Adventure in the Toy department.
Sleepin_Dragon1 December 2019
Mr Grace thinks it's a good idea to give the sales staff a change of scenery, so the staff of the ladies and gentlemen department head for the toy department.

This is a very funny episode, it's so wonderfully childish and silly, but it works. The environment brings out the inner child in all of the team, particularly Mr Grainger.

They made great use of the toys, Funtime Freddy is hilarious, I love the way the staff all want to get in on one another's sections, and how protective they all are. Favourite scene has to be Captain Peacock in his head gear.

It's a very funny episode. 9/10

Mind of a toy

If you had any doubt that the 1970s were a halcyon time for UK sitcoms, A Change Is As Good As A Rest will settle the matter for you once and for all. There is no plot, nothing happens and its still very funny. Such is the confidence in the programme at this point that no attempt is made to actually make the toy department set look like a toy department. It's Lydon's cheap essential scenery to a tee, but actually fits the puerile fun perfectly. Are You Being Served was never very self-conscious: if we get a laugh the first time, fine, if not, dumb it down until we do. Life with never be this simple again.

A Change Is as Good as a Rest

This is one of those 'AYBS?' episodes that spends so long setting up its premise (the staff swap to the toy department) that by the time it has been there's not much time for anything else.

It has its moments, but isn't one of my favourite episodes.
