A very good film, well worth watching. Would've been excellent if ending wasn't as abrupt.

Warning: Spoilers
Vento Di Terra (wind of the earth) is an Italian film about an 18 year old boy (Vicenzo Pacilli) from a poor suburb of Napoli, Italy who finds himself burdened by expectations of supporting his mother after his father dies from an unexpected heart attack. Working in a blue-collar factory job, Vince soon finds that he does not have enough money to support himself, let alone his frail recently widowed mother. His sister departs to Cassano to finally end her employment drought by getting a job in the local FIAT factory. Vince is left alone to support his mother.

He gets involved in a heist, and then out of guilt confesses his sin to a close family friend, who suggests he joins the Italian army. In the army Vince meets a new found friend through his training period, and they are soon deployed together to the war torn state of Kosovo in the Former Yugoslavia, where he is exposed to the brutality of war.

This film is gripping, even though it has a sad storyline. The only things that spoils this film in my eyes, is the abrupt ending, the lack of a climax, and the fact that a lot of things remain unresolved. It would've been nice to see Vince get back at his Uncle "Ciro" for molesting his sister, or be involved in more action in Kosovo. I was also expecting to see how Vincenzo dealt with the situation he was in, after he was diagnosed as having suffered Uranium poisoning whilst serving for the Italian army in Kosovo.

A little piece of real Italy
Tonto2721 October 2006
An hard story about a poor Italian family. A story to remind that difficulties in life come always one after another, and to have difficulties in Italy can be an hard challenge - even if you work hard.

An old couple live in Neaples with their children in their 20ies. The mother and the daughter work together, at home, sewing some pieces of textiles. The father and the son work together in a little mechanical shop. But they don't even have money to pay the rent. The children see no future: the situation is blocked up, until one day a tragical event change dramatically their lives, and they spread away challenging for a better life. But, when you start from a point like this, it can be very hard see better days.
