Sounds like a normal relationship movie.

contrary to what the previous review may say about this movie, going just from the description I would say that this is just a standard no frills relationship story and a filming of the response of unrequited love and the loss of friendship and how love changes the roles of friends.

It isn't just American movies that do this, but it is a human standard. It could be a movie like any other movie.

Their is a similarity to Turkish movies and American movies. So as described there is nothing exciting, and nothing extraordinary. But then that is what this movie is about Not extraordinary but AVERAGE people, and women who want what average men can not provide.

Perhaps if Nejat had gone and made a fortune instead of being a friend, when his love interest first says what she wants he might have won her. Then again to win her he might have gone and started a war that slaughters all humanity and they would both be dead and the point of his deeds for love would be MOOT.

But then who can say what is right or wrong?

If I have a chance I might watch this movie.

Classic Turkish Melodrama
mustican23 April 2005
This film comes out of the times when it was in its one of the most productive terms. Samanyolu is adapted from a famous novel and subjected to movies and songs. Main characters are two cousins. Nejat has no parents and cared by his auntie. Zulal has just finished high school and trying to find a suitable man to marry who should be presentable and wealthy. Nejat has been in love with Zulal forever but he cannot tell his feeling to her as he feels like he is going to ruin her good relationship with her. Funny but Zulal feels sorry for him for not having his parents but also flirts with him in a light scale. WELL, having finished his military service, Nejat comes back with even stronger feelings for her. She talks to him about all sorts. The ideal guy she wants to marry to etc... Nejat is having problem as he is unemployed besides being in love. and his unemployment is reminded to him all the time by Zulal in a rude way. To cut it a bit short, Nejat meets a high school friend who finally finds him a job. His name is Namik, handsome and rich. He one day accidentally goes to Nejat's place and sees Zulal and these two marries. Poor Nejat is so heartbroken and chooses to tell Zulal that he loves her on her engagement night. How stupid!! Well, when that happens of course their good cousin relationship is ruined and they stop taking to each other. Even Nejat does not attend her wedding. The film goes on and on with these sort of incidents, coincidences. You will not get bored but will think how silly this movie is. This is a kind of movie that Turkish cinema was all about. Although there are some good example of melodramas, to me this one can not cross pass the barrier. ** out of *****
