Sorry, Lauren Mascitti and Grace Leer, but “American Idol” only has room for one of you in Season 18. Last week viewers were tasked with voting one of these aspiring country singers into the Top 20, and we’ll all find out who received the most votes when the second “This Is Me” episode airs Sunday, April 19 on ABC. Think of it as the first official vote results episode of the 2020 cycle. This will also serve as the last episode of “American Idol” before the live shows, which have been indefinitely delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fox believes the children are the future. Fresh off the successful return of "MasterChef Junior" and the swift cancellation of "Utopia," Fox has learned a valuable lesson. Fox announced on Thursday (November 6) afternoon that "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" will be making a triumphant return to the network. With that in mind, we'd like to suggest to Fox that the network's $50 million investment in facilities for "Utopia" could be at least partially recouped by purchasing the format rights for "Kid Nation" and depositing a group of tykes out in the California desert. Or don't but the "Kid Nation" format. "Utopia Juniors" sells itself. But back to "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"... Produced by Mark Burnett and hosted by Jeff Foxworthy, "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" premiered on Fox in 2007 and the essentially self-explanatory format ran through 2009, with 80 episodes. The series also had a run in syndication.

One of the new faces for Cma Country Christmas was "Pretty Little Liars" star Lucy Hale, looking smashing in a bright red dress. She sang "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" for her solo number -- video above.
We'll replace it with better video when we have it. But either way, it sounds like Hale had a great time. She tweeted after the taping, "Well...that was crazy amazing. Thank you Cma Christmas for including me! I can't believe my life."
This is just the latest step on Hale's journey to break into the music business. She was an "American Juniors" contestant back in the day and will have a country album out in 2014.
How do you think she did?...

Tonight, Fox launches its latest reality experiment: Does Someone Have to Go?, where offices let employees take charge for 48 hours to decide the fate of fellow staffers and make overall recommendations for improvement. Billed as “Survivor meets The Office,” the project has been in the works at Fox for four years, with an early harsher draft of the concept drawing some controversy. Below, Fox’s president of alternative entertainment Mike Darnell discusses the kinder, gentler Does Someone Have to Go? (preview video below), as well as fall’s newly female-dominated X Factor panel and kid-contestant MasterChef spinoff.

"The Voice" could be getting a kids version. According to the New York Post, NBC is working on a "Voice" spinoff that would feature contestants between the ages of 8-14.
The Post reports that NBC is looking to film the kid version the same time as the regular adult "Voice" series, but don't expect it for Season 5.
"The Voice Kids" has already been done in Germany, Holland and Finland and Telemundo will launch "La Voz Kids" with both English and Spanish-speaking contestants.
American viewers will remember Fox's "American Juniors" series, a spinoff of "American Idol" that aired for only one season during the summer of 2003. "American Juniors" started off relatively strong in the ratings, but slipped throughout the summer. Fox had planned a second season, but eventually it. You've heard "Pretty Little Liars" star Lucy Hale sing in plenty of her film and TV projects -- after all, she got her start on the not-so-well-remembered Fox reality competition "American Juniors" -- but soon you'll be able to listen to a full-length album from the singer/actress on Hollywood Records.
"I can now share that I have recently been signed to Hollywood Records @HollywoodRecs ! I couldn't be more excited to share my music with you," she wrote on Twitter on June 12.
So, what can you expect from the album? "Its going to be diff from anything you've ever heard from the label and not what you'd expect from me. Thanks for the support," she writes.
Although that doesn't actually give any real idea of what Hale's music will sound like, Just Jared reports that the Memphis, Tenn. native is planning on going country on her album.

Sometimes I seriously question my obsession with American Idol. After all, there’s no other show on television that consistently causes spikes in my blood pressure — whether it’s from the blind fury I feel toward the show’s inept and inconsistent judging panel, the frustration I experience with its thoroughly uninspired theme nights and song lists, or the rolling rage of wondering things like “Where the frak is Pia Toscano’s finale duet?”
But Wednesday night’s Season 10 finale managed to dilute my cynicism, erase my grouchiness, and bring real human tears to my eyes. Call me a sentimental fool,...

