Gearbox Entertainment was acquired by the Swedish game company Embracer Group in 2021. Recently, rumors were that it was planning to sell Gearbox as part of the restructuring plan that has seen the company cut nearly 1400 jobs and shut down studios such as Saints Row developer Volition and Square Enix Montreal, just to name a few.
It was reported yesterday that the company is divesting Gearbox to 2K Games and GTA developer Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive. The companies have now confirmed this and revealed that Take-Two has acquired the company for $460 million and will own almost all the franchises from the renowned developer, as well as other new projects.

Video game publisher Take-Two Interactive Software has acquired Gearbox Entertainment, the company behind the Borderlands franchise, for $460 million in an all-stock deal with Embracer, the latest big deal in the video game business.
The deal comes as Lionsgate is releasing Eli Roth’s theatrical adaptation of Borderlands in August.
Take-Two said it expects the transaction “to deepen its successful relationship with Gearbox Entertainment and to provide increased financial benefits through a fully-integrated operational structure.” Gearbox’s extensive IP portfolio includes full ownership of the popular Borderlands and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands franchises, as well as Homeworld, Risk of Rain, Brothers in Arms, Duke Nukem. Gearbox currently has six interactive entertainment projects in various stages of development, including five sequels, two of which are from the Borderlands and Homeworld franchises, and at least one new property.

GTA 6 will be one of the greatest games of the current generation. Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns Rockstar, counts Grand Theft Auto as one of its key businesses. This giant of the industry made a deal with Embracer Group and just acquired Gearbox Entertainment, the creators of Borderlands, for almost 500 million dollars.
Gearbox confirmed this today through a social media post, expressing their joy at joining the 2K team. Embracer Group also sold more IPs, beginning a plan for restructuring the company.

Embracer has acquired a ton of studios and companies and has been successful in managing almost all of them. Numerous of these studios were permanently closed for bad sales, and others are just being re-sold again because this investor group doesn’t know what to do.

The pilot episode of Peacock’s The Continental, titled ‘Brothers in Arms,’ has premiered with all its brutal, colorful, and mysterious flair, taking viewers through the hellish landscape of New York’s underworld during the ’70s. Taking a look back at the past life of the ever-dependable manager of Continental, Winston Scott, some secrets regarding the titular institution get revealed as the then-socio-political situation and economic turbulence keep shaping up the central narrative. In its very first feature-length episode, The Continental puts forth a gritty period piece and builds on the intrigue by maintaining the characteristics and traits of the John Wick universe by assembling the expanded mythology, Gunfu, and emotional complexities together in a pretty solid manner.
The major highlight of the first episode is definitely the adept use of the 70s setting in exploring the world of John Wick, proper characterization that keeps viewers hooked into the narrative flow,...

Sony has work to do on PlayStation backwards compatibility - an area it's lagging behind Xbox One...
Blood soaks the walls of the fog-filled entrance to a labyrinthine alley.
Bravely, Harry continues into the darkness. A siren wails hauntingly from some unknown place. There is something terribly disconcerting about all this. Perhaps he should go back? And then, in the blackness, he sees a gurney. A bloody sheet covers what can only be a body lying beneath it. And yet, Harry goes on. More blood is splattered on the concrete, even more drips from the chain link fence. And then he comes across it – a horrifying decomposing corpse hangs from the fence in front of him. And what are those figures coming towards him out of the gloom?
Things are looking very bad in the town of Silent Hill.
It is one of the most memorable moments in video game history.

Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has teased the imminent announcement of a new game from the studio. Replying to a fan on Twitter asking about the possibility of a Duke Nukem/Gears of War crossover, Pitchford replied with “on December 1st, we are announcing something you might really enjoy.” No explicit mention of a new game is made, but considering the date mentioned just so happens to coincide with this year’s The Game Awards, it’s not out of the realms of possibility that Gearbox will make the announcement there.

After being burned by Avengers: Age of Ultron, I'm not quite as gung-ho about Captain America: Civil War as I might have been otherwise. I'm still going into the film with a sense of cautious optimism, but as we get closer to the utter insanity of Infinity War, I'm justifiably a little worried that the massive cast here could be a bad sign for the films to come. I really hope the Russo Brothers can pull this off.
Marvel has released a new featurette for the movie called Brothers in Arms, which you can check out below. Also, ComingSoon pointed out that ABC News has its own video interviews with the cast from the set of the movie that might be worth checking out, so you can watch that at the bottom of this page. Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6th.

