Although the first season of Supergirl was no slouch, I agree with many viewers in saying that its sophomore run was a vast improvement. It wasn’t just that the show was finding its footing, but there’s the undeniable benefit that comes along with being a superhero series airing on The CW. In other words, it’s apparent that the network affords more creative freedom, thereby allowing comic book based shows to stay truer to their source material.
Actually, you need only look as far as the first couple episodes of season 2, which both featured Tyler Hoechlin as one of the most believable interpretations of Superman in live action – ever. But as much of a welcome addition he made as a guest star, the focus on Kara Zor-El was never lost as she found love with Mon-El, and even battled supervillain threats such as Cadmus, Parasite and Mr. Mxyzptlk.

Supergirl is spreading an apt, welcome message of acceptance and tolerance in season two...
Supergirl has always been an entertaining show, one with its own identity and point of view. The move to the CW has given it a boost of energy and it finally seems to be settling into a real groove. But I'd argue that the currently-airing second season of the show has elevated it to also being an important show – tackling issues of intolerance and hatred – and it's exactly what the world needs right now.

There's a new Martian in town on The CW's Supergirl, but M'gann M'orzz's story is just beginning to unfold. DC Comics fans were excited when Supergirl cast Sharon Leal to play the beloved Miss Martian on the show. The actor first appeared in last week's episode, "Welcome to Earth," as a bartender at the secret alien bar Alex and Maggie investigated. She revealed herself as a Martian to J'onn J'onzz/Hank, which was quite a surprise to him considering he assumed he was the last Martian alive. She took a more active role, and we learned something huge, in this week's episode "Survivors." Fan-favorite Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse, Agents of Shield, The 100) joined the cast this week to play villain Roulette (Veronica Sinclair), who runs a superhero fight club (no, not the friendly kind) and casino/illegal gambling ring that's been depicted in the comics, Smallville, and the animated series Justice League Unlimited.

Okay, I know it's still early in the season, but it sure seems like all of the CW superhero shows are cruising right now, doesn't it? Which potential relationship do you find most intriguing? Kara/Mon-El, Alex/Maggie, or J'onn/Lady Martian?
Jay: Alex and Maggie, for sure. I think they're the most likely to get together out of the pairs, and Alex's story will be interesting.
Christine: There was definite chemistry between Maggie and Alex, but I’m curious as to where they’re going with Kara and Mon-El. They’re both stranded here on Earth. Will this be a growing romance for this season? If so, I fear tragedy in the end.

In tonight’s episode of The Flash, Harry returned to Earth-2, but realizing that they still need his help, the team decided to find a different version from an alternate Earth. In the end, they settled on the Harrison Wells from Earth-19, but the promo above makes it clear that there may be more to their new ally than meets the eye.
The first Harrison we met was the Reverse-Flash in disguise. Tom Cavanagh played him and the real version in flashbacks, while his Earth-2 counterpart would first show up during season two. As a result, there have now been four different versions of the character in the series, so it will certainly be interesting to see what this one is up to.

It’s fairly amazing that it took five men — Nicolas Wright, James A. Woods, Dean Devlin, Roland Emmerich, James Vanderbilt – to conceive the story and pen the script to Independence Day: Resurgence when it trod no new ground and felt like the worst rehash of the original film and many other Sf flicks from the preceding twenty years.
The original ID4 was an unassuming popcorn thriller with implausible science and predictable actions but leavened with strong performances and quirky, fun characters. Out of all the CW superhero shows that have sprung up, Supergirl has clearly been at the top of it’s game compared to the rest. While Berlanti might just be getting spread a little thin with how big of a presence he has in television right now, Supergirl manages to avoid flaws that both Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow share. No, Supergirl is not perfect by any means, but it has strong characters, more reasonable drama and feels more unique than the other shows. In the show’s move to The CW, things have started off strongly once again with the inclusion of Superman

I must say that Arrow certainly isn’t pulling any punches this year. In an effort to rebound from a divisive fourth season and to keep up with sister shows such as The Flash and Supergirl, the series has not only returned to its visceral roots, but also culled together several characters that are appearing in live action for the first time.
This new batch of images taken from tomorrow’s episode, “Penance,” capture what are sure to be two intense situations, the first of which will see Oliver and Lyla join forces to break Diggle out of prison. I’m well aware that the false charges against Diggle will be an ongoing thread, but springing him from the clink is actually quite necessary for the series’ sake because not many fans will be content to see a beloved character sitting in a prison cell for months.

