Film record of a race car
tforbes-21 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Lance Reventlow takes the spotlight here as the race driver of his own race car, the Scarab. This early 1960s documentary shows the son of Barbara Hutton trying to break his own track record in his practice session.

This low-key documentary is a pretty cool artifact from a period of time in Grand Prix motor racing. For me, there is some irony, because Mr. Reventlow was married to actress Jill St. John at the time. When she filed for divorce in late 1962, she contended that Mr. Reventlow had "bullied her into taking part in dangerous sports." Nearly eight minutes into the film, we do see him spin his car, so that may or may not have been what she referred to.

In any event, Lance Reventlow is the star in this documentary. And in a final irony, it was a plane crash in 1972 that ended his life. A skilled pilot, he was a passenger in a plan piloted by a student pilot that crashed in Colorado, where his ex-wife, now married to Robert Wagner, lives.

For racing fans and nostalgia fans, definitely worth a watch.
