A pretty sad episode
mitchrmp25 December 2012
At first, the episode looks okay. An army detail come in and declare Court Martial because a group of outlaws are riding that way. However, it becomes apparent that this is anything but normal! The men are actually deserters and come to various towns to plunder. Unfortunately, the men get caught by Clay. The results are disastrous! Nora loses someone very precious to her and before all is said and done, the entire town is like a ghost town.

Dick Sargent is in this episode. He is best known (at least to me) as the second Darren in Bewitched. At the end of this episode, we view kisses - finally after a whole season of waiting...

Many died in this episode. I can't put a number. Unfortunately, there were several good men that would be buried...

The Freebooters

Martial law comes to town. An army posse arrives warning Marshall Gib Scott that there is intelligence that army deserters are on their way.

The town is in lockdown. It is Tim Potter who notices something amiss with one of the horses of the soldiers.

Clay Culhane finds himself outgunned and outnumbered. The posse are in fact deserters. They come into town and loot it.

Now the menfolk of the town including the Marshall are locked up in jail. Only Nora's crippled father is allowed in to stay in his room but he's up for a gunfight.

There is a clever premise here. Shades of Die Hard with Clay having to finish off the deserters by stealth. Dick Sargent plays one of the deserters.