Lynda Carter made a guest appearance on Supergirl Season 2 Episode 3 as the Potus, and Kara's reaction could not have been more adorable.
How great was it to see a superhero – who can fly – get so giddy over Air Force One?
With the election looming, Supergirl took on its own political debate in the form of alien rights. Of course, when they say alien, they actually mean from another planet, but the sentiment is still very relatable. It wasn't a surprise to see Kara and J'onn on opposite sides, but it was interesting to watch both of them start to see the other side.

Yesterday, we saw a clip featuring the debut of Sharon Leal's Miss Martian and today, The CW has released a new clip featuring former Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter as the Potus. In this scene, the fictional Madame President visits the Deo to discuss her Alien Amnesty Act with J'onn J'onnz. Surprisingly, it would appear that Martian Manhunter doesn't think opening up the Earth to other aliens is a good idea. Supergirl season 2, episode 3 - "Welcome to Earth" airs Monday, October 24 on The CW at 8/7c. “Welcome to Earth”— (8:00-9:00 p.m. Et) (Content Rating Tbd) (HDTV) Lynda Carter (“Wonder Woman”) Lands In National City As President Olivia Marsdin — An attack is made on the President (guest star Lynda Carter) as hot-button, alien vs. human rights issues heat up in National City. Supergirl season 2, episode 3 - "Welcome to Earth" airs Monday, October 24 on The CW at 8/7c. As evidenced in the clip below, it appears J'onn doesn't recognize his niece in her human guise. Or is it possible that they don't actually know one another at all, at least not formally? It seems M'gann M'orzz definitely knows who J'onn is which should serve as a big clue to knowledgeable comic book readers who know Miss Martian's true origin and actual relationship to the Last son of Mars. In addition to Miss Martian's debut, Linda Carter also makes her first series appearance on Supergirl as President of the United States. The first clip has been released from next week’s episode of Supergirl, and in it, we get our best look yet at former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter as the President of the United States. The actress being added to the cast of The CW series has generated a lot of hype, and the network is no doubt hoping that those who tuned in for Superman will stick around for Carter now.
In the clip, we see the President come under attack from a mysterious alien menace only for the Girl of Steel to fly in and save the day. Despite very nearly being burned to a crisp, the leader of the free world seems intent on giving alien attackers the same rights as America citizens, something Deo boss Hank Henshaw (a.k.a. Martian Manhunter) doesn’t seem that on board with.

Despite very nearly being burned to a crisp, the leader of the free world seems intent on giving alien attackers the same rights as America citizens, something Deo boss Hank Henshaw (a.k.a. Martian Manhunter) doesn’t seem that on board with.

Cat Grant dove into new waters and took a leave of absence on Supergirl Season 2 Episode 2.
She wasn't the only one who left as Superman went back home to Metropolis.
Below, Jay Ruymann, Yana Grebenyuk, Jim Garner, Christine Orlando, and Steve Ford discuss Kara's new job and boss, Project Cadums, and Mon-El.
What is your first impression of Snapper Carr?
Jay: I… hate him. He’s awful. I can understand being frustrated when Cat just announced that Kara was being placed there with no experience. But Cat is the boss, or was, and he didn’t even allow Kara a chance to prove herself. He’s a tool.
Yana: I kind of liked him. No one could replace Cat, not in the way that we expected. So placing this guy who is very different from Cat, who doesn't believe in Kara at all is interesting. Now Kara can use what...

