This was the first episode produced, but the 9th to be broadcast. The show was substantially reworked after this episode -the most obvious points of discontinuity are; (1) the decor and furnishings of Dr. Hartley's office and home are not those used in other 1st season episodes, (2) Jerry was adopted immediately with no mention of having been in an orphanage, (3) Arthur Hoover never makes another appearance, and his wife, (4) Margaret Hoover, who's in advanced pregnancy, in this episode, is not pregnant in any of the other 6 episodes she appears in, and as for children and the Hartley's (5) the whole theme, of Bob and Emily wanting children is dropped - the Hartley's are very happy to be wihout children of their own (6) Emily's character was made more independent, with a stronger voice of her own (7) Bob having anything to do with the building's governing board (he's head of the condominium, here) is dropped. (8) The show switched from focusing on Bob and Emily, interacting with other tenants of the building, and instead focused more on the Hartley's and their small group of co-workers, friends, and Bob's patients.
