Sex & Nudity

  • Some prostitutes with revealing clothing in some scenes.
  • A prostitute is told to strip by a man. We see her bare breasts. They talk about explicit things before a sexual activity begins with visible thrusting although the camera is so blurred and oddly placed that it's not explicit.
  • Besides the two sex scenes there is lots of sexual dialogue in this film and a lot of it is graphic. The most explicit dialogue is a woman explaining how her friend has a hole in her vagina wall and that men still try to have sex with her.
  • A conversation between a hooker and a man has sexual dialog.
  • A man and a woman have sex. There is visible thrusting although we only see them above the shoulders and there is no nudity. There is graphic sexual dialogue in this scene and it lasts a little while.
  • A hooker flashes her breasts to her friends. They compliment her. The nudity is pretty prolonged.
  • A woman talks about her sexual experiences with a man that she knew.

Violence & Gore

  • A woman slaps another woman multiple times
  • A man punches a woman multiple times.
  • After being stabbed in the stomach with a screwdriver, a woman throws up blood onto the street which is very gross and hard to watch. There is also blood on her stomach.
  • We see a dead body of a woman with a screwdriver in her stomach and blood on the floor near the wound.
  • A corpse of a man with blood and brain around him is briefly shown. This isn't detailed or really explained.
  • The onscreen violence is shown without any blood but there are gross afterviews of violent acts with visible bloody wounds. This includes a scene where a woman vomits blood onto the floor along with shots of dead bodies and open wounds.
  • There are aggressive and graphic references to violence in one particular scene where a woman describes how she gouged a man's eye out while he attempted to rape her and she also attacked his genitals. She says that goo was coming out while he was clawing at his testicles and screaming.
  • A woman is seen with a screwdriver protruding from her stomach. Lots of blood is seen momentarily in closeup which includes the open wound.
  • A ghost is shot multiple times until it disappears. There is no blood at all despite the ghost looking like a man.

Profanity

  • The language can be graphic and jarring at times. "Fuck" is used repeatedly throughout the film around 50 times.
  • Most of the profanity is in the middle of the movie throughout a particular sequence where a woman constantly uses vulgar and sexual language. There is also much cursing in other scenes.
  • Numerous profanities ("fuck", "shit", "balls", "tits", etc).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • It's implied homeless people are on drugs. Some references to drug addiction.
  • Some smoking and drinking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A few scenes with loud noises and creepy imagery can be jumpscare-like.
  • Many scenes contain human-sized rabbit people. Their appearance is intentionally disturbing, it's David Lynch after all.
  • This movie is considered to be one of the scariest movies ever made
  • Considered to be one of the scariest and weirdest films of all time, Inland Empire is dark, suffocating and horrifying to watch at times but even in times where the film is not scary there is a sense of dread and mystery. The film has some of the most shocking jumpscares and most uncanny/uncomfortable scenes ever created.
  • This film is notoriously nightmarish and scary.
  • The entire film very disturbing, it is David Lynch's most surreal and hard to follow film. There are many themes of distorted realities and switched identities. There is a dream / nightmare-like atmosphere throughout most of the film.
