Paramount Global will combine its free streaming services Pluto TV and My5, the video-on-demand service of British broadcaster Channel 5, in the U.K. next year.
The entertainment conglomerate said on Wednesday that the move will bring together broadcast video-on-demand (Bvod) service My5 “with its leading Fast service Pluto TV to bring audiences in the U.K. a supersized, free streaming service in 2024.” It called the U.K. a “critical market.”
The launch is planned for the second half of next year. “Further details on the brand and product will be announced in early 2024,” Paramount said on Wednesday.
However, it promised “an extensive range of new, exclusive and archived content from Channel 5, as well as an extensive on-demand section and an outstanding collection of curated Fast channels from Pluto TV.” And it highlighted: “The product, which will leverage Pluto TV’s best-in-class technology platform, will combine Bvod, Fast, AVOD and live TV all at once,...

Starting as a comedy podcast about ghosts, mysteries and conspiracies in 2015, ParaPod has now become a movie. The first podcast to make that transfer to full feature film. I though had never listened to the podcast and knew very little about the movie, so would it work?
The short answer is thankfully yes. This is part comedy part horror part documentary (or mockumentary I’m not actually sure!) and does each of those things expertly.
Ian Boldsworth (also the director) and Barry Dodds, the hosts of the podcast, travel the U.K. to underground witches, haunted villages, violent poltergeists and much more, with Barry trying to prove to Ian that the paranormal is very real and it’s out there. You see, Barry believes in ghosts, despite never actually witnessing one, while Ian is very much sceptical,...

When most of us love something – a film, a band, a football team – we express that love by wearing the t-shirt or getting a tattoo. When Nick Frost, Simon Pegg and their mates love something, they express it by making a feature film trilogy. Or a cult 90s TV series. Or eight-part comedy-horror Truth Seekers.
Truth Seekers, co-created by Frost, Pegg, Nat Saunders and James Serafinowicz, is the product of fandom. It’s a bundle of admiration for horror in all guises, from the shonky DIY of Most Haunted to cultivated glitch and found-footage movie scares, to the recently revived anthology tradition. It has a go at recreating it all, tipping its hat so often that it can’t quite juggle the rest of its ambitions because its hand is already too full of hat.

During the first ten minutes, you’d be forgiven for wondering if you’d been mis-sold Under The Shadow. Because while, yes, it is a supernatural horror movie about evil djinn, it starts out looking an awful lot like a drama about a family living in a warzone.
Shideh (Narges Rashidi) is a young mother living in 1980s Tehran, trying to hold her life together as the Iran-Iraq war destroys everything around her. Once a promising medical student, Shideh was forced out of university by Iran’s Cultural Revolution; having taken part in leftist political rallies, she’s effectively barred from finishing her degree, which leaves her little option than to stay home and look after her daughter, Dorsa (Avin Manshadi). And as if the encroaching conflict weren’t bad enough, as if it weren’t terrifying enough that her husband Iraj...

Yvette Fielding has accused Lady Colin Campbell of personally attacking her in the 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!' jungle. The 'Most Haunted' host was voted out of the competition last night (30.11.15) and has revealed the royal biographer has been launching personal attacks on her, Duncan Bannatyne, Tony Hadley and evicted campmate Brian Friedman during their time in the jungle, but says they've been edited out by producers. Yvette said: ''I think I lost my temper with her eventually because what you didn't see on camera is the personal comments that she was making towards myself, Duncan, Tony and Brian.

A heatwave is set to hit the 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!' camp. The reality show's bosses have reportedly put medical staff on red alert to make sure the celebrity contestants don't suffer heatstroke with temperatures of over 40 degrees predicted for some areas of Australia today (20.11.15). The heatwave could be especially dangerous for 'Most Haunted' presenter Yvette Fielding who has a skin condition known as vitiligo and once got third degree burns in cloudy sunshine in Somerset. A source told Mirror Online: ''Medics are on extra alert because of this extreme hot weather, Yvette is at real risk with...

