Howdah You Like The Elephant?
boblipton23 February 2024
Jimmy Aubrey's uncle tells him he's going on a cruise, so he's sending some big stuff over. He and his wife think it's an automobile or two, but it turns out to be five seals and a baby elephant. Landlord Billy Engle soon become suspicious.

Only about five minutes of this two-reel Christie comedy was available for me to look at, but it made me think of how the Christies sneered at slapstick as low comedy, and stuck to situation comedy until 1918, when they embraced it rather violently. For a decade they produced some decent slapstick efforts, relying on a stock company that played types rather than have anyone break out into starring roles. This one is an example of that: the seals do about what you'd expect them to do, which is amusing, and I always like to look at elephants.
