Las Vegas is getting a big slice of Giada De Laurentiis. The Food Network celebrity chef, known for her fun and delicious Italian meals, is hard at work preparing for the opening of her very first restaurant in Vegas. "It's so exciting. I have been like over the moon since March when I knew," the Everyday Italian author told Marc Malkin at the Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival. "It's a huge adventure for me." Her newest business venture will be no easy task. "It's a big restaurant. It's 350 seats," Giada said. "I've never had a restaurant ever, so it's a huge endeavor." But no matter what happens, the excited chef is savoring the...

Finding the next "Food Network Star" is a new game for Giada De Laurentiis.
The chef who hosts "Giada at Home" and "Everyday Italian" now has more of a contest to choose an aspiring cooking personality for his or her own show, as the Food Network competition continues its eighth season Sundays. As are fellow returnee Bobby Flay and new cast addition Alton Brown, she's coaching a group in culinary challenges that will winnow the contenders down to one.
"It has really upped the stakes for us and made us emotionally invested in these people," De Laurentiis says of the new format. "Whoever wins, that mentor will produce that winner's show, so we have a lot involved in this."
And that's fine with De Laurentiis. "Actually, I had asked Food Network at the end of last season to change the game a bit," she reports. "I really felt like I was a talking head,...

Giada De Laurentiis is a celebrity in her own right, and she feels she owes it in large part to her ancestors in the entertainment world.
The Food Network and Cooking Channel personality is the granddaughter of the late film producer Dino De Laurentiis, whom she says "made something like over 600 movies in 60 years" including "Serpico," "Death Wish" and the Jessica Lange-introducing 1976 remake of "King Kong." And actress Silvana Mangano, who starred in such epics as "Ulysses" and "Barabbas," was her maternal grandmother.
"Honestly, when the show 'Everyday Italian' started, I wanted to shoot it like Grandfather shot movies," De Laurentiis explains to Zap2it, "and really tell a story from beginning to end. The cinematography, the lighting and everything else in that show really set me up for what I have today, and I don't think I would have had that knowledge had I not come...

We can all agree that Food Network has changed over the years, right? What was once a network filled with shows that taught you how to cook (oh, I still miss Sara Moulton's 'Cooking Live' so, so much) has turned into a channel with more competition and reality shows than shows that teach you anything.
Sure, there are still many shows on the network that show you how to create a meal -- '30 Minute Meals,' 'The Barefoot Contessa,' 'Everyday Italian' and others -- but the other shows get all the attention. There's a lot of great stuff on Food Network (as Allison Waldman noted in her list of 10 best Food Network shows), but also a lot of terrible stuff.
Here are my choices for the very worst of the worst shows on Food Network. I'm not sure what you might be surprised by more though,...

Giada De Laurentiis, known for her easy grin and approachable Italian cooking on Food Network, isn't smiling following rumors spread by a tabloid.
The celebrity chef is firmly denying the Star's story that she was seen being cosy with musician John Mayer in New York. In fact, she wouldn't even consider them friends and was actually with her husband, Anthropologie designer Todd Thompson, during the weekend in question.
The full statement from De Laurentiis' rep:
"It is a shame a media outlet such as Star needs to rely on disgraceful lies and hide behind false anonymous 'sources' in order to entertain their readers.
"When the Star reporter approached Giada De Laurentiis on Sunday, while she was co-hosting a children's cancer fundraiser, Giada responded unequivocally that she did not see John Mayer when she was in New York for the Food and Wine Festival. Furthermore, contrary to the claims of an anonymous 'source,...

Food Network host Giada De Laurentiis is justifiably proud of her Emmy-winning work on her cooking show "Everyday Italian," but she still vividly recalls the day she busted her buttons for the network in a very different way.
"This was awhile ago, I think during the second season of 'Everyday Italian,' and we were trying to figure out the wardrobe for the show," De Laurentiis tells Zap2it. "I remember for a long time they wanted me to wear button-down shirts and things like that, but it's hard when you're cooking because it's just not that comfortable when you move around. I prefer some kind of T-shirt, comfortable and cotton, with no buttons."
But comfort wasn't the only issue on one particularly mortifying day.
"I was wearing this pretty tight button-down shirt and I bent down -- in those days the oven was down low, below the stove...

Last night’s episode of The Next Food Network Star reminded me a little of that old Avril Lavigne lyric: “Why’d ya have to go and make things so complicated?” From Noreen’s baffling culinary viewpoint to Dzintra’s schizophrenic party plate to adorable Brad’s peanut-roasted debacle, it seemed like contestants were tripping over their own self-erected obstacles at every turn. Except for Das, of course, who realized sometimes a lemon-pepper chicken wing is all a crowd of 100 partygoers really wants to eat. And Aarti (picured), whose ricotta pancake and winning personality scored a last-minute triumph over her irritating self-doubt.

It's going to be another season of looking for that lucky guy or gal who'll get his own series on the Food Network. As usual, Food Network executives Bob Tuschman and Susie Fogelson will be on board on the selection committee this season, and they'll be joined by Bobby Flay, a staple on the network. Debuting as mentor is Giada De Laurentiis of Giada at Home and Everyday Italian.

In the life I live when I close my eyes, Giada De Laurentiis is my girlfriend. We eat leftovers from tapings of Everyday Italian and watch the sunset from our beachside, open-air Malibu breakfast nook while discussing in English and a variety of broken romance languages how Batali and Paltrow need to learn to keep their revelry to a minimum. Yes, she makes me watch Big Night a little too often, and yes, we get in fights because she hardly ever cooks for me, but all that’s Ok because she’s the object of my deepest infatuation since I graduated Jr. High and stopped watching Singled Out. She’s perfect, though I can see someone (especially the savvy fanboy behind this site) make an argument that there are at least a couple aspects of Giada that could use improvement: 1) She uses too many ingredients when she cooks. 2) She’s wearing too much clothing.
