Fails to tell us much about Payne-Myers and has little else to recommend it for

Looking through her old books and CV, elderly dancer Diana Payne-Myers looks back over her career, touching on a few stories as she does so. As she talks and reminisces, the pages of her old book slowly start to come to life and add colour and vitality to her memories. In this interesting and enjoyable little short film, it probably helps to have a knowledge of Payne-Myers or at least or dance as an art form; sadly I had neither but still found just about enough to justify watching this short film.

The plot consists of Payne-Myers looking back over her life, but it is done in a way that will give little information to the casual viewer – in fact I can confidently say that I know no more now than I did before watching it. This is a problem and it does prevent the short being that interesting; we aren't allowed to learn about the subject of the film and it therefore remains little more than an animation for those who don't already know her.

The animation is a nice mix of styles though and it makes for an interesting film as it flashes between images and presentations. Of course I wouldn't suggest that this was enough to justify watching it for but it is a nice job, albeit with the clear limitations of budget shining through at points. The dancing isn't that impressive and, having seen several dance shorts, this is not one that will really stick in my mind.

Overall, see it if you have a working knowledge of dance (specifically Payne-Myers) or a real interest in viewing as much animation as you can; otherwise there really isn't a great deal to justify hunting down this short film for – even if it isn't "bad" in any way.
