Violence & Gore

  • A little girl falls from a ladder into a water tank (we see her floating under the surface of the water and the front of her shirt appears to be stained red); a woman looks into the water, sees the body, turns it over, the girl's eyes open and the woman falls off of the ladder.
  • Torrents of water pour down onto a woman and when it stops we see her dead on the floor.
  • A woman pounds and kicks at a door to get to her daughter, who is in the bathtub; when she breaks the door down, she sees a girl in the tub holding another girl under the water, trying to drown her.
  • A woman fills a glass of water and a lock of hair comes out of the faucet and into her glass.
  • A little girl's arm is jerked around while she is painting, she yells at someone to stop it, she goes to the bathroom to wash up, and brown water begins to pour from all of the taps: the toilets overflow, she sees the silhouette of a girl at the door, she screams and runs into a stall, she sees the shoes and socks of a girl outside the door, and she screams and we hear that she fainted.
  • Dark, oozing stains appear on the ceiling of a room, they drip dark water and spread -- this happens in many scenes.
  • A woman does laundry and the washing machine begins to thump and bang; the woman goes close to the machine and sees a girl's face inside the washer, she screams and black water pours out of the machine.
  • We hear that a little girl has fainted at school in toilet water from clogging in the bathroom, and her mother begins to panic.
  • A woman alone on an elevator feels something taking her hand.

  • A woman has flashbacks to her mother's verbally abusive treatment.
  • A little girl stands in the rain waiting for her mother to pick her up from school.

Profanity

  • A man swears in Russian: "blyad" (which means "fuck"); the man implies that a woman's "crazy Russian husband was always blyad" (fucking, having sex) in an apartment.
  • Uses of "fuck", "piss", "Russki", "asshole", "shit", "bitch", "goddamned" (at one point said aloud in the presence of a child character), and "god/oh my god".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • "Wacky tobaccy" is said once (slang term for marijuana).
  • A child asks her father not to smoke because it's bad for him. He promises to stop.
  • Dahlia's mother is said to be an abusive alcoholic; in flashbacks we see her vomiting into a toilet bowl, and it is later said that she abandoned her daughter. Mrs. Rimsky, the Russian woman living in Apartment 10F, is also said to be an alcoholic who went in for treatment. We see alcohol bottles in background scenes of 10F.
  • A man smokes cigarettes in several scenes.
  • A woman finds a cigarette butt in front of her door.
  • A woman takes prescription drugs for migraine headaches.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Reoccurring themes of divorce and custody dispute, a husband possibly gaslighting his ex-wife, which may upset some viewers, especially where a young child is involved.
  • Many exterior shots and scenic transitions featuring rainy days, dilapidated 1970's buildings, smokestacks, dreary lobbies, and stained walls, coupled with creepy background music, which may frighten some viewers.
  • Scenes frequently appear of apparently rotting water, dark brown, at times flooding whole rooms or leaking from the ceiling; at one point, moldy water drips onto Dahlia's face while she sleeps. It ruins Cecilia's bed. The scenes are quite disgusting and may bother/gross out some viewers.
  • Cecilia's interactions with Natasha are quite unnerving; at first it is cute, but then Cecilia is antagonized by Natasha repeatedly, and the grown-ups around her begin to believe that she has a mental disorder. Cecilia is almost drowned by Natasha. We also see disturbing scenes such as Natasha getting Cecilia into trouble at school. Cecilia is visibly upset by it.
  • Dahlia has frequent migraines triggered by an abusive childhood. She is seen pacing around the room, wincing as a throbbing noise plays in the background.
  • The film features a number of jump scares, flashback scenes and pop-ups which may upset some viewers.
  • The film features child abuse and neglect; a little girl, left behind in a derelict apartment by both her parents, drowns after climbing a water tower affixed to the rooftop. The maintenance man discovers the body but chooses not to report it because he accidentally left the water tower lid open. Dahlia's mother is also physically and verbally abusive.
