Southland Swing is another Soundie I enjoyed watching on YouTube
Just watched this Soundie on YouTube. It features an all-female band called The Swing Sirens playing a Big Band version of Stephen Foster's "Swanee River (Old Folks at Home)" which would later be accompanied by The Janette Hackett Girls. That's basically all that happens during the entire 3-minute short but it's fascinating watching these early music videos that were filmed during the '40s meant to play on Panorams (movie jukeboxes displayed in various restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and train or bus stations). Quite entertaining stuff that I can watch all day if I have the time. We can thank sites like the one I mentioned at the beginning of this review for the opportunity. So on that note, Southland Swing is well worth a look.
