Let’s get ready to litigaaaaate! WWE Superstar John Cena has been socked with a lawsuit by the Ford Motor Company, which maintains that the pro wrestler sold his high-dollar sports car in violation of his agreement with the company. According to Ford, Cena bought a 2017 Ford Gt, then flipped his vehicle shortly after taking delivery of it, despite his agreement with Ford to maintain ownership of the vehicle for 24 months, “making a “large profit” from the alleged resale. As I mentioned in the first part of my interview with wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista, I’ve been a big fan of the squared circle for about as long as I’ve loved horror movies, so when we had the chance to sit down and chat during the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, I couldn’t help but bring up the topic of his in-ring persona’s recent return to WWE in 2014.
For anyone who has followed the WWE and professional wrestling over the last few years, Bautista (or Batista, as he’s known whenever he’s working in the ring), it’s no secret that things went horribly awry once he made his triumphant return to WWE in the midst of the uprising of Daniel Bryan (a fan favorite who wasn’t being taken seriously by the company at that time). Bautista found himself caught in the middle of a lot of...

Cena only had his shoulder surgery on January 7, so to be back lifting weights so soon is impressive. He’s famed for fast recovery times, and this early indication is a positive one. Maybe he really could make it back before SummerSlam, and even WrestleMania can’t 100% be ruled out. You can bet a man as driven as Cena is still gunning for it. His “#nevergiveup” statement is a shoot for him.

WWE Superstar “Iron” Mike Sharpe died on Sunday in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario in Canada. He was 64. The former professional wrestler was discovered in his apartment, according to multiple media reports. He had been dealing with several health ailments recently including a back injury suffered in 2007, which largely confined him to a wheelchair. After growing up in California before moving to Canada, Sharpe wrestled all over the world, mostly for the then-World Wrestling Federation (now the WWE) and New Japan Pro Wrestling. John Cena has provided an update on his injury, revealing that his recovery may take some time.
Posting on Twitter, he said;
“Day 6 post operation. Movement is very good but because a giant chunk of cartilage was missing, this one may take a bit. #nevergiveup”.
This is bad news for WWE, and it sounds like Dave Meltzer was right when he said that Cena’s recovery will be six to nine months. Judging by the “this may take a bit” comment, it sounds like Cena could be out for the full nine months. The lack of cartilage is going to be a major issue, one that will also leave him susceptible to future injury.
His initial problem was a shoulder injury, with Meltzer reporting it as a torn labrum. It has been speculated that Cena may have suffered the injury due to his olympic style weightlifting.

Randy Orton needs neck surgery, Dave Meltzer reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. This means that he is going to be out far longer than first expected, as he needs to recover from his shoulder injury first.
The original shoulder issue was going to keep him out until after WrestleMania, but Meltzer now reports that the neck issue could create a worst case scenario of over a year out after the neck surgery. That means he’d be missing WrestleMania 33, it could even be a career ender.
It is all up in the air. WWE are hoping that it isn’t serious, that the neck surgery will just be to clear out bone chips. If the neck is in worse condition, then fusion will be necessary. Right now, it is thought that the fusion isn’t likely, but is a possibility.

Seth Rollins defeated John Cena at SummerSlam to take his United States Championship from him. Other than that one Jon Stewart assisted win, this rivalry between these two champions has almost exclusively favored Cena. Going into Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, Rollins needed to reach down deep into his bag of tricks to find some way to get the rare win over John.
After almost winning by cage escape but foiled by the Demon Kane, Rollins did have one extremely high risk move to try against Cena and it involved a Frog Splash from meteoric heights. As devastating as this spot would have been if it connected, it did not. That’s the problem when the moves get bigger and more dangerous, if a wrestlers fails in his or her attempt then it can result in their own undoing.

We’re firmly in the middle of prime ‘Wtf’ season now, at least in terms of WWE’s annual schedule. With WrestleMania firmly behind us, SummerSlam in the books, and a good four months to burn before the Royal Rumble, we’ve reached that part of the year when angles make a desperate grab for attention – often by getting downright weird.
A prime example is the current WWE Championship programme between Seth Rollins and Kane, which took another bizarro turn on this week’s edition of Smackdown. We also saw another convoluted twist in the tale of Team Pcb (a storyline which seems to be unfolding in reverse), a slew of questionable crowd signs, and the New Day…doing their usual thing.
Here are 21 of the strangest moments from this week’s Smackdown, starting with a peculiar twist on the classic “return from injury” trope – a return to injury.

