When it comes to cinema, the folks who are strictly screenwriters don’t typically receive top-billing recognition, at least not among garden-variety moviegoers. The household names tend to be actors and directors, in that order. For years, Aaron Sorkin has been one of the exceptions that prove the rule. He has penned incredible television, from “The West Wing” to “The Newsroom,” and he has penned incredible films, from “A Few Good Men” to “The Social Network.” Come this November, however, Sorkin will no longer be an exception to the rule because he is (finally!) making his directorial debut with Stx Entertainment’s “Molly’s Game.”

While the TV community mourns the passing of Robert Hegyes, who played Juan Epstein on the 1970s sitcom "Welcome Back, Kotter," we thought it might be interesting to see what all the other Sweathogs as well as Mr. Kotter are up to these days. Here's an update:
John Travolta (Vinnie Barbarino) - After some lean years in the 1980s, Travolta's career rocketed back following his role as Vincent Vega in the 1994 film "Pulp Fiction," and he hasn't looked back since. Subsequent films included "Face/Off," "Get Shorty" and "Wild Hogs." He's very much an A-lister.
Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs (Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington) - Known for his over enunciation "Hey, Mister Kot-taire," Hilton-Jacobs' character was the star on Buchanan High's basketball team. Since the series left the air in 1979, he's had a slew of guest starring roles in TV series from "Hill Street Blues" to "Roseanne" to "Chuck." His longest stint was on the show "Alien Nation.

The Sweathogs will be back in primetime next month. Some of them, anyway.
TV Land will honor the 1970s sitcom "Welcome Back, Kotter" at this year's TV Land Awards, and its most famous cast member, John Travolta, will be on hand to accept the 35th Anniversary Award. He'll be joined by co-stars Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs (Freddie), Ron Palillo (Horshack) and Marcia Strassman (Julie Kotter).
Missing from the cast -- at least for now -- are series star and co-creator Gabe Kaplan, and Robert Hegyes, who played Juan Epstein. TV Land does say that "more cast members" will be announced later.
Kaplan, incidentally, has carved out a nice post-comedy career as a poker player. He's won more than $1 million over the years at various poker events, and until recently he was the host of "High Stakes Poker" on Gsn.
The TV Land Awards are scheduled to tape on April 10 in New York...

Well it’s about time. Mind you, not that I’m crazy excited about the Sci Fi Channel’s new show Warehouse 13, but that Summer has sucked so far, and there hasn’t been anything decent or watchable on TV for the last month and change. My DVR hasn’t been busy at all, except for the occasional episodes of High Stakes Poker. Now, at least, I’ll have something for it to actually record — the two-hour premiere episode of Warehouse 13, which will be the first new show on the first official day for The Sci Fi Channel, now officially changed to the SyFy Channel as of today, Tuesday, July 7th, 2009. Hooray? Anyways, new promos from the show below. Warehouse 13 stars Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly, Saul Rubinek, Genelle Williams, Allison Scagliotti, and Cch Pounder. It’s produced by Farscape mastermind Rockne S. O’Bannon, and word is...
