The film gives the impression that Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol" did not become a television tradition until the 1951 Alastair Sim version became popular among viewers. There had been versions of "A Christmas Carol" on television shown regularly since 1947.
The film gives the impression that Gian Carlo Menotti's opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" stopped being telecast because it never became popular, when the reason was partly because of a dispute between Menotti and NBC. The 1963 version had been shown without his personal supervision, so, after it was shown twice Menotti withdrew all permission for further showings, and "Amahl" was not seen on TV again until a new production was made in 1978.
