The show was cancelled after its first season in Australia, which had been originally filmed with a cliffhanger ending in anticipation of a second season. When the series was axed, the cast were brought back to film scenes which tied up the storylines at the last minute to give the show some sort of closure. This new ending was shown in repeat screenings.
The series was a continuation of the three part mini-series, Return to Eden (1983), transmitted in Australia in 1983. The storyline was set seven years after the ending of the mini-series, and several of the original cast members reprised their roles for the TV series, though the roles of Stephanie's two children were recast as they were now grown.
The official DVD release in France from Koba films, contains the re-edited last episode with extra final scenes that gives the show closure.
Several characters have personalised number-plates on their cars, from Dan's Range Rover (DM-1) to Dennis' Porsche (4-PLAY). Stephanie favoured a more dignified SH-2 for her 3231.
A vinyl album of Brian May's music for the series, "Return To Eden - Original Television Soundtrack" was released on the Varèse Sarabande label at the time of first broadcast, and subsequently reissued in 2010 on CD by BSX Records.