Yvette Fielding has slammed several reality TV shows, arguing that they set bad examples for viewers.
The Most Wanted presenter began by taking issue with Big Brother, naming it as a TV turn-off while talking to The Guardian.
"I know I swear when I'm scared on Most Haunted, but some of these characters on Big Brother - they're using the C-word in every other sentence," she said. "Is there really any need for that?"
Fielding continued by listing Geordie Shore and The Valleys as other programmes that also put her off.
"I think that a lot of the problems with binge drinking and promiscuity are to do with some of these shows," she said.
"They actually showed a girl weeing in the shower! It's too far. Bring back Mary Whitehouse!"

Though I’ve always been aware of Lenore and read the odd collection, I have to admit up front that the series has never quite meshed with me. I can find its dark humour amusing from time to time, but it’s part of a culture that I was never around (namely, late 80′s/early 90′s disaffected Goth culture) and so don’t quite ‘get’ its appeal.
Perhaps it’s because in a world where everything these days has to work on at least 20 different levels to appear worthy of being included in our cultural lexicon, my brain has trouble digesting a story which is just about a dead girl dicking about with her mates. However, in the interests of fairness, Lenore: Pink Bellies seems to have better structure and storytelling chops than prior work I’ve read of Dirge’s.

Scotland is a small, if somewhat eccentric country, with a population at the 5 million mark, and it’s also a strong contender for the crown of Most Haunted Country In The World. With a violent and brutal history, it has given rise to some of the most compelling and romanticised ghost stories the Internet has ever seen, and some of its cities are so steeped in ghostly history that they have a thriving ghost tour trade.
If you’re lucky, you might even get savagely attacked by an apparition while you wander through the spooky sites.
As well as the usual castles and sprawling houses, spooks crop up in Glasgow and other parts of the old industrial heartland, which may seem like more unlikely places for a creepy tale than the castles and rolling hills of the Highlands. Add to that haunted roads and beaches, and it feels like...

Dark Vision is a paranormal competition. Five teams enter and try to make the best paranormal television show possible, but only one can be the victor. We follow Spencer Knights (Bernie Hodges) and his ‘Mindfull’ crew as they set off the Baylock’s Folly, a haunted place where dark happenings are said to have happened in the past. They plan to spend the night, documenting and trying to reveal the secret of Baylock’s Folly, even if they have to make it up a bit themselves. But what they find is more than they could have bargained for. There is more in the darkness than you know…
This film reminded me so much of my early teen years where I used to sit and watch Most Haunted...

Most Haunted is being revived for a new series on Really.
The channel will launch a new 10-episode series of the ghost-hunting show in August, with host Yvette Fielding confirmed to return.
The series originally aired on Living TV (now Sky Living), before ending in 2010. The show has filmed over 180 episodes and 500 hours of footage.

A hospital designed for tuberculosis patients in the first half of the 20th century, Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louiville, Kentucky has since developed a reputation as one of the world's most haunted places – leading to its appearance in episodes of Ghost Hunters, Scariest Places on Earth, Most Haunted, Ghost Adventures, Paranormal Challenge and more. Photo: Charlie & Tina Mattingly From 1910 to 1962, Waverly Hills was home to hundreds of TB sufferers, many of whose lives ended within its rooms... and many believe the ghosts of those less fortunate patients are still roaming the corridors. Paranormal investigators have devoted particular attention to the tunnels running beneath the main floor, through which hospital workers once transported the bodies of the dead. As you can imagine, that's where the creepiest sightings have taken place... like this chilling image of a girl apparently hiding in an alcove: Photo: Tom Halstead Since they purchased the property in 2001, the building's current owners,...

