Filmed during the one of the coldest October's on record, but the actors had to dress as if it were in late August. The crew were dressed in heavy winter gear. Between takes the cast were wrapped in sleeping bags to stay warm.
Snow storms constantly threatened the production, but always arrived at the location just after the production wrapped for the day, sometimes within minutes.
During the filming of church exterior in Fort MacLeod three tornadoes formed in the sky above the steeple. They did not touch the ground.
Filming of the two minute scene in front of Mackenzie House in Fort MacLeod took more than five days to shoot because of delays caused by the strange winds that caused the camera batteries to die after only one or two takes were shot.
Average scene without dialogue is 6.5 minutes.
