When Arrested Development was first picked up by FOX, it was for only 13 episodes, so this episode was largely intended only to set up the next episode, Beef Consomme (2004), which continues the story lines involving Marta (Patricia Velasquez), George Michael (Michael Cera) searching for Maeby (Alia Shawkat)'s parentage, and Lindsay (Portia de Rossi)'s marital difficulties with Tobias (David Cross), and was designed to possibly serve as the series finale.
During Tobias (David Cross) and Lindsay (Portia de Rossi)'s anniversary party/Lucille (Jessica Walter)'s Valentine's Day party, Lupe (B.W. Gonzalez) is wearing a "Gobble Gobble" sweatshirt (which would be for Thanksgiving Day). She was also previously seen wearing a Halloween sweatshirt at Christmas time.
This episode's title is a reference to the term "Martyr Complex."