While most of the haunted colleges we've reported on recently have histories dating back to the 19th century (like the University of Georgia at Athens, a strong contender for America's most haunted college), the campus of California State University Channel Islands – which opened just 12 years ago – may be the youngest American school with a dark and paranormal legacy. Built on the grounds of a former mental hospital (which shut its doors in 1997 for financial reasons), Csu Channel Islands may be recognizable to horror fans as one of the filming locations for the The Ring – but that's not nearly as spooky as the school's own haunted history. The school has already made Listverse's Top 10 Most Haunted Us Colleges, and paranormal tourism site Creepy Los Angeles posted a first-hand account from a Csu student who claims to have heard the sounds of a crying woman in one of the abandoned halls, doors...

Once the home of a famous beer baron and his family, St. Louis, Missouri landmark Lemp Mansion is now a favorite destination for ghost hunters, and for good reason: in 1980, Life magazine named the house one of the “Ten Most Haunted Places in America.” Photo: Matt Hucke The house was built in 1868 and bought in 1876 by William Lemp Sr., who had taken over the family's brewing business after his father's death in 1862. It was later expanded to the luxurious estate seen today. The building also contains many secret passageways, some of which linked the house (which also served as Lemp's business office) with the nearby brewery. When William Lemp Sr.'s son Frederick died of a heart attack at age 28, the family's legacy of misfortune began. Further tragedies took their toll on William Sr., who took his own life in 1904, just three years after his son's death. More tragedies followed,...

Ghosts always catch people’s interest whether it be a “live investigation” or the latest found footage horror film that promises to be the scariest thing you’ve ever seen. Muirhouse is a movie based on what is said to be one of the most haunted houses in Australia, and yes it features people walking around a house with cameras pickup up all the “footage” that takes place.
Set in 2007 author Phillip Muirhouse takes part in an investigation into the infamous Monte Cristo homestead, said to be one of the most haunted places in Australia. Agreeing to meet up with a group of investigators to take part in the investigation he breaks the number one rule of ghost hunting, never be alone.

Yvette Fielding wants to lock Helen Flanagan in ''a room full of ghosts''. The 45-year-old paranormal investigator would like to watch the former 'Coronation Street' actress squirm and squeal as she's put in a room on her own with spirits. Speaking exclusively to Bang Showbiz, she said: ''It'd be quite good to get her on 'Most Haunted', I could put her in a room full of ghosts and leave her there, that would be good.'' The pair clashed on 'Celebrity Super Spa' in the summer when Yvette branded the busty model a ''spoilt little diva'', but she insists she doesn't regret...

Yvette Fielding almost quit 'Most Haunted' for good after being left a ''nervous wreck'' from ghosts playing tricks on her. The 45-year-old paranormal investigator lost weight from anxiety after she was a victim of freak occurrences while filming the show, which included spirits moving all the chairs in her kitchen and scattering her children's clothes around her house. God bless Lovefilm, they seem to know what their customers want and act accordingly.
Every time the summer holidays or half term roll around they add a bunch of kids entertainment and now as we are in October and it’s coming up to Halloween they add a whole load of horror films for your viewing pleasure.
Cinema distributors could learn a thing or two from this model, exactly how many horror films are being released in cinemas this Halloween? Oh that’s right only one, The Haunting in Connecticut 2, which doesn’t even make sense as its set in Georgia.
Django Unchained (2012)
Quentin Tarantino’s most recent film is not his best as some have claimed. Tarantino really milks people’s love of his dialogue in the mid-section which means that the pace drags massively for about 30 minutes. It’s not like in Inglorious Basterds where the pace of...

For a television institution as big and sprawling as Doctor Who, it can be expected that over its long half-a-century history, many ideas for episodes or spin-off series or even film adaptations didn’t make it to the screen for various reasons.
Examples include a potential episode written by Stephen Fry set in the 1920s, Century House, a script by Tom Mcrae that would have seen the Doctor take part in a ‘Most Haunted’ ghost-hunting type programme and even an animated series based on the show was considered in the 90s. However, those are the stories that never were on this list of Stories That Never Were.
Now, let’s look at the stories that were. Are. Whatever.
Honorable Mention – Shada
In this list I will only be looking at unmade stories that not only failed to make it onto TV but also were never picked up by writers in other medias.

