Wells in context
lhsjsp16 April 2006
This documentary accompanying perhaps the greatest film version of H. G. Wells's work, The War of the Worlds (1953), attempts to contextualise the novel in the greater Wells canon and within his literary and political activities. I must declare an interest - I was one of the three interviewees - but I think a fine job was done of the documentary. My only criticism is that it might have been longer, with a few more contributors. Wells's career was so diverse and covered such a long period of time, that a one-hour production with more commentators would have done him and his work greater justice. Nonetheless, I am proud to have been involved with this project.
