Why not for your own sake?

This is the shortest of the three documentaries on the 2-Disc Special Edition of 1979's The Amityville Horror(and with the other two being episodes of History's Mysteries, this is the only of them that doesn't have awkward and silly reenactment footage). It consists of interviews, clips of the film(note that it spoils it) and stills. This is basically just the two stars reminiscing separately from one another. At first, they give the studio-pre-approved speech and customary love-fest, and it's pretty bland and only fun if you believe in the superstitious myth that the book and movie were based upon. Gradually they admit that they don't think it truly happened, and do talk a little about the doubt. Then, after Brolin shows that he's man enough to admit that the "coming apart" bit was too much, they go into the sort of clash there was between them when they first met(because of different acting styles, for example... and the "quit nagging me" line is edited in for ironic effect). All in all, it's fine. They just don't go into that much interesting stuff, nor are there cute anecdotes or deep insight into anything about the flick(not that I blame them). I recommend this to those who are curious and have 21 minutes to burn. 6/10

For God's Sake, Get Out! (2005)

*** (out of 4)

Good, twenty-one minute featurette has interviews with actors James Brolin and Margot Kidder who discuss the film THE AMITYVILLE HORROR. The two are interviewed separately and in an annoying fashion we get one commenting, then the other and back and forth throughout the entire thing. Both start off talking about what got them interesting in the business and then from here comes talk about how they got involved in this picture. From there they discuss a wide range of topics including whether or not they believe what was said in the book, visiting the actual house and of course various parts of the production. Both are quite fun to listen to as they both have plenty of stories to share and both seem to not be embarrassed by the film. Fans of THE AMITYVILLE HORROR are certainly going to enjoy this featurette as we do get a few new stories about the making of the film.
