Gallant Thief
boblipton10 June 2020
Philip Friend is Dick Turpin, the famous highwayman. He robs a stage where a butcher is carrying his daughter. Diane Hart, and a box containing two thousand pounds in dowry for her to marry a lord. Of course, the girl may not turn out to be what she is advertised as.

It's the sort of anhistorical nonsense that the movies have long enjoyed providing. The gallant highwayman was an invention of the London gutter press in the late 17th and early 18th century, when all sorts of fanciful hhighwaymen jostled shoulders with Robin Hood and similar silliness. Clearly the movies' taste for this sort of fare did not originate with the nickelodeon.
