Watching this show again for the first time in 35 years, I had forgotten what a delight it was. Bob Newhart, who is one of the best of the straight men, plays Bob Hartley, a Chicago psychologist. This first episode gives us a peek at all the regulars. Suzanne Pleshett is his long suffering wife, Emily. Jack Riley is the intensely trouble patient with the harsh tongue, Marcia Wallace is Carol, the receptionist, and Howard Borden lives across the hall, bringing with him his vacuous self. He is a navigator for a big airline. Funny scene when he gets lost trying to find Bob's office. There's also Jerry, the dentist. He's hard to warm to. I remember not caring much for him at times. Anyway, this one is about a fear-of-flying group who are about to travel to New York on a plane, to face their fears. Emily admits that she has a fear of flying and Bob intimidates her into joining the group on the plane. There are some pretty choice moments.