Does the moppet to your left look familiar? If so, you might be one of the world’s rarest creatures — a fan of The Voice who’s also seen Kevin Smith’s 2003 flop Jersey Girl. Raquel Castro, the girl who starred in that film as the plucky daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s characters, resurfaced on the second episode of NBC’s singing sensation last night and ended up getting chosen to join Christina Aguilera’s team. As it turns out, Raquel is far from the only Voice contestant who had significant experience in show business before snagging a spot on the series.

One of my biggest fears in life is running out of food when I’m hosting a party. In the past, this overarching concern has spiraled out of control, resulting in industrial-sized batches of homemade salsa, entire refrigerator shelves devoted to housing containers of potato salad, and and grumbles from my husband about having to eat turkey burgers for a fortnight’s worth of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. But as I like to argue, at least you’ll never see one of our guests scrape the bottom of the bowl.
Unfortunately, the creators of NBC’s The Voice don’t share my particular neuroses.

Before we get into our review of "The Perfect Storm," allow us to say: thank you, Mrs. Hastings! We were beginning to wonder if the detective on Pretty Little Liars spent time anywhere except for school, a clear violation of the law, which no teacher or authority figure stepped in and said a word about - until now.
Aside from that important tidbit, this week's episode shed a lot of light on Emily, specifically her relationship with Alison. And while this is my least favorite of all the girls on the show, at least the revelations gave her character a bit more depth. At least her affection for girls now has a history and doesn't seem utterly out of the blue with Maya, as it had been up to this point.
The question, of course: do we believe her?...

In "The Perfect Storm," we have the "Pretty Little Liars" trapped in school because of a bad storm -- and the storm hits the fan for Emily.
How great were all the girls when Emily got pushed to the brink and admitted that she liked Alison as more than a friend? What an awesome storyline.
The SATs were a great way to get Alex into the dramatic storm-locks-us-in storyline and the Mrs. Hastings-Alex resolution was unexpected and nice. She is also awesome when she goes all bad-ass lawyer on Det. Wilden.
Who is noticing the literary references that popped up in A's messages? Spencer got "Tom Sawyer" last week, Emily got "Great Expectations" this week. Are they trying to throw our suspicion to Ezra Fitz the English teacher? Hmmm.
Lucy Hale had a great moment when she sang while Brant Daugherty played the guitar. She told us she's still in...

"Pretty Little Liars" only has two episodes left before it goes on its mid-season hiatus. The penultimate episode is "The Perfect Storm," where the classic TV convention of a storm trapping the characters in various situations leads to big drama.
For Aria (Lucy Hale), it means being trapped with her new hottie Noel (Brant Daugherty). So what better way to pass the time than to sing? Hale, a finalist on "American Juniors" in 2003 (she's still in touch with her co-stars), flexes her golden pipes on Eva Cassidy's "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" while Daugherty shows off his guitar skills.
Just as they are about to kiss, who is walking in? Is it Mr. Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding), who has been Mia since Homecoming? We certainly hope so.
Meanwhile, Officer Wilden (Bryce Johnson) is still giving the girls a hard look as he investigates Ali's murder. What is Emily lying about?...

"American Idol" made a fatal flaw Tuesday night during its Denver audition show. No, not by inviting back Victoria Beckham as a guest judge. (The Poshbot-2000 was actually pretty engaging this episode. She must have been rewired since the premiere.) "Idol" producers erred by reminding viewers of Daughtry's classic Denver audition right at the top of the show. Nothing in the remaining 59 minutes of "Idol" would come close to that star-making moment.

Throughout the episode, Seacrest kept shouting at viewers in voice-overs touting Denver as one of the most promising cities yet. But the proof wasn't in the pudding we saw. Instead we had Nicci Nix, a girl who...

