"Don't give up on him" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a very dark, emotional drama series titled Eric, the latest creation from award-winning British writer Abi Morgan. Set for a streaming debut on Netflix later in May. Vincent, a grief-stricken father whose son goes missing, finds solace through his friendship with Eric, the monster that lives under Edgar's bed. It's set in NYC in the 1980s and features "puppets...lots of puppets." Netflix's Eric mini-series stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Gaby Hoffmann, and McKinley Belcher III. It follows the desperate search of a father when his nine year old son disappears one morning on the way to school. "As Vincent’s progressively destructive behaviour alienates his family, his work colleagues, and the detectives trying to help him, it’s Eric, a delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally in the pursuit to bring his son home." It’s beautiful how movies can take us back to an innocent time. A perfect example is the absolute adoration of Jim Henson’s classic features, The Dark Crystal (1982) and Labyrinth (1986). For many, growing up on The Muppets and Sesame Street brought a level of excitement for both of these features. Even still, while Crystal made a decent showing at the box office, audiences weren’t ready for Labyrinth upon its release. Now, however, both films have found themselves well-loved and admired. So much so that both are getting the 4K treatment, and you can stream them immediately.

A sequel to Robert Zemeckis’ 2004 animated Christmas film The Polar Express is being looked at, although nothing is yet confirmed.
Almost 20 years after its release, Robert Zemeckis’ animated Christmas film The Polar Express could be on the cusp of getting a sequel, as one of the film’s producers, Gary Goetzman, has revealed he’s trying to get a follow-up underway.
Speaking to Comicbook.com, Goetzman referenced a couple of films he’s produced before dropping an interesting nugget regarding the future of The Polar Express. (The following quotes are lightly edited for clarity.)
“I’d love to [do The Polar Express 2]. I’d love to do a sequel of Where The Wild Things Are. There’s a lot of the things that we’ve done, if it established itself [and] studios want another one. That’s the way it goes. I’m up for Mamma Mia 3, man. That would be a ball to do right about now.

When you think of your favorite children's books, you might fondly recall getting lost in a Dr. Seuss adventure or your parents reading you "Goodnight, Moon." "Treasure Island" might come to mind, or if you're an Brit like myself, perhaps a delightful bedtime adventure with the "Famous Five." Well, it seems the next generation can look forward to something altogether more unsettling because Ridley Scott's seminal 1979 effort "Alien" is now being made into a children's book.

One of the best decisions the creatives behind Blumhouse's "Five Nights at Freddy's" film adaptation (read /Film's review) made was hiring Jim Henson's Creature Shop to manufacture its merrily murderous mascot animatronics as real-life puppets and not CGI creations. Both the movie and the original video games take place at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a Chuck E. Cheese-style family entertainment center populated by giant animatronics who like to sneak around and murder people under the cover of night. It would be one thing if Mr. Fazbear and his friends were obviously computer-animated in the film. But the fact they're as tactile as the flesh-and-blood humans they're stalking makes the horror of the situation that much more immediate and perceptible.

The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.
Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:
The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

Anthony Hopkins wants you to be a mensch.
The two-time Oscar winner is the grandfather-with-gravitas in James Gray’s Awards contender “Armageddon Time.” The memoir-ish movie, set in Queens, New York in the 1980s, already received accolades at its debut in Cannes this summer. It heads into the autumn Awards season looking strong.
Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong are the working class Jewish parents to the Gray stand-in, played by newcomer Banks Repeta. (Not since Max Records in “Where The Wild Things Are” has a child actor had such a child actor name!) Jaylin Webb is the kid’s African-American school chum, with whom he gets into some prankish trouble that sends the Repeta character to a different school.
No 12-year-old should have to confront the violent act Blaze (Julia Savage) witnesses seven minutes into the imaginative empowerment story that bears her name. But Blaze is no ordinary girl, and fine artist-turned-filmmaker Del Kathryn Barton’s “Blaze” reflects that, using a dazzling combination of digital and practical effects to represent the interior world of a survivor who has long relied on make-believe to cope with an overwhelming world.
Produced by Australian elevated-horror shingle Causeway Films (“The Babadook”), “Blaze” marks the feature directing debut of a distinctive new voice, and though there’s a certain woodenness to the narrative, the visuals — glitter dreams of a 10-foot fuchsia dragon — radiate with originality. In the film’s prologue, we meet Blaze as a toddler, seated before a wall of Barton’s psychedelic paintings: five panels depicting nude goddesses entwined with radiant birdlike creatures. The artwork is colorful but unclear, though it’s...

Exclusive: Deadline has the first exclusive track from Carter Burwell’s Oscar-shortlisted score for The Tragedy of Macbeth, which is set for release tomorrow via Milan Records, as the film from director Joel Coen premieres globally on Apple TV+.
Coen’s take on William Shakespeare’s classic 17th century play Macbeth watches as Denzel Washington’s Scottish lord is convinced by a trio of witches that he will become the next King of Scotland, subsequently conspiring to seize power with the help of his wife, Lady Macbeth (Frances McDormand).
It’s the latest project to emerge from a career-spanning partnership between Burwell and Coen, dating back to 1984, which has seen the former score almost all of the latter’s films including Raising Arizona, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men and True Grit.

