhanger but would go on to achieve legendary cult status. Almost thirty years later, it remains Stallone’s most famous film featuring a character that isn’t named Rocky or Rambo. The movie, of course, is Demolition Man.

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between.
Today, we discuss one of the most intriguing actors of his generation: Val Kilmer! To tackle such an enigma, we bring in the legendary Katie Walsh! A must-follow on Twitter, a co-host of the insatiably-entertaining Miami Nice Podcast, and an accomplished writer. The B-Sides featured today are: Kill Me Again, At First Sight, The Salton Sea, and Mindhunters.
We discuss how Kilmer was a prodigy––the youngest student admitted into Juilliard’s drama department––before his Broadway debut in the (ultimately) star-studded Slab Boys. There’s talk of his well-documented penchant to be difficult on set, as well as those who defended him and his abilities.
We confront Dan’s deep admiration for the poorly-aged The Salton Sea,...

Halo Episode 9
Having steered its Master Chief pretty far outside of the bounds of the character game fans know and love, the Halo TV series finally feels like a video game again. That doesn’t mean this episode is good. The video game adaptation curse remains in place, and it’s hard to dig beneath the surface here. A floaty finale action scene both jumped the shark (again) and underwhelmed, opening a door to a second season that…may or may not include the actual Halo ring? As the episode title implies, the show wants to establish the Halo as a place of spiritual significance, a points the games easily conveyed through their choral soundtracks without having to belabor things. The characters are pilgrims progressing, sure, but the central metaphors don’t even have that much staying power.
The finale opens at a turning point:...

Are the humans in the problem?
Halo Season 1 Episode 8 posed many questions as Makee and John connected in more ways than one, and while it was one of the better episodes of the series, I still expected more.
Makee initially seemed like the kind of person that would lure John and the Unsc into a false sense of security before backstabbing them.
However, she was on a journey throughout "Allegiance," and meeting someone she connected with allowed her the chance to form her own assessment of the people on Reach.
We already knew Makee had a rough go of it with humans on the planet she was picked up from as a child.
Her life was horrible. It was a desperate battle for survival, so it was understandable she would side with the aliens over the human race.
I appreciated how you could see that she genuinely thought that maybe...

Halo Episode 5
At last, Halo has figured out how to combine its emotional core with a bit of action. It’s a pity that core doesn’t shine a bit brighter, but hardcore Halo fans might find this episode worth it for the action alone. Feats from the games, and what looks like some polished-up animation, make the final battle a lot of fun, although some character beats still lack polish.
Most of the secrets are out. After touching the newly-discovered artifact, Master Chief now knows his own story: that Halsey recruited him (and presumably the others) to the Spartan program by kidnapping him and replacing him with another child. The revelation finally jolts him out of the cycle of being manipulated and then comforted by Halsey. John attacks her, and Cortana shuts him down like a computer needing a restart. Conveniently, the Covenant attack.

In what can be called movie geek comfort food, Battle: Los Angeles and Krull have become cult favorites over the years. Why? You can watch either movie while doing other things keeping an extra eye on the screen, have devout fans who can recite the dialogue verbatim and will defend both movies to the end. Guilty pleasures, yes, cult status, definitely.
Even HBO Max has it listed as such.
The 2011 sci-fi and 1982 fantasy films have come to HBO Max and are available to stream now.

The return of fan-favorite shows, auteurs tackling new original series, new documentaries and more headline what’s new on HBO Max in April 2022.
Top of the list is the HBO Max original series “The Flight Attendant,” which returns for its second season on April 21. Then there’s the long-awaited return of Bill Hader’s “Barry” on April 24 on HBO and HBO Max, as well as Season 3 of “The Black Lady Sketch Show” on April 8.
In terms of new originals, “The Wire” and “The Deuce” creator David Simon is back with the new series “We Own This City” on April 25, which chronicles the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force. Michael Mann executive produces and directs the first episode of the neo-noir “Tokyo Vice,” which premieres on April 7. April is about to be a good month for returning HBO and HBO Max properties.
HBO Max’s list of releases for April 2022 features three hotly anticipated seasons of television. The Flight Attendant, which helped launch HBO Max as a viable spot for good dramedy in 2020, premieres its second season on April 21. That will be followed by another go-around for the sci-fi comedy Made for Love on April 28. Of course, the big ticket item this month is something that HBO Max inherited from its cable cousin. Barry season 3 will continue the story of hitman-turned-actor Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) on April 24.
The TV offerings run much deeper than just returning shows this month. April 7 sees the arrival of Tokyo Vice, a sprawling crime drama with some episodes directed by Michael Mann. The series stars Ansel Elgort as an American journalist embedding himself in Tokyo’s criminal underground in the late ’90s.

Now, that's how you follow up a premiere.
Halo Season 1 Episode 2 had the right amount of action, moving pieces, and world-building to reiterate that the TV adaptation has the legs to carry the franchise to new heights.
The desperate mission to Rubble was an excellent way to bring more humanity to John.
While Halo Season 1 Episode 1 highlighted there was more going on behind his eyes than we were being led to believe, "Unbound" stressed that his kindness seems deeply tied to his past.
Giving Soren that head start all those years ago was a key development because it gave John and Kwan somewhere to hide out temporarily.
Soren clearly understood there was something amiss about the Spartan program and didn't want to lose the memories that we've witnessed return to John.
There are many questions surrounding Soren's survival, but he certainly seemed trustworthy enough to look after Kwan.