On Wednesday, when Britney Spears announced the opening acts for the forthcoming North American dates of her Circus Tour, seeing Ciara's name wasn't a surprise: The "Goodies" singer opened Brit's recent London dates. But less familiar is the name of the other opening act, Kristinia Debarge, who — although she has a fast-rising hit with her debut single "Goodbye" (which samples Steam's 1969 hit "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" and is also featured in Nivea commercial) and comes from a family with a solid legacy in R&B — is a new artist.
Kristinia, 19, is the daughter of James DeBarge, keyboardist and a founding member of long-running R&B group DeBarge. According to her MySpace page, Kristinia had wanted to sing since the age of 3, but finally...

Hillard, 19, stars in the new Wayans Brothers' comedy, Dance Flick, which opens Friday, and plays a "very effeminate version of Zac," he tells People. Born in California, but raised in Arizona, Hillard started acting when he was 10 years old but got his first break on the American Idol spin-off American Juniors when he was 13. "I thought that was the highlight of my career," he says of the gig, which got him an L.

The new Fox drama The O.C. posted solid numbers in its third outing Tuesday. NBC won the night by a wide margin with help from the 8-10 p.m. Shania Twain: Up concert special and the 10 p.m. repeat of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which gave NBC the nightly win with an average of 9 million viewers and 3.3 rating/10 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. The Twain special built slowly but surely throughout its two-hour slot, starting out with 8 million viewers at 8 p.m. and finishing out with 9.4 million in the 9:30-10 p.m. half-hour. CBS won the opening hour of primetime with Big Brother 4 averaging 8.8 million viewers and 3.6/12 in the demo. At 9 p.m. however, CBS' Cupid (6.6 million, 2.9/8) didn't have much traction against Fox's The O.C., which delivered an average of 7.9 million viewers and 3.5/10 in adults 18-49 to Fox. That marked a big leap from its 8 p.m. American Juniors lead-in (5.2 million, 1.9/6). ABC ran fourth for the night (6.2 million, 2.2/7) with an 8-10 p.m. comedy block of reruns leading into an NYPD Blue rerun.

NBC prevailed in total viewers (7.7 million) for the night thanks to the Miss Teen USA pageant, which started off sluggishly but built throughout its 8-10 p.m. time slot (7.2 million, 2.5/8) and the 10 p.m. Law & Order: SVU rerun (8.7 million, 3.0/9). ABC trailed its Big Four competitors (6.5 million, 2.4/7) with an 8-10 p.m. comedy rerun block followed by 10 p.m. NYPD Blue.

TORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster Chum Ltd. said Monday that its viewers will be feasting on U.S. reality series next season in a bid to draw viewers away from rivals CTV Inc. and CanWest Global Communications Corp. Meanwhile, Canadian national network CTV told domestic advertisers that it will add five new U.S. series to a fall 2003-04 schedule that already features eight of the past season's top 10 series -- all U.S. product. At the recent Los Angeles Screenings, Toronto-based CTV picked up American Juniors, the kiddie version of American Idol; NBC Prods.' Whoopi; Warner Bros.' Cold Case; Nip/Tuck from FX; and Sony Pictures TV's Joan of Arcadia. Chum, releasing its 2003-04 broadcast schedule in Toronto, said it will feature the following programs in September: The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Temptation Island, Joe Millionaire and the reality/comedy series The Jamie Kennedy Experiment.
Ryan Seacrest isn't going to take the summer off from his American Idol chores. Seacrest has been tapped to host American Juniors, the pint-sized version of Fox's talent competition series that is set to premiere Tuesday. In keeping with the pattern set on Idol, the Juniors series will start with two weeks of hourlong audition episodes. Audience voting will begin with the June 17 episode. "Ryan Seacrest has proven time and again that he is one of the premier hosts in variety television," said Fox Broadcasting Co. president Gail Berman, who also called Seacrest the "face of 'American Idol.' " Fox has high hopes for the kiddie version of Idol. After the summer edition of the show wraps in mid-August, Fox is counting on viewers returning in the fall for a second edition of Juniors slated to air in the 8 p.m. Tuesday slot as part of its fall season launch. In addition to his hosting duties, Seacrest is developing a daytime talk show for Fox's Twentieth Television syndication arm that is targeted to premiere in January. Seacrest also is heard weekdays as the host of the radio show Ryan Seacrest for the Ride Home on Los Angeles' KYSR 98.7 FM.
