Learn more- Margaret, in clandestine consultation with a book agent about a birthday gift for her husband Jimmy, is discovered when he returns home unexpectedly. She sends the agent hurrying off and refuses to reveal his identity to her husband, who leaves the house in anger. Ethel, to whom he tells his troubles, later sees Margaret get into a taxicab with her brother, who is spending an hour or two with her between trains. Notified of this, Jimmy, who does not know the brother, follows the pair to a café and later sees Gene kiss Margaret goodbye. In the meantime, bold burglar Basement Ben burgles Jimmy and Margaret's bungalow and hides in a closet with the swag when Gene decides to pay a final visit to his sister's home. As Gene sits awaiting his sister's return a bill collector calls, and also decides to wait. When the furious Jimmy is seen coming up the walk flourishing a gun, the two take refuge in the same closet that holds the burglar, and all crouch in fear and trembling while Jimmy rages outside. His jealous suspicions are confirmed when he finds on the library table a bouquet of flowers bearing a loving message from the giver, but left at Jimmy's house by mistake. While he is out of the room, Margaret and the book agent arrive to make a final decision on the gift for Jimmy, and when Margaret hears her husband approaching she hastily shoves the agent into the closet, which is already full to overflowing. Jealous Jimmy shoots through the closet door when he finds the book agent's hat on the library table, and the four trembling ones file into the room. After explanations are made, Basement Ben quietly sneaks out with his loaded suitcase, only to run into the arms of a police officer.