Jurassic World is fine. Massive blockbuster earnings aside, it’s neither contrived enough to feel like another lesser sequel nor original enough to stray too far from Spielberg’s 1993 original. That uneasy cradle — between ingenuity and brand loyalty — is where tentpole franchises and their music have come to rest. With Furious 7, Atlantic Records threw dub step and electro-house music onto another collection of so-so promotional hip-hop. Henry Jackman and Matthew Margeson only squeak out brief homages to John Barry rather than admit how indebted to Roger Moore Bond Kingsman: The Secret Service really is. Even Danny Elfman and Brian Tyler never stray far from Alan Silvestri’s original “Transformers meets Mission Impossible” theme in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Blockbuster movie composition is, like the studio system in 2015, sturdy, safe and kinda boring. Michael Giacchino’s score for Jurassic World is the latest to fit the mold. Like the movie itself,...

Wamg is giving away the soundtrack from Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ post-apocalyptic action-thriller Mad Max: Fury Road from Grammy nominated producer and composer Junkie Xl.
Starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult and directed by Oscar winner George Miller, the mastermind behind the legendary “Mad Max” franchise, Fury Road is a return to the world of Road Warrior, Max Rockatansky (Hardy). Haunted by his turbulent past, Max teams up with a mysterious woman, Furiosa (Theron), to try and survive a high-octane Road War.
The film is in theaters now.
The movie’s vast landscape provided ample opportunity for the composer to explore a diverse range of musical territory, from beating drums to sweeping strings and electric guitar-driven operatic themes, utilizing nearly 200 instruments. “The score includes almost everything in a composer’s arsenal. In the wake of the Alien 5 news, here are 10 franchise sequels that also ignored at least one previous film.
We all have moments in our lives we'd prefer to forget, and so too do filmmakers. So what do you do when a movie franchise starts to go off the rails? Simple, just forget that the lesser films in the series never happened.
News recently broke that director Neill Blomkamp's taking this approach to the Alien universe. Recent interviews with both he and returning star Sigourney Weaver have revealed that Blomkamp's forthcoming sequel will not necessarily follow the events of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, and pick up the story from Aliens instead (although he has since given a brief update on that).
Of course, we'll have to wait and see exactly how all this pans out. But it's by no means the first time in history that a film's...

Oh, how blind we Xeno-fans were back in 2011. Just how exactly could Aliens: Colonial Marines possibly suck? As the craftsmen behind such acclaimed games as Brothers in Arms and Borderlands, Gearbox had our confidence signed and sealed, but couldn’t deliver worth a damn.
The gaping cavity Colonial Marines left in our chests was a hearty deathblow to our collective faith in a franchise that was already struggling to stay relevant. Universal Soldier began in 1992 before suffering from some tawdry sequels. Then John Hyams revived the franchise in spectacular fashion...
The Universal Soldier films are a strange case of life imitating art. Much like how series protagonist Luc Deveraux is killed in action then resurrected into something post-human, Universal was a pretty standard 90s action film which crashed and burned when it came to sequels, but became something unique and beautiful when it was reanimated for the straight to DVD market.
It’s a hushed secret among genre fans, but Universal Solder 3 and 4 (or possibly 5 and 6, it’s complicated) are some of the most remarkable action sci-fi films of the 21st century so far. Yes, really. I actually watched the series backwards when I first saw them, after being blown away by Universal Solder Day Of Reckoning and deciding to work my way back, and Roland Emmerich’s perfectly acceptable 1992 blockbuster...

Ubisoft takes us on a memorable journey through World War I in this charming puzzler...
When I first laid eyes on Valiant Hearts I, like many others, predicted big things for the World War I title, and I'm glad to report I wasn't wrong, at least in my opinion. Tackling World War I, an era largely ignored by videogames thus far, the game attempts to do two things – create an enjoyable puzzle adventure, and to convey the tragedy and heartbreak, as well as the hope and camaraderie felt during the war, to the player. It's a game that tells a war story, one that's inspired by real life letters and events from the front, and the developers have crafted a fitting tribute to the troops, with a beautiful game, not only visually so, but also in terms of the writing and characterisation.