It’s hard to believe that Sting had to wait so late into his professional wrestling career before he’d finally get a challenge for the top prize in WWE, but at Night of Champions this Sunday, that’s exactly what will happen. He faces off against dual champion Seth Rollins, a man who might be pretty tired when he enters the main event.
Also challenging Rollins for a title is none other than John Cena. Both of these two top matches have the chance to be the bout of the night and the common link is Seth Rollins. It’s impressive that WWE has so much faith in Seth but the extra ring time will no doubt be taxing.
Rollin’s double duty in both the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the U.S. Championship matches will drastically increase the likelihood that he winds up losing at least once.

According to WWE.com, John Cena will be making his return to NBC’s “Today Show” next week. The following release was issued today:
The Champ is back on “Today”! John Cena will co-host NBC’s hit morning show during the 9 a.m. Et hour on Wednesday, Sept. 16, with Willie Geist and Natalie Morales.
Cena returns to “Today” after two successful guest co-hosting stints during SummerSlam Week, when he surprised 500th wish kid Rocco, honored a deserving teen with the New York Yankees and even got in the “Today” show kitchen.
As mentioned in the release, Cena successfully appeared on the show two times as a guest host back in August during the week leading up to SummerSlam in Brooklyn. He generally came off well during the appearance, fitting in quite well alongside his co-hosts, if not even a bit quiet during his time on the NBC airwaves.

Randy Orton was written off television on this week’s Raw episode and will not be appearing at the WWE Night of Champions PPV on September 20, according to PWInsider.
During Monday’s episode, Orton was attacked by the Wyatt Family trio of Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman and Luke Harper. The reason for the attack was that he was seen talking to Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose prior to his match against Sheamus, which Orton won. It appeared as though the attack happened because Orton would team up with Reigns and Ambrose against the Wyatt Family. Apparently that’s not going to happen.
The report notes that a source within WWE Creative said that Orton isn’t figured into storyline plans for the next several weeks, which includes Night of Champions.

There is a rumour that Seth Rollins versus John Cena will be booked as the show closing main event at WWE Night Of Champions.
That would mean Rollins’ WWE Title match against Sting is the show opener.
The placement of Cena in the last match berth would hardly be surprising, but it will raise some eyebrows if the WWE Title and Sting are relegated to a curtain jerker capacity. Plus, surely WWE wouldn’t change the WWE Title in an opening match of a special.
Right now, nothing is a lock. Either match could be the main event, and the rumours going around are probably stemming from the internal booking conversations in WWE. They’re still making their mind up.

Following this week’s edition of Monday night Raw in Tampa, John Cena made his way down to the ring to team up with his most famous rival Randy Orton in a battle against WWE & Us Champion Seth Rollins as well as the Money in the Bank holder Sheamus.
As you might expect, Cena and Orton won the match to send the fans home happy. They each hit their finishing moves on Sheamus and ended the night celebrating together. The match apparently went about ten minutes.
Orton and Sheamus were both absent from Raw. It’s not known if they will be having another singles match at Night of Champions. Orton won their singles match at Battleground in July, then Sheamus won at SummerSlam in August, so WWE might do a third match to see who wins the feud. Fans don’t seem to be receptive to seeing it again.

WWE has already announced that Sting will open this week’s Raw. It will be the first time Sting delivers a promo on Raw since before WrestleMania, so it will be very interesting to hear what “The Vigilante” might say.
The first ever Rollins vs. Sting match is set for September 20 at WWE Night of Champions.

Last night, Jon Stewart — beloved liberal media icon — appeared for the first time on cable television since leaving behind the desk of "The Daily Show" three weeks ago. But he wasn't on a major news outlet, discussing issues of the day. Instead, he was on "Monday Night Raw," being confronted by professional wrestler/"Trainwreck" scene-stealer John Cena about the fact that the day before, during the WWE PPV event "SummerSlam," Stewart had run out in the middle of Cena's wrestling match and hit John Cena with a chair, thus sabotaging Cena's match and allowing the other guy to win. Read More: Review: 'The Daily Show With Jon Stewart' Made Jon Stewart Acknowledge Our Thanks Cena felt Stewart (who was officially at SummerSlam to serve as host) had transgressed, and so Cena sought justice in the form of what Cena refers to as an "attitude adjustment" — known to the...