In March 1963, a black mass was held at a ruined church in Clophill, Bedfordshire by a coven of dark witches. Tombs were looted, animals sacrificed and human bones arranged during a macabre ceremony. Further defilements continued at Clophill in the following years, with cattle in nearby fields found mutilated, evidence of necromancy discovered and perpetual sightings of paranormal activity witnessed at the isolated ruin. Fifty years on from the original incident, the Clophill legend remains etched on the psyches of the local populace. In 2010, a documentary team was assembled to investigate the legend of the Clophill witches and to try and uncover the truth behind the paranormal events.

Without doubt, British TV has produced some of the finest shows in the history of television. However, after focusing solely on the best of the best for the last three years, I decided it was time to acknowledge some of the stinkers. The following TV turkeys are remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Most Haunted
People love ghost stories and pratically every pub, school and manor house in England is supposedly haunted by at least one unsettled soul. Blue Peter presenter Yvette Fielding attempted to shed light on the nations ghouls in the Sky Living documentary series Most Haunted. Despite the best efforts of Fielding and a crack team of paranormal investigators, the show did very little boost the claims of hauntees. Episodes typically involved groups of people skulking around darkened rooms until a creaking floorboard or a gust of wind sent them packing.

This is like a punchline to a bad joke.
Derek Acorah, a psychic who gained notoriety for his work on the TV show "Most Haunted," had to cancel a June 8 show in Scotland due to "unforeseen circumstances."
According to his website, the 63-year-old Englishman specializes in communicating with the dead as a "medium." His skills, apparently, do not extend to seeing his own future.
Acorah's agent, Brian Shaw, said the language on the cancellation notice had been written by officials at the venue, not by Acorah himself, Upi reports.
"Why the theater ... used the words 'unforeseen circumstances' I don't know," Shaw said. "You couldn't make it up -- it's an old music hall joke... It made more sense to [push back the performance]... due to the other upcoming dates on Derek's tour and for personal reasons."
The show was booked as part of Acorah's Eternal Spirits Tour.
Acorah isn't the only psychic to get flak for a canceled performance.

"It's 1974. You're the assistant".
While the internet bubbles with a generous dose of negativity towards the current run of Doctor Who, the show itself continues to get on with the job, and also continues, for our money at least, to impress. That's with the caveat this week that we could have lived without the last two minutes or so of Neil Cross' otherwise really impressive Hide. So if it's okay with you, we'll get that ending out of the way first, as there's nerd gold to explore after that.
In days of old on Doctor Who, the Tardis would have dematerialised and things would have finished once the foe of the episode had apparently been defeated.

Hide takes Doctor Who series 7 to 1970s Britain, and a creepy old house. Here's our spoiler-free review...
We're back on Earth in the latest Doctor Who, this time heading to the 70s, without any British comics or particularly catchy singles to establish the era this time around. But then tonally, Hide is a much quieter story than we've had this series, and it's a marked contrast with writer Neil Cross' other adventure, The Rings Of Akhaten.
If we've got our chronology right, Cross delivered the draft of Hide first, and it's a good episode, this. At heart, it's a haunted house story, something Doctor Who has good form on. The Doctor and Clara arrive at said house, to find its inhabitants - played by Dougray Scott and Jessica Raine - staging their own, pre-Living TV interpretation of Most Haunted.