Last night’s episode of Supergirl featured the departures of both Superman and Cat Grant. While the latter will return sporadically throughout the show’s second season, the Man of Steel’s future on The CW is unknown. Regardless, this trailer for next week’s instalment makes it clear that Kara Danvers is going to have plenty to keep her busy.
In it, we get a first look at Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman) as the President of the United States. The actress coming to Supergirl is something which has been receiving a lot of mainstream media coverage, which has no doubt made Warner Bros. very happy seeing as they’re looking to ensure that viewers have followed the series from CBS.

One of the best things about Supergirl is its emphasis on family and team work.
Supergirl Season 2 Episode 2 reminded us of that value and certainly did not disappoint!
We started off watching Team Krypton #TooMuchFun, but it couldn't just be all about Supergirl and Superman.
They really are a lot of fun to watch, but not at the expense of a jealous Alex.
That's something we're not really used to seeing. Alex has mentioned time and time again how much she's given up and put aside to protect Kara, but this time she was hiding behind that. The idea of Kara moving to Metropolis to be with Clark was downright painful, but she couldn't just come out and admit that for some reason.
Honestly the whole scene was weird. Yes, Alex protects Kara, and maybe there was always a feeling of obligation behind it, but they are sisters, and they love each other.

The CW has released the first official images from the third episode of Supergirl‘s second season, and in them we not only get an even better look at Lynda Carter’s (Wonder Woman) President of the United States, but also the first shots of Detective Maggie Sawyer. A key Superman supporting character in the comics, she would later become romantically involved with Batwoman.
There’s nothing to say that we’ll see that superhero show up in Supergirl at any point, especially as many fans believe/hope that we’ll see her instead strike up a relationship with Alex Danvers. That would line up with previous comments from producers, that one of the show’s characters is going to end up coming out during season 2.

I think there’s something to be said when even naysayers of your first season are floored by the premiere of your second. Such is the case for Supergirl, which dazzled fans last night with its debut on The CW, a network that is known for its stellar superhero adaptations. Boasting an hour of spectacular action sequences, tons of charm, and the introduction of Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, it’s no wonder that social media is buzzing today.
The first of two trailers for next week’s episode, “The Last Children of Krypton,” gives us a taste of the looming battle with John Corben/Metallo, whereas the second cobbles together footage from the premiere and upcoming episodes to tease what we can expect this season from the sinister organization known as Cadmus. Needless to say, it’s interesting stuff.

Supergirl‘s move from CBS to The CW has led to some budget cuts, but that won’t stop the Man of Steel from making his presence felt in the first couple of episodes or some very exciting guest stars showing up. Among them is original small screen Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, and as you probably already know, she’s set to play the President of the United States.
That’s not the only thing going on here though, as we can also look forward to fan-favourite comic book character Maggie Sawyer making her presence felt alongside Mon-El, the mysterious character it’s thought was in the pod we saw crash to Earth in the closing few minutes of Supergirl‘s season 1 finale. Is he friend or foe? Sadly, this description provides no answers.

Superman may have jetted off back to Metropolis, but fear not, Wonder Woman has arrived in her own private jet: Air Force One. It’s all about Mommy Dearest in this week’s episode of Lucifer. Our favourite Devil tried to call Amenadiel to take their Mother back to Hell. The downside to that is that it doesn’t seem to work. Maybe the archangel should consider therapy like Lucifer did with Dr. Martin. If it works for the Devil, it can work for an archangel, yes? I laughed when Lucifer tried calling for his angelic brother again in Ella’s lab, saying “is this thing on?”. Oh, show, you amuse me greatly. My amusement continued when Lucifer dragged his Mom out from the hotel room where

1. “The Fall” Season 3 (available October 29)
Why Should I Watch It? The official follow-up to “The X-Files” was released earlier this year, when the ill-fated Season 10 debuted and managed to, at best, somewhat resemble the groundbreaking original series. But its true successor — one worthy of the Fox drama’s elite status — came even sooner. Gillian Anderson picked up a new badge and started going after baddies once more when “The Fall” debuted on BBC2 in the summer of 2013. Since then, we’ve only gotten one more season. But it was an absolute doozy, making the wait for Season 3 utterly unbearable. If somehow you haven’t watched yet, get on it. This is peak Gillian Anderson, peak cop drama and peak TV — period.
Best Episode: I hate picking finales — it just seems so easy — but “What is in me Dark Illumine” marks the culmination of everything that came before. [Spoiler alert] Stella (Anderson) finally...