Good luck finding your moment of zen now ... Jon Stewart -- whose old job was safely positioned behind a desk, never once attacked by a musclebound thug -- was powerslammed by John Cena last night ... hard. The former "Daily Show" host appeared on WWE's "Monday Night Raw" where he was confronted by Cena ... who was still pissed at Jon for hitting him with a steel chair at SummerSlam this weekend. They argued. Cena got mad.

Take that! Jon Stewart learned the hard way that you can't jam a chair into a WWE star’s stomach and get away with it! The former Daily Show star, who came out of retirement to host Sunday, Aug. 23's 2015 SummerSlam in Brooklyn, N.Y., nearly stole the show when he entered the ring during John Cena and Seth Rollins' match. As Us Weekly reported previously, the talk show host picked up a metal folding chair, and rammed the prop into Cena's stomach, rendering the Cenation leader just [...]...

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read if you haven’t watched “Monday Night Raw.”) After his chair-smashing appearance at WWE SummerSlam Sunday, Jon Stewart returned to the ring for “Monday Night Raw.” The former “Daily Show” host learned the hard way that every action has a reaction when WWE Superstar John Cena delivered a painful payback for smashing him with a steel chair the night before, by body slamming Stewart. Back at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Monday, Stewart promised to explain why he went after Cena during Sunday’s SummerSlam — going from host to participant to...

Jon Stewart's decision to break bad has had some very painful consequences. After his sneak chair attack on John Cena during Sunday's WWE SummerSlam, the former Daily Show host, and newest heel in wrestling, attempted to explain his mendaciousness on Monday Night Raw. The easiest statement to make regarding WWE’s Summerslam weekend at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY is that it was an unmitigated bell-to-bell success. The roster came ready to perform at a high level, and in many cases stars became superstars and legends made the most of their iconic statuses. Though yes, we can debate some of the finishes to certain matches until the cows come home, that’s not why we’re here.
It’s actually quite easy to say that there were 16 solid-to-amazing matches had in WWE this weekend between Nxt’s stellar Takeover event and WWE’s Summerslam. Thus, on the occasion of such an incredible occurrence, it may be wise to actually sit down and rank all sixteen of them, “worst” to best. While again, there are some things that aren’t quite clicking in WWE these days, the in-ring work of a...

With SummerSlam concluded, WWE are now embarking on their fall season towards Survivor Series. It is traditionally a minefield of critical and commercial disappointment, with past years being a snooze-fest before creative start to think towards WrestleMania.
Worryingly, it is also a period in which television ratings fall. When you consider that viewership is already in the gutter, things could get really ugly in the coming months. Pay per view performance has also been bad in this season, so Network subscriptions are also likely to fall.
Aware of all of that, WWE are surely preparing a strong line up of directions for the SummerSlam to Survivor Series period. This feature will take a look at some of the directions, and what could be main eventing the forthcoming major shows.

SummerSlam could have been the best show of the year. It had everything going for it: a marquee main event, a big WWE Championship match, celebrity involvement, and the flexibility allowed by a four hour running time. Unfortunately – and there’s no nice way of saying this – it sucked.
For a variety of reasons, SummerSlam failed to live up to its own lofty expectations. Predictably, much of the blame can lay at the feet of the booking team, rather than the actual performers. John Cena, Seth Rollins, and a whole host of others (including Stephen Amell!) turned in great performances. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the show fell flat.
Certain booking decisions were made with questionable goals in mind – none of which appeared to be the aim of making SummerSlam a good pay per view.
Here are ten reasons SummerSlam will be remembered as a huge disappointment.

From behind the desk of The Daily Show ... to wielding a chair in the WWE ring!
Jon Stewart took his role as host of WWE's SummerSlam 2015 to the next level on Sunday night, hopping into the Barclays Center ring in Brooklyn, New York, to attack U.S. champion (and Trainwreck star) John Cena.
The 52-year-old, who stepped down from The Daily Show after 16 years earlier this month, intervened during a championship match between Seth Rollins and Cena.
Stewart ran up into the ring, shocking fans by throwing a chair not at Rollins, with whom he's verbally sparred before, but instead at Cena.

Jon Stewart Had a Lot of (Fake) Fun at SummerSlam and, Even in Retirement, Is Still Everybody’s Hero
Jon Stewart's first post–Daily Show gig was almost as entertaining, and maybe even as controversial (depending on how dedicated of a wrestling fan you are), as some of his best Comedy Central work. The former satirical news-show host Sunday took to Brooklyn's Barclays Center, where he steered the WWE's SummerSlam ship and proved to be an adept handler of folding chairs. He appeared numerous times throughout the night (his son, too!) as the four-hour event's host, most notably patching things up with Seth Rollins and turning heel against John Cena. It looked like the comedian had a lot of fun being there, which makes it very fun to watch the Jon Stewart highlight reel (below, via Uproxx). Here he is doing his opening monologue: Here he is backstage having fun with his son, Nate: Here he is hitting Cena with a chair — a move that resulted in...