The ‘Halo’ franchise revolves around the Spartans, super soldiers who defend the galaxy against an alien force known as the Covenant. In the new Paramount Plus TV series, one of the Spartans is played by Kate Kennedy, who talked to Variety about her experience gearing up in the armor for the show.
“It was really empowering, I loved entering set everyday wearing the suit,” Kennedy told Variety on the red carpet of the “Halo” premiere this Wednesday. “I felt so badass. And being around such incredible women, and [executive producer] Kiki Wolfkill at the helm, they’re all so impressive, and I’m in awe of all of them.”
Kennedy also told Variety that the suit also helped protect her from sustaining injuries during filming.
“On day one, Pablo [Schreiber] has a video actually, I’m sure it will come to surface, of me totally hitting deck, just face-plant in the cave,” Kennedy said.

Halo Episode 1
2022 is a strange time to release a Halo TV show. While the franchise was a hot topic in Hollywood in the 2000s, the Halo series as a whole seems like less of a juggernaut today. While the latest game, Halo Infinite, was well received, there simply isn’t the whole-hearted enthusiasm the series garnered in the days of the original Xbox and Xbox 360. Is the age of Halo over? Is the TV show the start of a new golden age for the franchise?
The first episode answers “no” to both questions, while offering up some decent sci-fi entertainment. There’s some geeky fun to be found in “Contact,” if not quite enough polish and shine.
Quick clarification: the TV series is not canon to the games, per se. Instead, an alternate “Silver timeline” established for the show allows the creators to mix-and-match familiar concepts from the games,...

“Halo” has been renewed for a second season by Paramount Plus, in advance of the series premiere of the long-anticipated video game adaptation on March 24. David Wiener — who created “Brave New World” and was a co-executive producer on “Fear the Walking Dead” and “Homecoming” — is also officially joining the series as executive producer and showrunner, which was first reported on Feb 1.
The early renewal is a strong vote of confidence for the adaptation of Microsoft’s $6 billion-dollar blockbuster gaming franchise for the Xbox, which has been in the works as a series since 2014. Set a fire in your heart, Spartan, because very soon you’ll be able to jump into Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer mode for free. After a series of leaks earlier this week, Xbox has confirmed on Twitter that the game’s multiplayer component will be free-to-play for all and will support 120 fps on Xbox Series X.
That latter bit is especially interesting since it means that the multiplayer and campaign components of Halo Infinite will showcase different frame rates. 343 recently confirmed that the campaign will run at 4K 60fps.

Sylvester Stallone knows a thing or two about resurrecting his long-dormant and most popular franchises after bringing both Rocky Balboa and John Rambo back to the big screen in recent years, and now he’s in the early stages of creating a follow-up to what many of the actor’s fans regard as one of his unsung greats.
It was recently confirmed that a sequel to 1993’s Demolition Man was in the works, and unsurprisingly, those with a strong affinity for the original are very much on board with the news. While no other details are available yet about John Spartan’s return, we’ve already heard that Wesley Snipes is also wanted to reprise his role as Spartan’s arch-nemesis Simon Phoenix, and now some new plot details have come our way which shed some light on how that may work.

I have a serious love/hate relationship with Compile Heart. While some of their games — the mainline Neptunia titles in particular — can shine despite their obvious flaws, others tend to fall flat. The developer’s latest endeavor, a chibi-faced action-rpg called Arc of Alchemist, definitely doesn’t win them any favors. The experience as a whole feels slipshod and slapdash, and I never felt even the slightest sense of fun and excitement at any point during my playthrough. Were it not for this review, I would have shut everything down after 15 minutes and deleted the game from my Switch. Even if the lackluster story and rudimentary combat didn’t ruin everything Compile Heart set out to achieve, the poor optimization on the Switch effectively ruins any enjoyment you could hope to glean from the adventure. It’s a bad game.
Storywise, Arc of Alchemist seems like the follow-up to another game,...

The final moments of the Arrow series finale finale gave the Arrowverse its very own Green Lantern
This article contains massive spoilers for Arrow Season 8 Episode 10, "Fadeout."
Well, it finally happened. The Arrowverse now officially has a Green Lantern. The Arrow series finale, “Fadeout” featured in its final moments something that fans have been clamoring for in the DC TV universe almost since its inception: a Green Lantern ring. And it wasn’t enough for there just to be a ring show up on the screen. Oh no...it was found by none other than John Diggle, the most beloved second banana in superhero history this side of Dick Grayson, and a character who has had connections to the Green Lantern mythos teased on the show.
In the extraordinarily unlikely event you don’t know what a Green Lantern is, allow me to help. The Green Lantern...

Arrow‘s series finale will follow up the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover’s glimpse of Oa, home of the Green Lantern Corps, by dropping final hints about John Diggle’s speculated connection to the intergalactic law enforcement organization.
For years, the Arrowverse has dropped breadcrumbs pointing to Dig (played by original cast member David Ramsey) becoming a Gl. During “Elseworlds,” for example, the Flash of Earth-90 asked John why he wasn’t wearing his “ring.” And in the Season 7 Arrow episode “Spartan,” it was revealed that John’s stepfather is named General Roy Stewart. The cast is assembled and table reads complete, as production starts on the Steven Spielberg produced, 10-episode, live-action "Halo" TV series for Showtime, based on the bestselling first-person shooter video games, starring Pablo Schreiber ("American Gods") as 'Master Chief', a 'Spartan' super soldier and humanity’s last hope against the alien 'Covenant':
"It is a very different genre", said Showtime.
"...it's a futuristic, space-based science fiction, not fantasy.
"It took us a long time to get the script but we felt like we had something that was really interesting and felt like it belonged on Showtime in terms of its character depth...and it's gonna' be a big show."
"We made a conscious decision to hire a writer not known for sci-fi and not known for big battle movies because that's already baked into the 'Halo' franchise. And we will service that, but we also wanted...
