A winner of the Berlin Film Fest audience award and Independent Spirit Award nominee, Eric's Tretbar's previous works include "The Usual" and his Sundance Channel debut "Snow".

"The Horrible Flowers" is his reworking of the Orpheus myth told through the prism of rock and roll garage bands, and it is proof positive that Tretbar, long touted as "someone to watch" has now very firmly arrived.

This is a fine piece of work for it's writing, direction, photography and for some utterly captivating performances, not least, from Emily Cline in the role of Bettina.

There is a corking soundtrack which drives the narrative forward, interspersed with incidental music from Tretbar's own fretboard which evokes Neil Young's score for Jarmusch's "Dead Man".

This isn't meant to be a hagiography, but I must confess, I'm a fan.