First Lady Michelle Obama is all about healthy foods, and she visited "Jimmy Kimmel Live" for a section called Eat Your Effin Vees. Their dynamic is completely hilarious, and frankly Michelle Obama is the absolute best. If only she'd mom danced, but alas, wrong late night show.
Lily Tomlin also visited Jimmy, and sold a bunch of weed to his band. Don't worry, it was medicinal. Over on "The Tonight Show," Rachel Maddow stopped by to teach Jimmy Fallon how to make The Millionaire -- in honor of Donald Trump's run for president. Best quote: "I have to tell you, it is a terrible drink. It isn't tasty.

This week’s Smackdown took place in Green Bay, Wisconsin and was the last major show before WWE SummerSlam this Sunday.
Prior to Smackdown taking place, they did a dark match and also taped some matches for Main Event. The dark match for the local fans only saw Wisconsin native Hornswoggle defeat Heath Slater. That led to this tweet from Dolph Ziggler, who was obviously impressed with the match.

Here are the results from this week’s Smackdown.
Ryback took on Big Show in the opener and their match ended in a countout. They did a big spot where Ryback gave Show a clothesline that sent him through the barricade. It sounds like something that could be difficult to pull off.

It only makes sense that if WWE is going to make SummerSlam a four-hour extravaganza like WrestleMania that they appropriate the phrase “Road to ______” for the biggest event of the summer as well. Triple H announced at the outset Monday that the Road to SummerSlam would start with Monday Night Raw.
In truth, the path to SummerSlam began five weeks ago and has actually progressed pretty nicely. Most of the 10 matches on the card have gotten a pretty good build during the past month, even with some subpar Raws along the way. Monday’s episode tied things together, made the hard sell and managed to not derail the momentum. There are bound to be a clunker or two at SummerSlam, but fans should get a...

John Cena versus Seth Rollins is scheduled to be a long term feud, Dave Meltzer reports in the wrestling observer newsletter. The program is only just getting started at SummerSlam, and it isn’t considered just a match to move on from.
Based on that information, it seems likely that Cena will be winning the championship at some point in the next few months. It would be difficult to book a long term feud in which the heel just keeps going over.
Meltzer noted the new Cena “15x” shirt which has just been printed, which could be an indication that Cena isn’t winning at SummerSlam. However, Meltzer adds “they change their minds weekly.”
WWE’s next few shows after SummerSlam are Night Of Champions on September 20, and Hell In A Cell on October 25. It would be a fun final fight to see Rollins and Cena squaring off in the cell.

WWE Shop are selling a new John Cena T-shirt, emblazoned with “15x” on the back.
The timing of this, just a week and a half before he goes for his sixteenth championship, suggests that Cena won’t be defeating Seth Rollins in their title match at SummerSlam.
If Cena was about become a “16x”, there’s surely no way this “15x” shirt would be getting released right now. Can you imagine the refund requests WWE would get if this shirt becomes out of date after a week?
WWE Shop are even pushing it on their main page, listing it as “15x Authentic Merchandise.”
Either someone on the booking side hasn’t liaised with the merchandising department, or Cena is staying a fifteen time champion for the foreseeable future.
The problem with Cena losing is that Seth Rollins as both a WWE and Us Champion doesn’t make much sense.

Smackdown began with a tribute to the late great Roddy Piper. His family was shown at ringside because he was beloved in the Portland area and the family lived there for many years.
Seth Rollins did a show opening promo bragging about how he’s the best pro wrestler alive and on the same level as sports icons Michael Jordan and Babe Ruth. He mentioned John Cena on Tough Enough and how he wanted Cena to accept his Title vs. Title challenge. Neville walked out to challenge Rollins to a WWE Title match. Then Cesaro showed up to ask Rollins for a title shot. Kevin Owens attacked Cesaro while Rollins went after Neville and that set up the main event tag match for later.

Daniel Bryan’s welcome presence on Raw wasn’t a huge surprise, given that we were in his home state of Washington. Still, the live crowd showed that Bryan is as popular as ever, despite his extended layoff.
