Decent promotional short
Woodyanders29 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This merely adequate promo documentary offers a fairly interesting behind-the-scenes glimpse at the making of the third "Dirty Harry" movie "The Enforcer." We see director James Fargo in action, Clint Eastwood directly involved in how all the scenes should be played, assorted crew members doing their jobs, and find out that Eastwood often performs his own usually strenuous and occasionally pretty dangerous stunts. Moreover, we watch as both the liquor store robbery sequence and a scene at a hospital are being filmed. Alas, at only six minutes this documentary proves to be way too short and thus provides a strictly cursory depiction of the whole filmmaking process. A longer running time and interviews with various cast and crew members would have certainly helped make this regrettably slight featurette more worthwhile and informative. Instead all we get is a narrator basically plugging the movie. As it is, it's okay, but overall nothing more than an acceptable piece of promo fluff.

Harry Callahan/Clint Eastwood: Something Special in Films (1976)

*** (out of 4)

This six minute promotional piece was originally made to build interest in THE ENFORCER, the third film in the Dirty Harry series. These vintage promotional pieces are always interesting to watch today just because it gives you the idea of how movies were sold during this era. The best thing about watching them today is that they're always full of wonderful behind-the-scenes footage including getting to see the director and cast members working on scenes. We get several great shots of Clint Eastwood on the set and going over a scene and talking about how he think it should play out. There are scenes of director James Fargo setting up a scene and making sure it looks real. Fans of THE ENFORCER will certainly enjoy getting to see some of this behind-the-scenes footage since it's really the only stuff we have available.
