She is NOT as sweet as she appears to be on the surface!

Cathy Cooper (Lee Purcell) is a sweet young lady who, beneath the surface isnt exactly sweet! When the show begins, her partner in crime has stolen a valuable necklace from a family that Cathy's ingratiated herself into. But she and her partner have a falling out and she kills him. In fact, she does that a couple times during the show and even attempts another murder...all to hide that she has interest in fleecing this family out of every dime she can get....all the while acting like a complete innocent.

I liked seeing an evil, conniving woman as a change of pace. Purcell was very good as this god-awful sociopath...and the show is well worth seeing due to the writing and her characterization.

HELP ME FIRST, THEN I'LL KILL YOU!
tcchelsey8 January 2024
Another gem written by Robert W. Lenski, who had an eye for detail and lots of imagination. Guest star Lee Purcell actually appears in a far different role. Instead of a victim of circumstances, she is armed and dangerous, playing Kathy Cooper, a very sly and deadly jewel thief.

The neat switch here is that this is an inside job, connected to a very wealthy family. The thing that always amazed me about stories similar to this, the more wealth a family accrued, the more greedy the culprits were. And as you will see!

Dabney Coleman, always a welcome addition to any mystery, plays George and popular character actor Eddie Firestone plays Andy. Firestone had to have held a record for tv appearances, he was everywhere in both comedies and dramas. Look for Buddy Ebsen's pretty daughter, Bonnie, who makes another brief appearance on the show, playing Maxie.

By the way.... the Beverly Hills mansion where this is partly filmed at (North Angelo Drive) sold for 65 million dollars in 2021! Director Walter Grauman surprisingly did make a mistake here, according to notes. When Kathy shoots and kills her equally diabolical partner, he drops the glasses he's holding, but when he falls to the floor the drinks are still in his hands!

Watch this for some dynamic acting on the part of Lee Purcell. SEASON 4 EPISODE 12 remastered CBS dvd box set.