Des Monaghan has decided to step down as executive chairman of the Screentime Group, producers of the Underbelly franchise, Janet King and Cloudstreet, at the end of May.
Bob Campbell, who co-founded Screentime with Monaghan 18 years ago, will run the company as managing director. The Banijay Group bought a majority stake in 2012.
Monaghan will continue his association with Screentime as a consultant and producer of several projects including the Batavia miniseries for Network Ten.
"It's been an extraordinary run, a fantastic 18 years," he told If. "Television is a very tough game and it's getting tougher. The pressure on program directors is almost impossible with the total unpredictability and the fragmentation of audiences..
"I have had the very great fortune of having Bob Campbell as my business partner. It is fair to say that the success of the company far exceeded our initial expectations."
When Banijay bought into Screentime Monaghan was offered a five-year contract.

Borderlands has been a runaway success for developer Gearbox Software, but according to its CEO and President Randy Pitchford, we won’t be seeing a third instalment in the series anytime soon. Instead, it seems that Gearbox simply wants to take its time with the third game in the series to ensure that it tops the brilliant Borderlands 2.
In an interview with Polygon, Pitchford said:
“We love Borderlands, and we know customers do too. So we will be doing more in Borderlands. But the thing that, when you think of what Borderlands 3 should be… No. We are not developing that right now. We don’t know what that is yet. We can imagine what it must achieve, but we don’t know what it is yet.”
Of course, we will be seeing more Borderlands very soon, with a PlayStation Vita port of Borderlands 2 and Telltale’s episodic game Tales From...

Speaking on the Nerdist podcast, Gearbox Software president and CEO confirmed that more downloadable content for "Borderlands 2" is inbound, despite the game's Season Pass officially wrapping up with the release of "Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep" earlier this month.
"Everyone was under the expectations that those would be the four Dlc's and that's it," Pitchford explained. "We are going to do more, we are going to do some other things. I don't have details exactly of it yet cause were not ready to announce what the other things are."

As Michael is pushed closer and closer to the edge by Burke, I wasn't sure what the breaking point was going to be - but we found that all the rules changed by the end of "Brothers in Arms."
I freely admit that I am/was a card carrying member of the Randall Burke Fan Club. Regardless of his methods, he showed Michael more loyalty in his final moments that the CIA has in the last seven years.
How could you not like him? His team is his family, just like Michael, and he was willing to do anything (including blowing himself up) to keep his word and not leave Michael and Sonja behind in the hands of the Russians.
Though he wasn't around long, Burke will be missed. I really liked how he was a "Yin" to Strong’s "Yang." Where Strong is by the book and technically the “good guy,...

Denver -- Survivors of a woman killed during the production of a reality TV show pilot have filed a wrongful death and negligence lawsuit against Discovery Communications Inc. and Anthropic Productions Corp.
Terry Flanell's husband and daughter filed the lawsuit last week in federal court in Denver.
It says the companies were producing a pilot focusing on the family's Colorado Springs business, Dragon Arms Inc. The suit says the opening sequence was to have employees walk through a cloud of smoke, but pyrotechnic devices that were used to create the smoke malfunctioned, and one struck Flanell.
The lawsuit alleges no licensed pyrotechnics operator was on scene last year for filming of the "Brothers In Arms" pilot.
A phone number for Anthropic wasn't listed. A Discovery spokeswoman did not return calls seeking comment.

A pyrotechnics stunt gone fatally wrong last year during production on a Discovery Channel pilot has resulted in a wrongful death suit filed this week. “As a direct result of Discovery’s negligence and negligence in using, or authorizing the use of, pyrotechnic devices during the production of the “Brothers in Arms” pilot, Terry Flannel was killed,” says a complaint (read it here) filed yesterday in Colorado federal court by Flannel’s family against Discovery Communications. The six-claim complaint seeks a jury trial and unspecified damages in excess of $75,000 for the incident on June 14, 2012 during the filming of what was to be the opening sequence of the Wwi-themed show. “Anthropic’s negligence and negligence per sein using pyrotechnic devices during the production of the “Brothers in Arms” pilot created an unreasonable risk of physical harm to Plaintiff Mel Bernstein, who was directly in the line of fire of the airborne pyrotechnic devices,...