Wondering how all the DC universe TV spin-offs, crossovers and webseries fit together? We have the answer...
In October 2012, Us network The CW launched the first season of Arrow, after wrapping up no fewer than ten seasons of Superman origin show Smallville a year before. Arrow was a completely new take on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, in a new universe that had nothing to do with Smallville or its version of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. The series proved quite the hit for The CW, and a second season renewal inevitably followed. In season two, we were introduced to forensic scientist Barry Allen, better known to DC Comics readers as The Flash. Arrow got a third season, The Flash got his own TV show with great success, and the live action shared DC Comics universe on TV was born. And with it the question: how does it all fit together?...

Picture this: An old sedan comes to a stop at a desolate pile of rubble in the blue-hued ruins of modern Albania. A handful of masked men leap out of the car and forcibly remove the hooded hostage who’s been flailing around in the trunk. They throw him to the ground, shove an Ak-47 in his face and pull back the cloth covering his face. It’s Miles Teller. Freeze frame. Cue the voiceover: “My name is David Packouz, and you might be wondering how I got myself into this mess.”
Those aren’t his exact words (pretty close, though), but you get the idea — from its cold open to its abrupt closing line, there isn’t a single moment of Todd Phillips’ “War Dogs” that won’t make you feel as though you’ve seen this stridently American movie a hundred times already. What do you say about Independence Day 20 years later? That it kicked off the Michael Bay-ification of blockbuster movies by making explosions the real stars of the film (even though Michael Bay had little to do with it)? That it cemented Will Smith as a star and went on to gross over $300 million domestically? You could just say that it's a really solid action sci-fi film. Much of that credit goes to Will Smith (Captain Steve Hiller), whose charisma and chemistry with his various costars elevated Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich's dialogue (depending on which version of the screenplay you read,...

Twenty years ago, our summer films were big budget and fun, with just a dollop of seriousness to give them weight. They didn’t take themselves too seriously and more often than not delivered good performances, fine special effects, and plenty of bang for the buck. In many cases, they were original efforts that weren’t serialized or drawn from comic books despite their “comic book” feel.
One of the best of that bunch was Independence Day which, honestly, didn’t hold up to a lot of examination but gave us popcorn thrills and was really a 1950s disaster pic updated for the ‘90s. It’s a guilty pleasure and one we invariably stop to watch whenever we find it on television. A lot of credit goes to cowriter Dean Devlin and cowriter/director Roland Emmerich. It was well cast and kept moving, interweaving numerous threads that culminated in a terrific dog fight across America.

The Flash hits its sweet spot once again with this week's time-travel themed episode, Flash Back...
This review contains spoilers.
2.17 Flash Back
For a show that's had the possibility of time travel in its back pocket for as long as The Flash has, it's astonishing that the device hasn't been used to mess around with the narrative too much so far. It's used sparingly, for one, and up until now the show has taken pains to ensure that Barry can only really time travel by accident, and even then only with a myriad of unforeseen consequences.
Flash Back marks a departure from that, with Barry going back in time for his own purposes and more or less getting everything right. Yes, almost everything goes wrong while he's there, but he travels back to the right place and time and doesn't squash any butterflies during the hour. The...

Hot on the heels of the reveal of a stunning promotional poster comes the first official teaser trailer for the historic inter-network crossover between Supergirl and The Flash. The video, which can be viewed at the top, features some token shots of the aforementioned heroes, along with a stylish display in which some speedster lightning traverses the iconic shield of the House of El. Perhaps this reporter is not the only one vaguely reminded of the opening credits to Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film.