An episode of Most Haunted - featuring psychic Derek Acorah becoming 'possessed' - could have spooked children when it aired on Sky's Pick TV channel in the early evening last year, Ofcom has ruled.
Broadcast on October 17 at 6pm, the episode saw the Most Haunted team investigating Chatham Dockyard in Kent, where there had been been sightings of so-called "malevolent spirits" and "dark evil shadows".
The programme featured descriptions of various spirits, including a headless drummer boy, duelling cavaliers, a grey lady with no feet who hovered, and the ghost of one of the port's commissioners, Peter Pett, who was later killed in the Tower of London.
At one stage, Acorah suddenly became "possessed", supposedly by the spirit of a soldier, and he then spoke in a gruff deep voice and identified himself as Richard Neville, before collapsing.
During a later seance, Acorah was again "possessed", this time by a 9-year-old boy called Barney Little,...

No joke: One Direction's Harry Styles - or Taylor Swift's most recent ex-boyfriend as some of you might know him - was recently accused of sending text messages of a sexual nature to a friend's mother. Yvette Fielding, who is mom to an old friend of Harry's (and former presenter of the UK's "Most Haunted"), interviewed with Woman magazine, where she talked about one night when she and her family and Harry went out to dinner, and Harry began the virtual equivalent of sticking his foot in her crotch under the table: he began sending her racy text messages, or, if you're under the age of seventeen, Sexts. Here's what Yvette had to say to Woman: "The last time I saw him we went for a Chinese – his mum and her partner, Robin, plus me and my husband, Karl. Harry was sending me disgusting texts from across the table.

Back in 1992, in the halcyon days before Paranormal Activity, The Blair Witch Project and Most Haunted, the BBC used Michael Parkinson to terrify the nation in a one-off TV special called Ghostwatch. Viewers were invited to watch as real-life presenters including Sarah Greene and Craig Charles investigated the spooky goings on in ‘Britain’s most haunted house’ in the hopes of either a few cheap thrills (mostly provided by a hammily hateable Charles) or the uncovering of a hoax, but over 90 minutes they got a hell of a lot more.
Let’s get the bad out of the way first: Ghostwatch has not been treated well by either time or a DVD release. The twenty years since its first broadcast have seen a meteoric rise and fall of found-footage films...

As someone who lives in San Diego, I've been curious about the reaction of the real Whaley House toward The Asylum's recently released The Haunting of Whaley House, and let's just say it's not good.
San Diego City Beat did a little digging and learned the following:
The basic plot of the Whaley House [film] follows a group of teens who sneak into the titular house and get murdered, one-by-one, by the vengeful ghost of Thomas Whaley and the other spirit of Whaley lore, Yankee Jim. As the body count rises, so does the tension—hence this amazing line of dialogue: “This house is haunted as fuck,” which is said not once, but twice in the movie. (Other great lines include: “Now they’re fucking possessing us! I’ve had it with this shit!” and the simple-but-effective “Fuck you, ghost!”)
You don’t need to go on the educational, non-haunted-as-fuck tour...

Poltergeist, the near-perfect suburban horror movie, is getting the Hollywood remake treatment. But should it be left alone? Rob takes a look…
Sam Raimi, a geek hero who bought us The Evil Dead (and of course Hercules and Xena) is still a fan favourite. But as time progresses, the pioneering filmmaker is taking more of a back seat and evolving into a respected producer, overseeing and using his knowledge to assist up and coming filmmakers, directors and writers.
His decision to nurture a new breed of horror directors is commendable, and working with people like Diablo Cody on a new take on The Evil Dead is a (potentially) interesting move, but really, why do we need remakes of already superb films? We should all thank Mr Raimi for his efforts, but like most fanboys, I was up in arms when I first heard about the decision to remake The Evil Dead.

Few things are more important when it comes to building expectations for a movie than the title itself. While every aspect of a production – from the actors, to the director, or even a costume designer – can pique our particular interest in an upcoming movie, often it’s the title which will first form part of our decision over whether or not a film appeals to us.
Most of us realise that film titles don’t have to be as gratuitously up front as say Snakes On A Plane or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but it’s still often a surprise when something with such a seemingly literal title can often give us the completely wrong idea. When we walk into a video store with the urge to watch something new, it’s the title – or cover art – which will form our initial idea of what the film could be like.
