Mariette Hartley was supposed to be a regular on the series, this being the premiere of the character, Marylin Dietz - Emily's friend who had just moved into their apartment building. However, rumor has it she got the cold shoulder from another cast members during the week she worked on the show. The other actor apparently said, "If she gets hired, I'm quitting."
The title refers to the 1937 song "Have You Met Miss Jones?" written by Richard Rodgers and the lyrics by Lorenz Hart for their musical "I'd Rather Be Right" starring George M. Cohan.
David Fresco plays a character who looks very old and ragged, especially for his age (a punchline here basically)... Later in his career he'd play characters known for their old age and elderly looks, like in Liar Liar as a lawyer that Jim Carrey simply refers to as (during the conference room roast scene) "He's old!"
