Poetic and surrealistic...
rainking_es31 January 2006
A man who really loves art finds the works of an unknown Chilean genius. He'll move heaven and earth to safeguard it and to make it known by the people of Chile... but it won't be that easy. He'll come up against the hypocrisy and the corruption of the public institutions who will try to appropriate the discovery.

Cachimba is such a poetic film, it also has some surrealistic touch that take shape in some of the characters that are rather eccentric. There are not many ups and downs, the music of the "bandoneón" goes on as we watch the misfortune of this modern Quijote, this defender of lost causes. OK, the movie may result not as homogeneous as it should be, but it is a wonderful story anyway. Tjhose who like frenzied action will hate Cachimba, that's for sure, ¡cause this is a movie meant to be enjoyed by the ones who are looking for something else but explosions and digital effects.

PD: I'd like to emphasize the work of the actor who plays Felipe. One of those completely unknown actors that would be a real star if only he had been born in the USA.

Good movie!

Warning: Spoilers
First, I want to clarify that Julio Jung, the actor who plays Felipe is a very well know actor in Chile.

Second, there are a several things I didn't understand about this movie. If you haven't seen it, don't read the rest; it will spoil it.

Did Felipe paint blue over the paintings? Did Felipe give Marcos the real paintings? Was Felipe the painter, or did he just paint over Cachimba at the end? He had obviously made money... Was Marcos making money painting "Larco's" pictures? Is the movie about becoming a crook, like everyone else was? Did I miss the part where the whole museum ended up in Marco's hands, after he was not considered at all?

I will appreciate your help with this.
