- How many times have you seen classic films like Hoosiers, Rudy or The Rookie that tell the story of the underdog who overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds to become that one-in-a-million hero? Im guessing many. Have you ever wondered what happens to the ones that dont beat the odds? The 999,999 others that go from hero to zero? Who tells their story??? Eden Court does!
Eden Court tells the humorous and heartwarming tale of a former high school baseball all-star named Shroeder Duncan (Thomas Lennon) the other 999,999. On the eve of his 30th birthday, Shroeder finds himself living in a trailer park and working as an assistant groundskeeper at a minor league ballpark - not exactly the life he had imagined. Desperate to recapture his American Dream, Shroeder concocts a hair-brain plan to run off, leave everything behind, and move to Australia. The only problem is that its his birthday, and his adoring wife (Kimberly Williams-Paisley), family and friends (Stephnie Weir, Christian Finnegan, Ambre Lake) won't let him leave home without a fight.
Eden Court is based on the off-Broadway play written by Murphy Guyer, and originally produced for the stage in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and other cities. Previous incarnations garnered strong and favorable acclaim featuring the likes of John Goodman, Holly Hunter, Penny Marshall, and Ellen Barkin. Ms. Marshall had optioned the screenplay for a number of years after her theatrical run.