Defiance is big on character development this week, but is its story actually heading anywhere? Here's Billy's review...
This review contains spoilers.
1.7 Goodbye, Blue Sky
The theme of this week's Defiance was things that come back from our past to haunt us, as represented by the storm of 'razor rain', falling on the town. This serves a dual purpose, to glue characters together so they can interact without others interrupting, and as an external force that reminds Irisa that she's not human, like looking in the mirror isn't a clue. The messengers for that are pieces of an Arc spacecraft infused with nanites and Sukar, who was one of the more interesting alien characters the show has thrown up. After Revolution, nanites are becoming a direct replacement for explaining the inexplicable, but here they're blended with a little Irathient mysticism for good measure.

Billy sees an improvement in this week's Defiance, which takes in romantic complications and war crimes...
This review contains spoilers.
1.6 Brothers In Arms
Before I get into the actual mechanics of this story, I'd like to say that I think the show is getting better, after a rocky start. Some of the characters are becoming more engaging, and the performances in general are good.
Where Defiance seems to get bogged down is occasionally rough dialogue exchanges that are full of cop show or western clichés. Each time one of these happens it ruins the alternate-world context, and reminds us that the show is written to a deadline and shot on a budget.
The action in Brothers in Arms centres on Pol Madis, a Castithan war criminal that comes to defiance pursued by an old war buddy of Nolan, Eddie Braddock. Of the two Pol...

Defiance, Season 1: Episode 7 – “Brothers in Arms”
Directed by Andy Wolk
Written by Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer
Airs Monday nights at 9 of SyFy
This was the episode of Defiance I was waiting for. For a while now, this series has been hanging its hat on world-building, which hasn’t exactly been disengaging or uninteresting. But there have only been the occasional scenes in which I felt invested in the main characters. “Brothers in Arms” does a great job of using a common trope and subverting it in a way that draws out some legitimately interesting material from Nolan, and that development spreads to other parts and characters in the episode as well. The trope is the old friend of a character, Eddie (an old war buddy of Nolan’s), who comes in and turns out not be the person we think they are. Even sitcoms like Archer used this...

It’s become clearer each week that the relationship Nolan and Irisa possess is deeper and more complex than what you get at first glance.
"Brothers In Arms" added another layer to this as we learned that Nolan had help saving Irisa and that it was luck that landed Eddie in prison and Nolan with a daughter instead of the other way around.
As for Irisa, as I suspected last week, things are awkward with her and Tommy. Okay, just with Tommy at least, as he attempted to continue their relationship and she shut him down pretty hard. I doubt we've heard the last of it, but for now things are mostly cooling off.
This is true for Nolan and Kenya too, which surprises me. Given that he helped save her life, I would have guessed she would have latched on to him more not pushing him away. But this...

If you.re a director with only a couple of low-budget, low-acclaim horrors to your credit, and you.re looking to break out with some attention-grabbing fare, chances are you want to grab actors whose recognition alone will be enough to sell theater tickets. Of course, sometimes you just have to settle with those actors' siblings. For his third feature, The Reckoning, director John V. Soto has tapped Australian actors Luke Hemsworth - older brother of Thor actor Chris Hemsworth and The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth - and Jonathan Lapaglia - younger brother of Without a Trace star Anthony Lapaglia. Both men are already established television actors. Lapaglia.s latest roles were in 2011.s tense drama The Slap and 2012.s crime mystery Underbelly, while Hemsworth last starred in 2012.sBikie Wars: Brothers in Arms. It looks as if this may be Hemsworth.s first feature film role, as his other...

James Cameron’s Aliens has had more influence on video games than any other film in history. It was a raucous, violent romp that was rife with elements that felt like a video game before home technology could even replicate it. The cast of space marines is a trope that has been used in games from Doom all the way to Halo, the ammo count display on guns has been featured in the likes of Dead Space and others…hell, the movie even had a “boss battle” against the Queen Alien that presented the sort of escalation that games have used for decades.
Despite these qualities, a film-accurate, quality Aliens game experience has eluded us. The Aliens vs. Predator titles have been non-canonical asides that varied in accuracy and playability, and many of the straightforward Alien titles have been abysmal products of the license-heavy Nes days. Wayforward’s Aliens:...
