As Tobias (David Cross) is explaining to Michael (Jason Bateman) his ambition to join the Blue Man Group, he tosses a peanut and fails to catch it in his mouth. This displays Tobias' ineptitude at a simple task used frequently in the performances of the Blue Man Group.

The part where Lucille (Jessica Walter) and Buster (Tony Hale) are walking on the street and get confronted by a documentary film-maker group is a reference to Michael Moore and his famous documentaries.