Photo: ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ Introduction ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ is not your typical children’s movie. The film, directed by Spike Jonze of ‘Jackass’ and music video fame, is based on the book of the same name by Maurice Sendak. The book, originally published in 1963, is considered by many to be a childhood staple. With a legacy like this, the film was expected to be a huge hit in 2009. When the film premiered, though, with its darker mood and tone, it left audiences a little baffled. Audiences and critics didn’t know how to take a children’s film that was so dreary in tone, a children’s film that was so serious. While a good deal of may see ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ as a gritty adaptation of a children’s book, the film is an imaginative portrayal of what it is like to be a child.

Living in the digital age certainly has its perks. We are being spoiled with instant gratification that comes in many forms. We can now easily complete tasks by just a few clicks on our gadgets, we can easily communicate with friends and families living across the world as long as we have stable internet connection, and we don’t have to carry a bulky wallet around – all thanks to cashless payment systems. The science-fiction romantic drama, Her, which was directed by Spike Jonze (Where the Wild Things Are) shares a similar situation, as it tackles an alternate reality where artificial

Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran from 1997-2003 with 144 total episodes. Although it cannot be said that every single episode was flawless–“Bad Eggs” and “Where the Wild Things Are” come to mind–this series clearly deserves it’s consistent rankings as one of the greatest of all time. Buffy was an amazing supernatural series, but every viewer knows that it was the excellent writing, filled with metaphorical insights about growing up, becoming an adult, and loss, that made the series so great. Lists are always fun, and allow fans to rank the best parts of a wider piece of influential art. With

Billie Eilish hasn’t been famous for very long, but when you see her in “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry,” R.J. Cutler’s two-hour-and-20-minute but never boring documentary hang-out movie, you see why she’s already the quintessential pop star of the 21st century.
The film, which shows you more or less everything you want to know about Billie Eilish (it drops on Feb. 26 on Apple TV Plus), might be described as fan service of a high order. Since I’m a fan, though, I’d put it differently. I’d call it a deftly sincere and canny portrait, one that works precisely because it takes the time to sweat the small stuff: Billie hanging out at home with her parents, who are eager and supportive and very cool; Billie flashing her dimples and having fun like the precocious teenager she is; Billie passing her driving test and getting her dream car,...

"She's curious, that's all... And the forest is a magical place." While developing her next projects, Chinese-American filmmaker Lulu Wang (director of The Farewell) has partnered with Apple to create a new short film shot entirely on the iPhone. Titled Nian, the film was made on the iPhone 12 Pro Max by Apple. Wang could not travel, so she directed it while a crew in China filmed. A Chinese New Year legend reimagined as a contemporary coming-of-age story. Nian tells the story of a brave young girl’s determination to find — and confront — the widely feared Nian beast. When she comes face to face with him, she discovers that Nian is not at all terrifying and the two strike up a beautiful friendship. It's kinda a Chinese take on Where the Wild Things Are, with some nods to My Neighbor Totoro (and Okja). With an original score by Alex Weston. For...

Oscar-winning animator and Scad Savannah Film Festival honoree Glen Keane knew he wanted to be an artist from a young age. The evidence is right there in the archives of his father Bil Keane’s daily newspaper comic, “The Family Circus.”
You see, Glen served as an inspiration for 7-year-old Billy, who would, from time to time, step in to scribble a few installments of the beloved single-panel strip. In reality, those crudely drawn “guest” entries were daddy’s invention, although it’s true that Glen displayed an early interest in art, and the encouragement from both parents set him on the course that would make him responsible for some of the best-loved animated characters of the last half-century.
During his run at Disney, Keane served as supervising animator for Ariel in “The Little Mermaid,” the Beast in “Beauty and the Beast” and the title characters in “Aladdin” and “Tarzan.

With Lovecraft Country still providing HBO and HBO Max with its horror content through October, the streamer is looking elsewhere for its spooky season offerings. HBO Max’s new releases for October 2020 feature some truly awesome horror library titles.
Jordan Peele’s Us, John Carpenter’s The Thing, and David Fincher’s Se7en all arrive on Oct. 1. That alone should be enough to last you through spooky season. And if it doesn’t, It: Chapter Two is right there as well. The original stars of CBS’s popular series “Dukes of Hazzard” are speaking their mind about the recently renewed criticism of the show’s use of the Confederate flag.
John Schneider and Tom Wopat, who played Bo and Luke Duke in the series which ran from 1979 to 1985, addressed the controversial symbol of the Confederacy that is painted atop the show’s famous car, a Dodge Charger nicknamed the General Lee.
“I have never had an African American come up to me and have any problem with it whatsoever,” Schneider, 60, said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “The whole politically correct generation has gotten way out of hand.”

Apple has signed an overall deal with The Maurice Sendak Foundation. Its streaming service, Apple TV+, is looking to extend its range of child-friendly entertainment, and the author’s work will be the focus of new shows and specials in the future, Deadline confirms.
Apple TV+ is already working with Sesame Workshop, Peanuts and The Jim Henson Company, but now Sendak’s popular books will also be explored for adaptation. His many works include In the Night Kitchen, Kenny’s Window, Very Far Away, The Sign on Rosie’s Door, The Nutshell Library and the seminal children’s classic Where the Wild Things Are. Sendak’s longtime cohort Arthur Yorinks is noted to be onboard any new project moving forward.

This is the first overall deal that the foundation has signed with any streaming service. Through the deal, Apple will work with Arthur Yorinks, a writer-director and longtime collaborator of Sendak’s, through his Night Kitchen Studios to develop projects inspired by Sendak’s works.
